xp I think it definitely contributes to people being hostile towards rape victims both online and off-line, and perhaps that culture could contribute to higher instances of rape or lower instances of conviction for rapists?

i've defended some elements of the men's movement (partic. robert bly) on ilx before but rarely get takers. reddit MRA is kinda the abhorrent vulgar personification of a group of disparate ideas that may have more or less merit ime.

I wonder if there's a way to have a sophisticated conversation about "men's issues" that is not dismissive.

I mean, guy loses kids in custody battle because someone at some point in the process makes an assumption that the mother's would be the better home, when that isn't the case: in that specific scenario, guy has a grievance

What do you make of the oft repeated claim that men are over represented in dangerous employment and the military? Legit or just whining?

Over-represented in most authority positions.

I dunno, don't the military and dangerous employment (security/construction/machines) have a history of being resistant to letting women in?

I wd broadly agree with the idea that when feminism (or any identity politics) loses contact with class (and general economic) awareness, we have a problem, that might be relevant

If for example feminism was saying that women have it difficult and men have it easy, that wd ignore unemployed men, male victims of war, male victims of poverty. Obviously. But I don't think feminism is saying this, it's usually saying that men have it less difficult than women do, not that they have it easy.
