I don't think iPhones are universal yet or maybe the geek at best buy told me they only had the verizon 5S for some kind of geekysquad fun?

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Monday, 2 December 2013 01:17 (twelve years ago)

http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

Still different models for CDMA and GSM in the US plus sprint and Verizon need different phones as they have different LTE bands.

The rest of the world has yet more models.

AFAIK All iPhones support GSM and full HSDPA/HSUPA so they get the fastest 3g technology wherever you are in the world but you are limited on where you'll get LTE coverage.

Looks like the A1533 does ATT, Verizon and tmobile

乒乓, Monday, 2 December 2013 01:27 (twelve years ago)

unless you're on sprint or a regional carrier they're all that model in the US

most likely they only had verizon-allocated ones, sunny

Your biggest concern I think is that the battery will conk out in which case you can pay ~$80 USD or so to get it replaced by Apple

If that happens in all likelihood you'll get a nice refurbished 3GS

Are you sure about the refurbished thing? When my battery conked out and I agreed to pay for another one, they just opened it up and replaced the battery (within an hour or so). Battery replacement is one of the things they have the tools and expertise to do in the back room.

Alba, Sunday, 8 December 2013 12:52 (twelve years ago)

I just got the battery on my 5 replaced after a diagnostic showed that it was malfunctioning badly (it would drain 40% during a 30 minute commute)

SHAUN (DJP), Sunday, 8 December 2013 13:49 (twelve years ago)

xp That's what I've heard but it probably depends on what they have on hand

Sounds like you were unlucky

乒乓, Sunday, 8 December 2013 13:53 (twelve years ago)

How much does a battery replacement cost? Mine is wack. Last night it went from 88% to dead

Jeff, Sunday, 8 December 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)

~$80 out of warranty

SHAUN (DJP), Sunday, 8 December 2013 23:28 (twelve years ago)

my battery has been wack for a bit, took it in, turns out i was a MONTH out of warranty. they gave me half off the replacement after i grovelled though.

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 9 December 2013 05:03 (twelve years ago)

well: so a year ago or whatever when they announced the new mac pro, i thought it looked cool enough. now tho i am in the position of actually needing to buy a new mac computer for pro audio + possibly video use and am finding myself just bewildered by what professionals apple thinks they are targeting with this computer. you have to add thousands of dollars in accessories to have even close to the same level of connectivity as one of the towers, what with their preponderance of things i need, like pcie slots and hard drive bays. dammit.

Pulled the trigger on a space grey 5s today. If I'm going to be stuck with a surveillance device it might as well be a tricorder.

Tragic mouse.

Glad that all my people agree the 5c is a shit trash ugly piece of shit phone

, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 06:22 (twelve years ago)

So Apple's genius move is to give it less storage and sell it for more than an iPad mini.

stet, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 09:45 (twelve years ago)

and for a measly £30 less than the 16GB model

no 8GB 5c on US site yet, not sure if these will be available worldwide

Lee626, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 10:08 (twelve years ago)

still have yet to see a chart comparing 5c sales to previous year old models cause thats what its replacing

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 13:26 (twelve years ago)

Apple refuses to publicly break out iPhone sales by model so we can't know for sure. I think the 5c would have sold better if they discontinued the 4S at the same time though.

Lee626, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 13:32 (twelve years ago)

now I want to change to a 5c to be contrarian

have a nice blood (mh), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 13:49 (twelve years ago)

hard to say. the 4S was not only cheaper, but a different form factor, making it more markedly "inferior" compared to previous phone upgrades

i flaked on getting a 5S, guess I'm waiting for the 6 now

Nhex, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 14:12 (twelve years ago)

when they come out with the 6 and its super thin and beautiful i strongly believe they should also offer a thick version with a huge battery that lasts for days

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 14:18 (twelve years ago)

You could just put the thin and beautiful version in one of these:

i have one of the 2009-style imacs that we got in 2012. "about this mac" says it's a "27-inch, mid 2011". should i max out the ram? 'cause it's not that way now.

markers, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:54 (twelve years ago)

(i have mocked people for always asking questions like this but fuck it)

markers, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:55 (twelve years ago)

my ipad is so much faster and it's a first gen mini

markers, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:55 (twelve years ago)

I am guessing you're running Mavericks, right? That would alleviate memory congestion but you're going to see some pauses when it's retiring things in the background as you do more in the foreground.

How many gee bees are in it now?

have a nice blood/orange bitters cocktail (mh), Friday, 28 March 2014 15:56 (twelve years ago)

def mavericks since the day it was out.

and i got 4.

markers, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:58 (twelve years ago)

which is whatever it came with. the second question would be whether to go with apple ram or 3rd party shit, right? i don't know much about the hardware specifics and have never finished an anandtech review.

markers, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:58 (twelve years ago)

yeah, 4gb is sufficient but far from optimal

buy third-party memory

have a nice blood/orange bitters cocktail (mh), Friday, 28 March 2014 16:00 (twelve years ago)

sounds good. thank you. that's what i've spoken to my father about. i'll have to bring it up again.

Argh, sorry. Just go to there and select Apple -> iMac -> 27" late 2011 and it'll give you a fancy list

have a nice blood/orange bitters cocktail (mh), Friday, 28 March 2014 16:01 (twelve years ago)

oh shit i've never bought anything off this. thank you though. *looks*

markers, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:02 (twelve years ago)

You can easily buy from other sites, too. They're just nice for exchanges/etc since it's the actual memory company.
