xp i agree with the first part of your assessment, but it's kind of left me indifferent more often than not. it's got some good jokes, i'll give it, but i still feels like it's "finding its footing" as a show
― Nhex, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 20:45 (twelve years ago)
that's the thing - as they never stop bringing in boyfriends or wacky new employees, i don't think it ever will! But I love the goofballs (even if they're scrambling to fit them all in an episode) and find Mindy & Michael to be really rich, novel leads for the romantic angle. If one of the parts didn't work for me (which seems to be the case for a lot of people), the chafing prob would keep me from watching.

The creator of Happy Endings has a new show that's gonna be on NBC, so this won't last long: http://tvline.com/2014/01/08/marry-me-nbc-pilot-happy-endings-david-caspe/
― Murgatroid, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:00 (twelve years ago)
too bad Wayans Jr is already on New Girl, otherwise they could just cast him and Coupe
― SHAUN (DJP), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:03 (twelve years ago)
Oh, I knew Casey Wilson got engaged, but I didn't realize it was to the guy who created Happy Endings. Anyway, as inferred in the article, I hope she winds up on the show.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:04 (twelve years ago)
otherwise they could just cast him and Coupe
That would be perfect.
Wayans is only guest starring on New Girl this season though, right?

xp He's got some kind of single dad pilot in the works iirc.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:33 (twelve years ago)
i can't remember if he's in the credits (new girl barely has credits right?) but he's in the promo stuff w/ the other cast members. i think he's a recurring guest star or whatever heather locklear was on melrose place and whether he's on the show next year depends on whether his pilot gets picked up. i hope he stays tbh, he works well on the show and there's something quietly radical about having more than one 'black guy' in the gang.

Hey guys, every ep is now streaming on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/HappyEndingsFull/videos
― Murgatroid, Thursday, 23 January 2014 16:23 (twelve years ago)
Wish it was Netflix so I could bug someone to watch it - don't think YouTube's gonna cut it. But cool anyways
― Nhex, Thursday, 23 January 2014 16:37 (twelve years ago)
video's video
― j., Thursday, 23 January 2014 16:39 (twelve years ago)
thanks so much for this! I missed a bunch of earlier eps
― kinder, Thursday, 23 January 2014 17:42 (twelve years ago)

― Lamp, Thursday, 23 January 2014 19:02 (twelve years ago)

― kinder, Thursday, 23 January 2014 20:59 (twelve years ago)
shit this cast was so good together
― j., Friday, 24 January 2014 04:43 (twelve years ago)
I just watched the pilot for the first time, it's weeeeirdpilots are always nothing like what they eventually turn into tho
― kinder, Friday, 24 January 2014 11:15 (twelve years ago)
Coach is getting more & more Brad-esque on New Girl - totally killed it this week.
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 24 January 2014 23:28 (twelve years ago)
xp agreed. I just rewatched it too. My initial instinct on watching the pilot was that show was OK but not particularly special, which is still true - it really got a lot better w/season 2. Still, I might go through S1 for kicks, I wasn't watching too keenly back then
― Nhex, Saturday, 25 January 2014 04:05 (twelve years ago)
I don't remember exactly when S1 stepped up, but it was somewhere in there. Otherwise I wouldn't have been so hyped about S2 when it finally got on tv. I have the dvds. I should watch it again.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 25 January 2014 04:16 (twelve years ago)
i think it goes pretty fast. only the first one or two are a touch wacky-post-friends-sitcomy.
but s1 is short too.
― j., Saturday, 25 January 2014 04:24 (twelve years ago)
it feels so weird that they were trying to have genuine gravitas back then, knowing how excellent it would get when they finally ditched that business
― Nhex, Saturday, 25 January 2014 04:25 (twelve years ago)
I guess this is...good-ish news...?

Cuz-Bros??
― Nhex, Thursday, 3 April 2014 19:53 (twelve years ago)
good news imo. i can see a show with a Happy Endings-ish sensibility doing better in Comedy Central's current primetime climate than on the networks.
― some dude, Friday, 4 April 2014 15:41 (twelve years ago)
But where's Eliza
― Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Friday, 4 April 2014 16:22 (twelve years ago)
good fucking question tbh
― some dude, Friday, 4 April 2014 16:33 (twelve years ago)
Eliza & Elisha need to stay on TV in perpetuity. maybe they can get the Letterman gig.
― some dude, Friday, 4 April 2014 16:34 (twelve years ago)
Otm, i'd watch them do a tag team talk show host as the sisters from Happy Endings. That would rule.
I'm happy Pally's ended up on The Mindy Project, he's pretty good there. It's a shame the New Girl writers have no clue what to do with Wayans.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 April 2014 17:03 (twelve years ago)
nah Wayans is great on New Girl. imo one of the most inspiring stories in the recent history of network casting is how they went from having one token black guy in the pilot to having a different one in the series and then bringing back the original and having GASP two funny and distinct black guy characters in a network sitcom cast.
― some dude, Friday, 4 April 2014 17:07 (twelve years ago)
I don't think he's been awful by any means and I'm glad he's there, it just feels like the writers aren't sure what to do with him, which is why they keep going back to the well with his Cece storyline. Feel like he just kinda gets wasted in some episodes.
― an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 April 2014 17:10 (twelve years ago)
yeah but that's the case with everybody on that show whenever they decide to refocus on Jess/Nick/Schmidt, before that they gave him a lot of screen time/plots
― Nhex, Friday, 4 April 2014 17:20 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, that ties into my larger problem with this recent season in that the Jess/Nick stuff was eating up way too much unfunny time and giving all of the other characters short shrift.

COUPE!

And with Michaela Watkins writing! Should be good.

the Happy Endings cast member sitcom diaspora and the Women Lorne Michaels Did Not Like As Much As Kristen Wiig sitcom diaspora keep overlapping and doing good work
― some dude, Saturday, 18 October 2014 21:11 (eleven years ago)
lol
― Nhex, Sunday, 19 October 2014 03:44 (eleven years ago)
Coupe was best thing about this show
― Master of Treacle, Sunday, 19 October 2014 05:08 (eleven years ago)
The best thing about this show was everyone
― 💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Sunday, 19 October 2014 15:50 (eleven years ago)
Except Dave. I know Dave had to be there in order for the show to function, but I never liked him.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 October 2014 15:53 (eleven years ago)
that's so Dave!
― kinder, Sunday, 19 October 2014 17:47 (eleven years ago)
Dave won me over sometime around when the show started being consistently great... probably just after the beginning of season 2
― Nhex, Sunday, 19 October 2014 18:34 (eleven years ago)
V necks
― Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 20 October 2014 03:00 (eleven years ago)
Dave (and Dave Sr.) was (are) responsible for one of my top 5 Happy Endings things - the "Mr. Rose was the name of my father." "But... that's me." bit.
― Jouster, Monday, 20 October 2014 07:07 (eleven years ago)
Dave's dance at the start of the very last episode, when everyone disappears from the kitchen, is amazing
― Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 20 October 2014 08:48 (eleven years ago)
ok i've been out of the loop with this show (and happy endings) ... am i the only one more than a little FREAKED OUT at how much wayans jr takes after his dad?? holy moly. at first i was like dang damon wayans is looking good these days. i mean obviously i am an idiot. but really. it is astonishing.
