Sending out a message that Pakistan is effectively ungovernable?

Cricket tours by Sri Lanka to Pakistan being a source of endless rapt fascination to the American people and government

Obama in Test uniform = photo op of the century

Non-Homosexual Male Fan Of Kate Bush (King Boy Pato), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 12:13 (seventeen years ago)

Obama's just released the following statement:

"Once I threw a wobbly for 5/0/i/2220 for after my first chugger caused a Pollyanna; imagine my face when the three tits went up on scoreboard! Lawks, what a shocker!"

Queueing For Latchstrings (Tom D.), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 12:20 (seventeen years ago)

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:20 (seventeen years ago)

Long way to go for the Aussies, Dubai a better bet

Queueing For Latchstrings (Tom D.), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:22 (seventeen years ago)

er, Tom, they'll be here already. It'll be like some kind of all-summer Ashes Of Pakistani Cricket spectacular!

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:22 (seventeen years ago)

Oh right, I see! Too good an idea for the cricket authorities to think of it.

Pretty shitty for the Pakistani folk that wont be able to watch their team now thanks to these extremist fuckwits

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

I doubt Pakistan will be able to go to Sri Lanka or India incase of revenge attacks either.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

It's just not cricket etc etc

Not that there was anyone at the Karachi Test by the looks of things. But yes, Pakistani international cricket is fucked. Dubai is no sort of place to be playing cricket.

Abbe Black Tentacle (GamalielRatsey), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

HYSers same all over the world:

why people dont think of indian hands in it? they are the one's behind all this.it never happened before, why after bombay attacks?. people in Pakistan love cricket, even the extremists love cricket as well.

Pakistani High Commissioner on Sky right now is the very definition of complacency - 'Inshallah we shall nab the culprits', 'people continue to visit Pakistan, only today I had many emails from investors', etc etc

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

E-mails from Nigerian investors, I'll bet.

Non-Homosexual Male Fan Of Kate Bush (King Boy Pato), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

What's that name all about? Don't tell me Kate's a gay icon now

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 21:19 (seventeen years ago)

NZ have pulled their tour for later in the year. It's going to be a long long long time til Pakistan gets test cricket in Pakistan again.

I think England will def go with Shah @ 3. KP wont move up. So Bopara will be left out and Prior at 6. Sidebottom will be left out definitely and I think Harmison might be too depending on the pitch. They will try the new fast bowler and hope for the best tactic.
so
Strauss
Cook
Shah
Pietersen
Collingwood
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Khan
Monty? Or Harmison? <--- will depend on pitch.

denmark?

Prince of Persia (Ed), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:31 (seventeen years ago)

Amjad Khan is in the team, and is apparently Danish-born.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:37 (seventeen years ago)

Monty's a bit of a surprise.

Abbe Black Tentacle (GamalielRatsey), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:42 (seventeen years ago)

But 2 spinners might be a good pick.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:44 (seventeen years ago)

I'd have gone with Rashid instead of Monty, otherwise it's the right team IMO

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:46 (seventeen years ago)

It might, but then it sort of looks like they are playing the last couple of pitches, rather than this one, which, as everyone has been saying, is a result pitch. Furthermore, apparently spin hasn't really taken in recent history. Even Strauss at the toss was saying, 'It may deteriorate' which seemed more hope than expectation.

At least he won the toss though.

Abbe Black Tentacle (GamalielRatsey), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:46 (seventeen years ago)

I predict...

I suppose the thinking is that Collingwood can bowl some extra seam if necessary.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:49 (seventeen years ago)

^^ That's an amazing stat, especially for one who was considered for so long a complete rabbit. I only heard it a few weeks ago.

Abbe Black Tentacle (GamalielRatsey), Friday, 6 March 2009 13:50 (seventeen years ago)

west indies with an extra batsman and defensive field and a batters paradise. Think they're playing for a draw? LJ would go crazy if england did that.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe there's a west indian lj doing the same right now.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

How many wickets will england throwaway trying to score quickly to try win the match?

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

WI's selection makes perfect sense, right up until the moment they lose.

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

like thats gonna happen on this pitch. only way wickets will be lost will be by trying to force the score along and playing silly shots

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

Trinidad traditionally does a bit, but it's possible to underestimate quite how flat a pitch can be if the groundsman so desires.

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

with 5 bowlers and prior @ 6, you cant afford any failures from the batsmen.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

Plus monty needs to have bowled overs. He was undercooked in the 1st test after the sri lankan games fell through. So nothing has changed. All this is going to do is give LJ more anti-monty ammo.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 March 2009 14:37 (seventeen years ago)
