I'm not talking about movies on the internet.

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:29 (twenty years ago)

Dear Fashion Advisors (Hi Laurel!),

Am I too old for this wallet? I am 33.

Thank you,
Jenny

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm not talking about movies on the internet.

You've certainly turned over a new leaf.

Am I too old for this wallet? I am 33.

As Beefheart says, as long as you can boogie, you ain't too old.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:31 (twenty years ago)

I have to be careful. My tendency is to dress like a stoned undergrad or a kindergarten teacher on acid (I did not make up that last description - this was what a friend of mine once said when asked to describe my "look"). I was wearing a suit on Tuesday and a school colleague said, "Wow! I've never seen you look so grown up! You look like you should be my boss!"

So I fired the little bitch.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:33 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:36 (twenty years ago)

or a kindergarten teacher on acid

and this differs from an ordinary kindergarten teacher how?

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:37 (twenty years ago)

KG teachers on acid wear blue dresses, red tights, and gold sneakers (the outfit that prompted the comment). Regular KG teachers wear holidy-themed applique sweatshirts and matching white Keds.

Why am I fucking around on the internet instead of reading about the rule against perpetuities???

OH YEAH BECAUSE IT'S BORING.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:40 (twenty years ago)

get the wallet.
thank you for smoking was pretty good.

"cigarettes are cool, they're addictive, and they're readily available. they practically do the job for us."

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 28 April 2006 01:12 (twenty years ago)

thank you, middle-aged gay gentleman, for buying my friends and i drinks ALL NIGHT at Buona Terra.

Fun Fact: dude was shocked SHOCKED! that we knew, and liked, the Rolling Stones.

gbx (skowly), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Why am I here? I need to pack for tomorrow. But I stopped by the tea shop and said hi to K., then drove her home because they closed early.

GET READY FRANCOPHONES.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:07 (twenty years ago)

Evan, did you put out?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:07 (twenty years ago)

Kenan: plz to send me more Booker T. by the end of the night?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:08 (twenty years ago)

The thing about McNamara is that he also is the one who gets the credit for mandatory seatbelts in cars. He's going to have a long interview a the pearly gates.

How was your mock trial, J.? I wish that Kenan and I could have been the Menendez brothers for you.

then drove her home

Eazy (Eazy), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:11 (twenty years ago)

You can totally pull that off, Jenny. I thought you were going to post something more like this:

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:11 (twenty years ago)

I've had a helluva night. The ribs turned out great, though, and I'm getting up for the airport in six hours (which ain't too bad!).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:30 (twenty years ago)

I just made a bad decision, but I'm going to stick to it. My calendar fell off the wall and a quick glance did not reveal the location of the thumbtack that held it, but I choose to wait to find it till later. Een if it's the hard way.

I just reclaimed my auxilary bike from the Loop mere moments before it returned to the earth. It's been sitting in front of the main branch of the library since October. It's on the rusty side.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah way, dude! Get the wallet! I mean, since you asked. ;)

I'm only one state away, Chicago! Also, my dad has an extra bike so I'm going to spin through some of my old haunts tomorrow. I am weirdly totally excited to re-experience country riding after learning to brave Flatbush Ave etc.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:17 (twenty years ago)

What part of MI are you in? In the part where sentences don't end in prepositions?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:27 (twenty years ago)

Small-town West Michigan, Jesse. North of Muskegon and right on the big lake.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:29 (twenty years ago)

I lived in between Charlevoix and East Jordan (the place where they make the manhole covers for many cities streets including Chicago and New Orleans--look down and you'll see "EJIW"or "East Jordan Iron Works." The foundry really stank up our town when I was in high school).

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:33 (twenty years ago)

Note: there was no town called West Jordan, nor Jordan.

Jordan, while you're in New Orleans, look for the East Jordan manholes.

As for me, I'll keep my eye on Jordan's manhole.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:34 (twenty years ago)

Hi! I just am dropping in to say hi. Since I no longer have time to devote to this thread, alas. Oh well. Hi! IM me sometime, kthxbye!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 28 April 2006 03:56 (twenty years ago)

Hey Chris. How's school? Are you feeling smart?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Wow. It's been Jesse Revives Threads night on ILX.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 05:38 (twenty years ago)

I am not feeling smart, but I do feel like I'm thinking a lot. Also I feel sick, but I think that's for entirely other reasons.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 28 April 2006 05:57 (twenty years ago)

You know it's time to go to bed when you start buying Toto songs from iTunes. Now I have Rosanna, Africa and Hold the Line.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 07:31 (twenty years ago)

um... buying? You paid for these things? Next time, if you're squeamish, ask me, and I will download them for free like it should be done and ysi them to you.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 09:23 (twenty years ago)

Let him buy if he wants to buy.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 April 2006 10:20 (twenty years ago)

i can think of no good reason why i should be awake right now.

gbx (skowly), Friday, 28 April 2006 10:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm about to walk out the door to get on a bus and then a train and then a plane.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 April 2006 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Have fun in Montreal, jaymc!\

Okay, you all have convinced me. I'm getting the wallet. As soon as they send me a replacement MF's card, since the whole reason I need a new wallet is that someone stole my old one. With my MF card in it.

