where is smagghe on the 24th? not that i can go, anyway, i think.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

did any of the rest of you think that smagghe was a bit disappointing in july, btw?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

omg I'm djing at fabricplo and I didn't even realise.

none of us stayed til the end of smagghe, remember! I enjoyed it but not so much that I'd rave about it for weeks afterwards. isolée was great though.

nite versions = rmx album yes, the nite version of 'e talking' is the one which always gets played out.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

sep 24: he is at the fabric, again. July was... I dunno, I wasn't so fond of the dudes before isolée (not enough banging bangers! or um any change whatever, it felt like, mind you I am philistine) and that kind of put a dampener on the whole thing, but I was dog-tired before I even got there, so. One reason why I want to see him dj again.

spontine (cis), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

fabric would be much better if craig richards was banned. i'd much rather they did that than stay open til 10am or whatever.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

the nite version of 'e talking' is the one which always gets played out.

thanks! i deleted all the versions of this a while ago, but it'd been in my head recently and i wanted to know which one to download, and now i do. they're going to be really good live, i suspect.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 September 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

e talking - nite version with nancy whang, terrific, always gets played; disco drama version with tiga, terrific, never gets played; original, terrible. there are probably other versions which I haven't heard.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 1 September 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

rex the dog, way overrated.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 September 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

I am in London for two weeks from tomorrow, I will miss Vitalic though! I want to go dancing.

The last honest gentleman (nordicskilla), Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

the NY Lipps dub of "NY Excuse" is also very good, basically booted the original with Lipps Inc "Funkytown", such a simple floorfiller!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I will miss Vitalic/2MDJS as well. 22nd looks great though. 10am less so. I am a wuss these days.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 September 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

strongly tempted by the 22nd I must say, if I can manage it, I am waaaay overdue a trip to London.

I am interviewing monsieur vitalic this weekend!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

does anyone know who else is at fabriclive on oct 7th? fabric appear to have shut down their website right now. alternatively, does anyone know any good MIA/grime-style gigs coming up? my sis wants to know, and i'm not down enough with the kids to have a clue...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

how easy is it to smuggle drugs into fabric? i'm talking mdma powder or coke... any tips?

deep kid, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

oct 7 is forget about the sugar, toby!

(cis and i were contemplating going on to fabric afterwards, actually, on the assumption that diplo will probably be on after 2.)

there's a grime gig on sep 16 (clashes with poptimism unfortunately) at, er, the vice pub. jme, skepta and big h are lined up.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

e talking - nite version with nancy whang, terrific, always gets played; disco drama version with tiga, terrific, never gets played; original, terrible. there are probably other versions which I haven't heard.

The Rex mix is king - I always let it play through. Still doubt I'm showing on Friday as I'm sure to overexert myself rock'n'roll dancing in Fulham.

BARMS, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

i'll be at forget about the sugar, lex! i'm not going anywhere near this fabric live nonsense...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

chicken.

spontine (cis), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

toby (tsg20), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

last night was fun. I can't believe how small room 1 is though. Is fabric always that packed? Soulwax nite version works so well.

jellybean (jellybean), Saturday, 10 September 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

soulwax nite version are incredible! I didn't even know they existed, and wow. It was a bit more crowded than fabric - well, fabric sat - usually is, I though, usually there is at least some minimal room in which to dance.

spontine (cis), Saturday, 10 September 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

Explain Soulwax Nite Version to me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 September 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

as far as I know it involves LIVE ELECTROHOUSE REMIXES or something equally insane, all I know is it is heaven to dance to.

spontine (cis), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

It's basically what they did to NY Excuse repeated for the whole of the last album. Lots of the good vocal/instrumental bits put to house beats and remixed all together.

Just a shame I couldn't see much, with all those tall blokes standing in front of me.

