we just started the first season last weekend -- i totally dig it

also I think it's the first thing I've ever enjoyed Amanda Seyfried in. I always thought she looked like a goldfish before this.

Probably the last place to which I expected a VM thread to go.

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 10 January 2014 04:26 (twelve years ago)

sorry :(

lol not sure if I was complaining...

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Friday, 10 January 2014 05:09 (twelve years ago)

The first book in an original mystery series featuring twenty-eight-year-old Veronica Mars, back in action after the events of Veronica Mars: The Movie. With the help of old friends—Logan Echolls, Mac Mackenzie, Wallace Fennel, and even Dick Casablancas—Veronica is ready to take on Neptune’s darkest cases with her trademark sass and smarts. - seems to be a name missing here

balls, Saturday, 11 January 2014 23:10 (twelve years ago)

a shame, I wanted to see if piz sparkles on the page the same way he does the screen

reddening, Sunday, 12 January 2014 00:18 (twelve years ago)

unless he's there and they thought it would be too spoilery to refer to him by his new name, Piz Mars.

reddening, Sunday, 12 January 2014 00:20 (twelve years ago)

o shit Piz is totally the criminal mastermind in the movie isn't he

Simon H., Sunday, 12 January 2014 00:30 (twelve years ago)

maybe he just gets killed in an unfortunate accident

j., Sunday, 12 January 2014 01:51 (twelve years ago)

one month passes...

First two minutes is basically a series recap:

still lol @ the complete and total absence of Duncan.

Roz, Sunday, 2 March 2014 19:27 (twelve years ago)

i am torn... loved the first few eps and now I'm midway through s1 and the noirish nancy drew thing, esp the narration is reaaaaaally getting on my nerves

kinda find myself waiting for it to be great again

logan looks like one of those floppy inflatable things they put out the front of tire stores

why is weevil/vm not a thing he's sooo cute

duncan can diaf he's like jared padelicki with a frontal lobotomy

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 2 March 2014 20:30 (twelve years ago)

the weevil bike gang is the single most ridiculous thing about this ridiculous (and often v good) show. a gang of soft-spoken helmet-wearing pranksters whose criminal activities are... framing each other for credit card fraud? so lame.

adam, Sunday, 2 March 2014 21:19 (twelve years ago)

they're teenagers!

j., Sunday, 2 March 2014 21:23 (twelve years ago)

i've been doing a rewatch and just finished s1. i went into it thinking "i was probably too hard on duncan the first time around" but no. he is dreadful. that scene early on where he and troy sit in a car and joke about "gettin' jiggy wit' it" and "raising the roof"? mortifying.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 2 March 2014 21:48 (twelve years ago)

the worst duncan line has to be, "you've been listening to radiohead again, haven't you? that's it, i'm putting you on a strict nelly diet!" i don't know if there's an actor who could make those words sound anywhere approaching normal, but duncan somehow manages the singular feat of making them sound even stupider.

eh mec, elle est ou ma caisse? (ytth), Monday, 3 March 2014 02:43 (twelve years ago)

he sounds like a weird out of touch uncle

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 3 March 2014 02:57 (twelve years ago)

it's endearing how dated the music references seem, jessica chastain shows up as a guest star and her first line is like "oh, sorry i haven't returned your Snow Patrol CD yet!"

speaking of dated, the girl fashions in this show are something else. i just got to the episode where steve guttenberg's daughter claims she wore this outfit to "blend in":

reddening, Monday, 3 March 2014 05:34 (twelve years ago)

my main impression of this show from the episodes i saw was that the colors were rad and the girl fashions were part of that. the like cool noir approach it (sometimes?) took to filming loud pastels.

difficult listening hour, Monday, 3 March 2014 05:37 (twelve years ago)

whoa, I forgot Krysten Ritter was ever on VM

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 3 March 2014 05:42 (twelve years ago)

the "sunset lighting" & every room having blinds half drawn is starting to grate on me

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 3 March 2014 06:15 (twelve years ago)

haha havent seen the show since it came out but that's exactly how I remember it now.

Saw this last night in a mostly packed theater and I really enjoyed it, despite me not having watched much of the show (I remember watching an episode back then but it didn't do much for me).

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 14 March 2014 16:36 (twelve years ago)

glad to hear the movie holds appeal for a neophyte. but dude! you have to catch up on the show now!

still alive, but charged with murder (some dude), Friday, 14 March 2014 16:40 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I could see how the shuffling from one character to the next could be seen as fan service but since I wasn't technically a fan before the movie, it served as a nice introduction to the world and how expansive it got by the end of the show's run.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 14 March 2014 16:45 (twelve years ago)

seeing this tonight sort of against my will. i have fond memories of v mars but every time my wife rescreens an episode it feels stupider and stupider. assuming the movie will be roughly on the level of star trek: insurrection, the standard for post-show feature-length episodes.

Gibbering Hard Gibberish Soft (Leee), Friday, 14 March 2014 16:55 (twelve years ago)

No spoilers intended with this post, but I'm getting the impression that most fans prefer Logan over Piz as Veronica's love interest? Because based off this movie alone, I'm mostly for Piz over Logan. Sorry everyone.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 14 March 2014 17:30 (twelve years ago)

Which one is the vampire?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 14 March 2014 17:32 (twelve years ago)

Can't wait for this. O/h is walking around singing 'Veronica Mars' to the tune of 'One foot in the grave'.
Stupid movie ticket says it's 68 min long but apparently it's proper movie length.

kinder, Friday, 14 March 2014 18:16 (twelve years ago)

i think we're gonna watch online since i can't deal with packed movie theaters. just bought some old school popcorn maker and fancy sodas so looking forward to an at-home event!

just1n3, Friday, 14 March 2014 18:35 (twelve years ago)

Just saw this today in a half empty theatre. I really think they nailed it, it was everything I wanted from the movie. Feel guilty for not giving money to the Kickstarter campaign now.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 15 March 2014 01:02 (twelve years ago)

This was so poor :( Feels like they tried to edit a whole season down to movie length, lost all character and distinctive dialogue, and were left with clunky exposition.

Stevie T, Saturday, 15 March 2014 13:51 (twelve years ago)

what! it was great. They had to wrap up what would be a season-long mystery into 1.5 episode-length so ... the end was a bit rushed. But otherwise I thought they got the pacing and playing to the fans about right. <3
(also multiple Freaks & Geeks actors, yay)

poor piz :(

my screening was totally full (with some younger kids, too) but it's showing like 6 times in total in a handful of theatres in the UK. It was a really good atmosphere!

kinder, Saturday, 15 March 2014 22:10 (twelve years ago)

also I'm pretty sure there is a Mitchell & Webb reference in there (for UK viewers)

kinder, Saturday, 15 March 2014 22:15 (twelve years ago)

is piz EIC of p4k

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 15 March 2014 22:33 (twelve years ago)

is the plot "who killed mark richardson"

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 15 March 2014 22:33 (twelve years ago)

the mystery was pretty weak, but the dialogue, especially the essential back-and-forth between veronica + her dad and veronica + logan was exactly what I wanted to see. the theater I saw loved it, but it was a fan screening so unless it was a total bomb they would go nuts. but I didn't hear anyone complaining. also oh pizpaws delivered on a great aspect of the original show, where someone lowers the boom on veronica about her terrible behavior and leaves her speechless.
