The name is kinda nonsensical given that only the first one counts for anything. "Flag this post for moderation" - this is not what is happening at all, seems weird to lie about it. If the system changed in any way I could see it making sense, and possibly being useful/better than sb.

At this stage there isn't too much point in arguing about it as it doesn't seem like it's going to get reversed ever. But my main issue with FP is that it doesn't work. SB worked - people who were really being jerks were temp-banned. Since the switch to FP, I don't think anyone has actually been temp-banned based off the FPs (maybe one or two? I can't think of anyone though). And it's not like people coincidentally just stopped being jerks when the switch happened.

yes but for example whereas you once spoke jocularly about using the word 'faggots' in your collegiate radio show, probably one of the things that got you banned, the last time it was brought up you were at pains to mitigate this and expressed regret about the whole episode

I'm now in favour of FP. The name entirely makes it, IMO. I say this as the site's most-SB'd individual

I also think that personally I needed to be SB'd a few times to get me to revise my posting style

heh...the reason I revived this was thinking somebody was being such a dickhole and suddenly remembering for the first time in weeks that there was a way I could register my irritation and get it out of my system.

i think people saying "you're being stupid and you don't even realize it" or y'know, explaining why that's offensive had a lot more to do with it than the parade of "lol I sb'd you asshole"

seems like too often it got to the point of "I disagree with something this dude said so i'm gonna cast a vote to ban him from the entire message board" which feels less defensible when the action of "flag post" really structures it as such. it's almost as if the whole idea of "lets vote on who we do and do not like" is kinda stupid within a community of 35-year olds

idk ilx seems a lot more chill these days, although i don't spend nearly as much time here as i used to and p much mostly avoide the troublesome threads. also it was pretty freeing to realize that as one of the least valuable posters, people mostly don't give a shit about my opinions of stuff.

I dont think i was ever like "lol faggots" though? the name of the radio show was an acronym that spelled out "F.A.G.", it was an idea that my co-host came up with (who is gay and also enjoys making people uncomfortable), and I went along with it b/c I thought it would get a rise out of people and I love dumb wordplay like that. "Team America: World Police" did the same joke a year later. Obviously I know it's immature now but it's not like I was brandishing the word around even though people were asking me to stop.
