nvm had a brainfart
― my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Monday, 13 January 2014 02:29 (twelve years ago)
NBC's ratings are comparable to those of middling basic cable networks, so the confusion is understandable.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 13 January 2014 02:41 (twelve years ago)
lol
idk why my brain saw "basic cable" and decided it meant "network"
BUT hannibal is actually based on the original books, not the movies, so i can still be right about something
― my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Monday, 13 January 2014 02:50 (twelve years ago)
FWIW this was funny enough without getting what it was a parody of. In light of the ending it was possibly less about a parody for the sake of a parody as it was about creating the right atmosphere for the Pierce bombshell.
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 January 2014 13:30 (twelve years ago)
tbh i thought the pierce bombshell was so pointless it was 99% there for sake of the parody
― my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 00:18 (twelve years ago)
also didn't we see pierce's ghost two episodes ago, that confuses me some
― Clay, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 00:24 (twelve years ago)
that was a hologram, keep up
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 00:25 (twelve years ago)
yeah but it's a decent point, show was already treating him like he was dead
― my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 00:30 (twelve years ago)
yeah, but didn't they also suggest he wasn't allowed on the premises of the college for some reason, thus the hologram?
― the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 07:30 (twelve years ago)
supposedly this is gonna play out as a storyline, so we'll see how it goes. i'm surprised they're even bothering, honestly
― Nhex, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 07:31 (twelve years ago)
Am finally caught up. This show is awesome again. The lengths they went to light and shoot this ep and desaturate it all were astounding.
Did anyone notice the Rorschach on Prof John Oliver's wall?
― Who is DANKEY KANG? (kingfish), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 08:37 (twelve years ago)
I dunno, I think there's some fun to be had with Pierce's funeral.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 09:47 (twelve years ago)
this show is hella dark now, between everyones post-college failings, breaking bad guys phone conversation, pierces death and the inevitable funeral.
its also really good again.
i love how abed didnt take the bait.
― a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 12:44 (twelve years ago)
Also, is it just me or is their cafeteria art that looks exactly like one of Dan Harmon's Story Circles? It's the segmented circle with little colored geometric shapes
― Who is DANKEY KANG? (kingfish), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:56 (twelve years ago)
a hoy hoy? feels like i haven't seen you in a while!
― Nhex, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:06 (twelve years ago)
well, yeah, this is the darkest timeline.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:41 (twelve years ago)
fuck that "darkest timeline" bullshit
― SHAUN (DJP), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:42 (twelve years ago)
the chaos theory episode was amusing but every subsequent "darkest timeline" joke has been worse than every Inspector Spacetime joke put together
― SHAUN (DJP), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:43 (twelve years ago)
i'm p sure that's entirely where this season is set though, it's been made pretty obvious.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:49 (twelve years ago)
i mean, not saying you are wrong to be tired of the whole thing, but this seems like a pretty intentional thing Harmon is running with for season 5.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:50 (twelve years ago)
Jeff has 2 arms though?
― some dude, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:51 (twelve years ago)
i don't think we'll be seeing goatee Abed anytime soon. or I hope not. i was ok with the concept but it seemed pretty done.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:55 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, I mean there are some pretty major inconsistencies, but the way the whole show has been literally darker since the new seaon started. I don't know the correct techincal term here, but it's rendered significantly darker than it has been in the past and its pretty drastic compared to every other sitcom now. I just figured it was something Harmon was running with, since the depressing outcomes have just been hammered in over and over.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:56 (twelve years ago)
i agree, the change in visual tone is definitely noticeable. i don't know if they're going to get much darker than "Repilot", it feels like the angst in that episode got quickly handwaved away
― Nhex, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 19:58 (twelve years ago)
I mean, who knows, I hate to overthink a show like this (lol, cue Whiney) esp when they're clearly fine with handwaving away entire seasons (the gas leak year!), but the change in visual tone has had me thinking "darkest timeline" for better or worse. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope this doesn't end up there again, it just seems like he's really hammering on the whole "dark" thing.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 20:01 (twelve years ago)
It's a good move, IMO; I don't think they're going for the kitsch factor this time, though (like Inspector Spacetime etc.), it feels like a genuine reassessment and moving the show back to the darker corners it once had, like Abed's mental/social breakdowns, Shirley's alcoholism, etc. and this could be a great way to get back to regaining the emotional core this show has somewhat lost for the past few years. But you're right, this show really shouldn't as over-analyzed as it has been, both in this thread and on the internet in general.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 20:14 (twelve years ago)
I mean, ASS CRACK BRITTA. This is the show we're talking about here. :)
I liked Britta's deadly serious attempt at profiling

hey! yeah 2013 was a tough year and it meant internet consumption died for me, p much. im still kicking around a little bit though.
― a hoy hoy, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 11:53 (twelve years ago)
Best thing about this season = no darkest timeline or Inspector Spacetime references shoehorned into every episode. The writers just got incredibly lazy when it came to writing Abed.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 12:27 (twelve years ago)
you told me a hawk stole them!

Goggins at the end was hilarious.

it was more a spiritual sequel to the lost pen episode from season two, collaborative calligraphy (this was collaborative polygraphy) xp
― Clay, Friday, 17 January 2014 18:59 (twelve years ago)
Loved this one, pretty much the whole thing was perfectly pitched. And a great way to work loads of Pierce humour in there without even having Chevy anywhere near the set.
There's still at least one more episode of Troy right?
― Matt DC, Saturday, 18 January 2014 13:41 (twelve years ago)
Yep, next one's supposed to be the last one with Glover. Harmon was talking about it on his podcast, said it's a real tearjerker.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 18 January 2014 16:00 (twelve years ago)
great ep

feel like there've been at least four eps exactly like this but the sperm cylinders was great

yeah every "FEELINGS! YELLING!" scene on this show is the same and euchhhhhh 'Childish Tycoon' but funny episode anyway, Goggins killed it

Whoa, trashy post-apoc 80s Britta is hawwwwt

yup :(
― Nhex, Friday, 24 January 2014 07:02 (twelve years ago)
though hot Britta :)
sometimes i think she kinda got unfairly shafted on this show with Annie being the phenom
It was clear in the beginning that Jeff/Britta was supposed the pair the rest of the Greendale world revolved around, or at least that's what NBC had planned for, but it quickly became a brilliant ensemble. In that sense, Britta got shafted, but I think she still plays an important part.
