godammit why is this not on youtube

Oh wait, you're playing records? I thought you were perfoming things, duh. Sorry, fully grasping the wrong end of the stick there. Anyhow...
http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/files/2007/02/0223siren.gif Does anyone want my ticket for LOOP & KVB tonight at the Concorde? For free? http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/files/2007/02/0223siren.gif
Gutted to be missing it but I've got the lurgy and I'm too poorly to move...
― exciting vampire castle (NickB), Thursday, 5 December 2013 10:04 (twelve years ago)
I would if I wasn't massively unwell (and poor and stressed) too.
I'm both playing records and performing things, btw. The band already worked out the most inappropriate covers set to play onstage (though we realised the Lostprophets cover idea would fall flat as almost nobody would recognise the songs).
― emil.y, Thursday, 5 December 2013 12:38 (twelve years ago)
Aw, you too still? My brain is so gunked up, feels like eyes are going to get pushed out my skull by this huge expanding ball of snot in the centre of my head.

Message circulating at work:
Please note the bottom Dyke Road is currently closed due to a suspicious device. Bomb disposal experts are attending.
― rp boo bryson (NickB), Friday, 6 December 2013 14:54 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, a friend just posted on facebook about that. Weird. I could go have a look?
― emil.y, Friday, 6 December 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)
tempting but um
probably just someone's shopping anyway
― rp boo bryson (NickB), Friday, 6 December 2013 15:31 (twelve years ago)
Honestly I'm not sure if I can leave my house anyway. Developed a killer headache after drinking wine and listening to covers for hours last night, got barely any sleep and still feel horrible now. Think cold/stress/coffee/booze combo was not good for me.
― emil.y, Friday, 6 December 2013 15:36 (twelve years ago)
i feel yr pain! didn't sleep much either - if i lie down for an extended period all the snot in my body just flows to my head. such yucky!
― rp boo bryson (NickB), Friday, 6 December 2013 15:41 (twelve years ago)
"bomb" turned out to be some twat's art project <- only in brighton

Uh, wut? As in, intentionally causing a bomb scare as an art project, or art project mistaken for bomb accidentally? Will heavily sway how much of a twat I think this person is...
― emil.y, Friday, 6 December 2013 16:18 (twelve years ago)
i *think* (and hope) it's the latter but who knows?

Is there anywhere particularly good to get a relaxed lunch with veg options around the Lanes / Queen's Road? Pubs would be fine. I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
― Ramnaresh Samhain (ShariVari), Thursday, 12 December 2013 18:50 (twelve years ago)
i don't eat out often enough to be of much use but you'd be hard-pressed to find many places in brighton without a veggie option tbh.
― grumbling führer (NickB), Thursday, 12 December 2013 19:26 (twelve years ago)
I am no good at food recommendations, really. Would you be willing to go into North Laine as well as the Lanes?
There's a pub called the Prince George at the bottom of Trafalgar Street that specialises in vegetarian pub grub that people seem to like - I'm not mad keen on it as a pub (there are better old-style pubs in this town) but it's perfectly fine in most respects.
The Basketmakers is a lovely pub with good food but I don't know about vegetarian options - most places do veggie now, though, so I'd be incredibly surprised if there wasn't anything. This is also North Laine, on Gloucester Road.
The Victory is a nice pub actually in the Lanes, on Duke Street - food has usually been good there, and as above I'm pretty certain they do vegetarian options.
I've been interested in checking out this tiny African restaurant/café/bar place on Queens Road called the Blue Man but it is an unknown quantity, might be worth it, might be terrible.
But honestly, I'm bad at this food game, you're probably just as well wandering around and seeing what you find as listening to me.
― emil.y, Thursday, 12 December 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)
basketmakers definitely do veggie burgers and veggie roast but i don't know what their lighter lunch options are like. elsewhere in the north laine, the dorset was alright foodwise the last time i went (which was ages ago tbh) but it does have lots of space, iydea is completely veggie but it's kinda small, infinity cafe is all veggie too but kinda expensive, komedia is okay for snacky stuff and beer...
terre a terre and indian summer are still great places to eat veggie food nearer to the seafront, but they're both proper restaurants with pricing to match.
― grumbling führer (NickB), Thursday, 12 December 2013 19:57 (twelve years ago)
Iydea on Kensington gardens is a good bet, but can be pretty busy at lunch times, but there are a million veggie places in the North Laine. On Queens Road at Brighthelm Gardens there will also be the street Food market tomorrow lunchtime.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 12 December 2013 20:15 (twelve years ago)
Thank you all so much. Those are really great suggestions. I only have to be in The Lanes for about fifteen minutes in the afternoon so can definitely look further afield. I'll have lots to choose from now.
I'll be there tomorrow so the street food market could be a good option too.
― Ramnaresh Samhain (ShariVari), Thursday, 12 December 2013 20:29 (twelve years ago)
probably worth asking in any of the pubs what the wait is like for food cos if yr pushed for time, you probably don't want to go to the george ime
― grumbling führer (NickB), Thursday, 12 December 2013 20:36 (twelve years ago)
if they're busy, if i can finish that sentence