Simian Mobile Disco were a lot more dancier than I expected too.

jellybean (jellybean), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

oh and room 3 had loads of room to dance in early(ish) on.

jellybean (jellybean), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

tongiht in london:

luciano and alex under @ the end
nathan fake @ the key

:((((

when is fabric birthday?!?!?!?!

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Sat 22nd October.

Tempting.

I can't decide whether to try and go over for the Birthday (MANDY and Booka Shade!) or Michael Mayer (Michael Mayer!).

It's like the DJs I've never seen and really want to versus the one I know is brilliant.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 September 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

do the birthday one, ronan. it goes on til 10am! and luciano will surely be amazing, too.

soulwax nite versions is on slsk now, btw.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

trying not to feel ABSOLUTELY GUTTED about missing Luciano last night

...

Adam in Edgware (nordicskilla), Sunday, 11 September 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, well, on the bat walk, we got to play with BAT DETECTORS and discovered that bats make hyper-sonic noises that sound like Autechre! I'd dance to that!

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Sunday, 11 September 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

why did youmiss it adam?

i saw jo jo whatsername from nag nag nag play electrohouse and mike dred playing v fast acid (UI stuff) in different rooms at the same time. v strange line up

ambrose (ambrose), Sunday, 11 September 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I didn't realize he was playing until very late last night

Adam in Edgware (nordicskilla), Sunday, 11 September 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

wait a minute, what/where wasw this mike dred stuff? autumn is passing me by, what happeened this weekend?

terry lennox. (gareth), Sunday, 11 September 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Ricky T = FOOL for skipping Fabric even when spare guestlist became available! AMAZING AMAZING NIGHT.

Fabric was more rammed than I have ever ever seen it before and half the people downstairs seemed to be wide-eyed indie kids there for the first time and petrified of all the people asking them for pills. I can't imagine how little room there would have been in the main room, even the balcony was fairly packed!

I want to know who was playing in room 2 (? - the one where Vitalic wasn't) last, we went there after 2manydjs got too indie and it was insanely banging and fucked with my head a bit.

Photos might emerge at some point...

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 11 September 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

I know that no one else dance to shoegazing but me, but I'll be dancing at this:

Get ready to party like it’s 1991 to classic
shoegazing sounds from the Velvets to the Valentines
to Ulrich Schnauss as the SONIC CATHEDRAL opens its
doors for worship on JOHN PEEL DAY, Thursday October
13. Appropriately, there’s a very rare live outing for
JIM REID, former frontman of Peel favourites The Jesus
And Mary Chain, plus one of the first UK appearances
from Australia’s THE MORNING AFTER GIRLS. On the decks
are THE TELESCOPES, who have promised some Peel
treats, and some very special SURPRISE GUESTS.

SONIC CATHEDRAL
THE NIGHT THAT CELEBRATES ITSELF

THURSDAY OCTOBER 13
THE LEGION
348 OLD STREET
LONDON EC1

THE MORNING AFTER GIRLS (live)
THE TELESCOPES (DJ)

Fabric was more rammed than I have ever ever seen it before

surely this means it was horrible!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure it was horrible downstairs! I only ventured down there once.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Mark Ronson's at Notting Hill Arts Club tomorrow night and I may hit it up.

Drowning Man (Barima), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
is anyone up for mandy/booka shade and co?

I am half thinking of booking a flight over.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

I am up for this, definitely.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

i have a ticket already.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 October 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

incidentally if i'm reading the ticket correctly it means i don't have to turn up until close to 1, which could be a good thing with it going on until 10am.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 October 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking of going to this.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Saturday, 8 October 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

same. 16 pound on the train...

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

everyone should come! have you all noticed that prins thomas is now on the bill, too? also green velvet + lasers might well be the best thing ever, i suspect.

is anyone else up for magda/hawtin/villalobos on nov 19th? if not then i may have to ysi the hawtin/villalobos essential mix, as i find it hard to believe that anyone who's heard that wouldn't want to come along...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

yes, send me the mix!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)
