Wait, is this refund for the first or second inherited recession?
― Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:09 (eighteen years ago)
I sell indulgences. So to speak.
― kenan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:09 (eighteen years ago)
OK, hookers and blow--that's an indulgence, right?
absolutionly
― wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:11 (eighteen years ago)
kenan you use your $600 as a bribe for a libble invite
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:12 (eighteen years ago)
I pooh-pooh your childish libble invite. I have discovered stmusic.
― kenan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:26 (eighteen years ago)
(No, actually, I'd still kinda like a libble invite, or whatever else you got.)
― kenan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:27 (eighteen years ago)
i actually use stmusic. i'm glad to see that its library is gradually growing. i got an invite from a friend (lol panicking oink refugees) right after oink went under and it's gotten better recently.
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:32 (eighteen years ago)
jhoshea extols the virtues of what.cd but i haven't been able to wrangle an invite
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

― John Justen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 04:36 (eighteen years ago)
i was lazy zinging kenan for earnestly filling out the form on the libble invite thread

― kenan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 05:50 (eighteen years ago)
Wait, is this US money? Did Bush give you this? Is it STAINED WITH BLOOD??
― Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 14 February 2008 05:54 (eighteen years ago)
no, it's not US money, it's dollars that we're borrowing from China.
― kingfish, Thursday, 14 February 2008 06:11 (eighteen years ago)
honestly with the way the dollar looks right now you're honestly better off spending this now and not saving since no investment you're likely to be able to make is going to match the $$ equivalent next april 15
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 08:00 (eighteen years ago)
in fact that $600 is already depreciating at a terrifying rate and nobody even has their grubby paws on it yet. I can't wait to see what the sales flyers look like two sundays from now
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 08:02 (eighteen years ago)
keytar, cheesesteak, drugs.
― chaki, Thursday, 14 February 2008 08:03 (eighteen years ago)

Or a new video card so's I can play finally play "Bioshock" and "Witcher".
― kingfish, Thursday, 14 February 2008 08:07 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, dealers should be getting very excited about this. hundreds of suddenly liquid customers popping out of the woodwork all at once demanding your product! basic microeconomics and the government working together for YOU
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 08:09 (eighteen years ago)
anybody who uses this to pay down debts is a terrorist btw

― gr8080, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:08 (eighteen years ago)
i'm gonna spend it in canada (thereby stimulating the economy north of the border instead of our), smuggle the stuff back into the states (avoiding paying duty on it, natch), then sell said items at a reasonable markup (and not charging sales tax or reporting the income).
THANKS FOR THE HANDOUT GWB!!!
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:11 (eighteen years ago)
damn chi kev you have got it all planned out.
― gr8080, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)
Can someone explain to non-American why you're all getting 600 dollars?
― Tuomas, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:21 (eighteen years ago)
because our government loves us very much and wants us to be happy
― dan m, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:23 (eighteen years ago)
x-post
To make up for the fact that we are on our way to becoming a second-world country (at least).
Also I'm not sure what I'll spend mine on. Perhaps a nice pair of shoes or laser hair removal. Or a trunk full of subwoofers.
― Bonita Applebum, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:25 (eighteen years ago)
So the American government is giving everyone 600 $? In cash?
― Tuomas, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:26 (eighteen years ago)
What's the story behind it?
Economy's in the toilet. Bush Administration figures if they give everyone $600, we'll all run out and spend it right away, thereby stimulating the economy.
― jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:27 (eighteen years ago)
this thread is google result #2 for "six hundred dollars"
― dan m, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

truthfully i'm probably just gonna spend it on burritos from picante.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:32 (eighteen years ago)
talk about an investment that'll get you returns
― n/a, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:32 (eighteen years ago)
WHOOO AH!
tuomas, it is part of a very stupid plan to further delay a long-foreshadowed recession, despite the fact that said recession has already begun and will not blink twice in the face of a bunch of people spending $600 that we would normally have just paid to government in the form of income tax a year from now (and probably still will anyway).
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:33 (eighteen years ago)
part of a very, very stupid plan
Fixed.
― contenderizer, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:35 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, doesn't this just mean smaller returns next year?
― Jordan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:35 (eighteen years ago)
i will be receiving the balance of my "two thousand dollar check" on wednesday march 17

― Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Monday, 15 March 2021 13:52 (five years ago)
canst thou claim at least the $600 as a refundable tax credit?
