ilx should start all over again with a new colony of whoever finds us.

maybe leave idk cankles here dormant, like in alien.

nb this idea was best carried out a year or two ago, obv.

i'm sure this will require some complex work to the rotation of the earth and gravity and stuff like that but it makes sense

Out of curiosity, how often does the tracking for read threads get reset? More in the spirit of this thread, can we give an option for users to mark an entire thread unread?

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Saturday, 16 November 2013 20:10 (twelve years ago)

It's not really a length of time - gets a bit technical this. Each user's information is cached when they use the site in what's known as a "least-recently used" cache. This means that each time you do anything on the site, your data gets stuck at the top of a long list. If you don't use the site, you'll slowly drop down the list. If you don't use it for some period of time (unclear as to how long, since it's dependent on how many other people are using it), then you'll eventually drop off the bottom of the list and the information is lost at that point.

i have an idea, how about getting rid of that dumb code that obscures email addresses and makes them unreadable to both spambot crawlers (if those still exist) and human beings alike

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 18 November 2013 14:58 (twelve years ago)

denied

mh, Monday, 18 November 2013 14:58 (twelve years ago)

like why not make it space out the email address or something so you can still see what it is

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 18 November 2013 14:58 (twelve years ago)

i had an idea for ilx last week but now i can't remember it :/

call all destroyer, Monday, 18 November 2013 15:04 (twelve years ago)

pplains, Monday, 18 November 2013 15:06 (twelve years ago)

was it adjusting the search results so that it displays how many messages are in each thread, which would help people to identify the most popular/relevant thread for a particular topic when conducting searches?

reckless woo (Z S), Monday, 18 November 2013 15:06 (twelve years ago)

no but that's a cool idea!

instead of just waiting for someone to say 'new board title' to get the board titles (inefficient)... sell naming rights for each board, and then use the profits to attract new fresh talented millennial posters to the forums

sleepingbag, Monday, 18 November 2013 16:19 (twelve years ago)

millennials are too lazy and self involved for ilx

lag∞n, Monday, 18 November 2013 16:20 (twelve years ago)

fix the bug where auto-hotlinking of URLs automatically leaves off forward slashes if they fall at the end of a URL

(see the first few posts of this thread for an example).

Intersting!

That sounds like it could accommodate a function to let users delete a thread from their read list?

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Monday, 18 November 2013 17:09 (twelve years ago)

also simple [youtube] and [vimeo] tags that work with any sort of url those sites spit out

I get a little disappointed that I can't use it here.