Jerks.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 11:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm off work today! (And Monday as well.) A few comments to sustain you until my inevitable return...

Summer resolution: See more movies!
This sounds like a winter resolution to me, sister. ALL NEW Summer resolution: see more daylight AND nightlife, read zero law textbooks. Also lunch with La Lechera more frequently.

In the meantime, the rest of you ought to think about how you're celebrating May Day. Like pagans or Communists? OR BOTH? I'll be planting my garden, maybe marching for immigration reform if I have time to go downtown and then going to my final class meeting of the semester, which is my penultimate class EVAR. I will not be going to work.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:15 (twenty years ago)

the only thing i can think of MF standing for is motha fucking, since i am very sleepy. and somehow i don't think that describes the card in jenny's wallet.

good morning.

woohoo penultimate class! and belated congrats on the job, amanda.

what have you gotten for your garden?

Juulia (julesbdules), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, Pockets is closed on Monday? Seriously though, how did I not know about the immigrant strike until I got that e-mail?

Also, happy Friday.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:34 (twenty years ago)

i'm guessing mf= marshall fields.

i wanna go to the commedians of comedy at lsa tonight.

some dude on the bus spilled his coffee all over my pants this morning. i'm way beyond pissed.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:37 (twenty years ago)

That sucks otto, I don't even know what I would do in that situation.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Punch someone. Anyone.

Sarah/Nick: email me to get my phone number so I can come to HPK. I'll bring my roommate. It'll be a party.

regular roundups (Dave M), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:52 (twenty years ago)

not much you can do. i'm wearing dark khaki pants so from the time i alighted the bus and during my ensuing train and bus rides, it looked like i'd peed myself. this weekend is not starting on the right foot.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 28 April 2006 12:53 (twenty years ago)

When someone does you wrong on the CTA just announce very loudly and gravely, "Oh my God. He's got a gun."

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeh-- I rode a bus last night that was brand new. It smelled like a new car, but so much so that it gave me a little headache. It was a stunning and pleasant.

It had new type of rear exit doors that had no handles, but instead had electric eye sensors.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

I think... ahem... I think I'm going to get an iPod today. Which model should I get? Tell me true. Is four gigs enough? Am I going to really wish I got 30? And do I get black or white? Which shows scratches less?

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

I can't speak for you, but the first one I got was a gift and it was a 20 GB which I filled up rather quickly. Since then I've upgraded to a 60 GB video one which I love. I also switched from a white one to a black one, they are both going to get dirty really quick and scratched easily - so get a case right away to put it in. I have one of those whitish slipcases, which are nice for keeping the units clean but they don't cover the video screen. So I also picked up another carrying case with a flip up lid that protects the whole thing. Overkill probably, but as much as I spent on the thing I want to protect it. Just remember that these things get dirty easily, it's really hard to avoid that.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:32 (twenty years ago)

i bought myself a satin robe. i was getting other stuff on the site anyway and it was on sale for cheap. and maybe it can feel all decadent.

xp ooooo ipod.

Juulia (julesbdules), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:34 (twenty years ago)

30 gigs. I have the 6 gig mini and I wish I had 30. The main reason for my desire for 30 is that I have to spend time deciding which tunes make the cut. B/c it's only 6 gigs and I have 35 gigs of music, I can't set iTunes to update automatically.

They had a special here http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/ the other day. I think it was 30 gig for $250 or something. New. I don't who had it or how.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I wish they were made of leather and you could shine them.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:35 (twenty years ago)

They had a special here http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/ the other day. I think it was 30 gig for $250 or something.

That's not such a bargain. They're $299 at the Apple store. I mean, sure fifty bucks, but that's hardly "cheap" and "stingy."

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:36 (twenty years ago)

shit. i should not have posted that. i have to send a moderator request.... but that won't do any good. crap. sorry.

track-back ping

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:39 (twenty years ago)

The main reason for my desire for 30 is that I have to spend time deciding which tunes make the cut.

I'm sure you're right. I have about 60 gigs of music on my external, and if I could get half that onto an iPod, I think that would suit me well enough. I'd have to switch out songs and playlists once a month, maybe.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, they're out of stock.

Also, I only ever buy music from ShiTunes when it's ass o'clock and I want to hear a certain song. It's like playing it on the jukebox.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Friday, 28 April 2006 13:42 (twenty years ago)

La Lechera is correct. But I think there's room for all those resolutions! I mean, I'm only working! ONLY WORKING! That's like having the whole summer off.

Otto, sorry about your pants. That's the pits.

And MF = marshall field, BUT I got paid today so I think I'll just go write a check because I want a new wallet RIGHT NOW!

Also? I am in my VERY LAST CLASS of the year, right now. Two weeks and I'll be in my final year of law school.

Phew.
