i am so sorry i didn't read it the first time around. thanks for the revive nick (and i'm sorry but with the current depleted pool of posters i can't see this being surpassed within a week)

back in the 70's this game helped confirm that I was colourblind - I always got the green & brown ones mixed up. not that they all looked the same, but I'd call the green ones 'brown' and vice versa. to make it more confusing, artificial and natural light reversed the situation (think it was natural light that made me correctly identify those colours).

Clearly.

"Women displayed a contradictory streak, with 72% saying actor Brad Pitt's designer stubble actually made him more appealing, and 66% admiring Manchester United star David Beckham's hint of hair, while only 43% preferred researcher Nick Dastoor's attempt at manliness."

it seems clear to me that Senha contains actually the senha to the whole saga. and notice how in all ases since its the brasilian version, it contains the cheesiest moustache + cigar combination

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Thursday, 26 December 2002 03:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

YES some other people actually played this. In the 80s, this game and CAN'T STOP (does anyone rem that game?) were my life.. now years after puberty you all are making me look at the cover picture is such a dirtier way, god bless you

I'm home for Christmas; turns out Mom gave away my old version of Mastermind.

:(

Good lord, my mind is reeling from this thread. Thanks for reviving it as I'd missed it first time around.

I'd never seen all those different versions, just the first one which I think is still lingering in a cupboard but missing most of the pins.

I am thinking of creating a 21st century Mastermind box using ex-marine as MM4 and weird devil girl as GF4 with photoshop. Is this wise?

DO IT NICK!!1

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:56 (twenty years ago) link

Sorry MM5 and GF5 - I lack mark s's encyclopaedic knowledge of the saga.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:06 (twenty years ago) link

I think weird devil girl = MM5 (actually MM4 since as established* above "MM4" = MM1) and marine = GF4 (not GF5)

(*Establishment harder to follow since sinister yet telling disappearance of relevant picture evidence)

Another piece of the puzzle has come to light:

I feel as if this woman knows all, but is not telling. Yet what part in the saga does she herself play, if any? If only mark s were here.

This thread has some of the funniest material ever on ILE, mostly thanks to Mark S.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 12 August 2004 19:07 (nineteen years ago) link

in the early GF1/MM1 phase (which note represent the SECOND actual mastermind historically: MM2 was the first, as seen only in poor ly reproduced pix)

this absolutely killed me

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 13 August 2004 02:27 (nineteen years ago) link

the second actual mastermind historically!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 13 August 2004 02:28 (nineteen years ago) link

OMG this thread is fantastic!

I love it when the MM packaging goes all Dr Who on our asses.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 13 August 2004 03:24 (nineteen years ago) link

I once suggested to a couple of my friends that they go to a 'childhood memories' theme party as the MM box people. They declined and went as Monkey and a Grange Hill pupil instead. This thread is proof that my idea was better.

robster (robster), Friday, 13 August 2004 07:08 (nineteen years ago) link

The Mastermind ppl only look like the Mastermind ppl, to all but the most studious observers at least, if they maintain their pose behind a table with Mastermind on it....and doing this might well spoil yr enjoyment of the party, speshly if there was someone on the other side of the room you really fancied....

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 13 August 2004 08:02 (nineteen years ago) link

....and it would be rather reliant on a dedicated host bringing you drinks all evening....

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 13 August 2004 08:02 (nineteen years ago) link

if there was someone on the other side of the room you really fancied....

You could show them how brainy you are by challenging them to a game of MasterMind!

robster (robster), Friday, 13 August 2004 08:08 (nineteen years ago) link

You could construct some sort of projecting platform on strings like a frozen-albatross lady at the cinema, but with a mirrored surface and a mini mastermind set in place. Then you could go about your business, only remembering to maintain the relative positions of the MM and GF at all times. Easy.

Sadly my Travel Mastermind has no lady and gent on it, just a picture of the game :(

Thus the faces of Bill and Cecilia – her married name is Masters – have become part of many households.