I rather like the idea of it gradually decaying and falling into the sea. Seems somehow appropriate. Rather that than some ghastly reconstruction.
― my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Wednesday, 5 February 2014 13:42 (twelve years ago)
Gradually being the operative word, there.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 5 February 2014 13:43 (twelve years ago)
It's been falling into the sea for the 15 years or so I've been going down there. Is that not gradual enough for you?

Moar bombscare yesterday, just around the corner too. Had forgotten the last one was only 2 month ago.

I was down there having a look earlier today, not much water left but pebbles and seaweed all over the place, so you could tell it must have been quite something. Did notice that the only kiosk under the arches that didn't have sandbags against the door was Eva Petulengro's, clairvoyant my arse.

wins: as far as I know the financial backer pulled out of the i360 (really?) and now the council are considering getting a £35m loan to build it themselves. I would quite like to go up the thing once, if it was cheap, but I’m not convinced it is a sound long term idea.

Sweet Williams & Henry Blacker at the Fitz for free on Friday, but I probably won't make it; at a party on Saturday.
― emil.y, Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:22 (twelve years ago)
From the descriptions I found, it sounds like Sweet Williams & Henry Blacker might be something I'd enjoy, but Mrs Poo is not so sure. Thanks anyway Emil.y!

If you are intersted in house and techno - snd who isn’t? - Ed’s vinyl are doing a pop-up shop with in-store DJs, and are also doing a one-off record-cutting service. Apart from that, not much on.

Yeah, I went in the other week and they had more on sale than usual, but no actual indication they were closing soon.

if anyone fancies a sunday lunchtime pint or two this weekend, i've got a +1 for the esben & the witch/thought forms gig at the hope (12-3pm). might hang around in town watching the football/eating after that cos it's stephen o'malley w/ aluk todolo at the GDS later on too (note to self: don't forget yr earplugs)
― narcissism of vas deferenses (NickB), Tuesday, 8 April 2014 10:38 (twelve years ago)
Maybe, but don't keep it aside for me as I'm horrendously sick right now so shouldn't be committing to anything. Not going to the SO'M show, either, wrote it off as a bit too expensive.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 11:05 (twelve years ago)
aw no, hang on in there em! o'malley is a bit pricey i guess, also i know i'm going to spend half the time having a panic attack that station concourse is going to come crashing down on our heads (note to self: maybe a hard hat too)
― narcissism of vas deferenses (NickB), Tuesday, 8 April 2014 11:16 (twelve years ago)
I am spinning Italo on Friday at Fitz and have a friend down but he is leaving on Saturday morning, so could possibly be interested but can’t commit.
I’m also playing at the Green Door Store next Thursday before Good Friday - house/techno/disco type stuff, pretty excited but hoping it will stay busy!
