does that scare u

midwife christless (darraghmac), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:30 (twelve years ago)

The blinding logic and rationality of your arguments certainly freak me out.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:32 (twelve years ago)

i'm getting worried about yr obsessive need to explain my lack of belief, or to categorise it, or to lump me in with a group that may or may not exist in a way that would suit yr own beliefs, tho, tbrr, but this is not the thread for that

midwife christless (darraghmac), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

xp as i said, i'm cool and down with yr belief in whatever, but tbrr 'logic and rationality' is not a strong rock upon which you should be looking to found this discussion imopo

this is like being an onlooker at a Jehovah's Witnesses doorstepping

am i knocking or being bothered in that scenario

midwife christless (darraghmac), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:35 (twelve years ago)

atheism isn't some gentle and private disavowal of belief--it's an assertive ideological belief system and always has been. the fact that it, as a rule, tends to explicitly claim otherwise is the entire problem with it. it's not some space outside of belief, it's a belief and can be critiqued as such.

ryan, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:35 (twelve years ago)

midwife christless (darraghmac), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)

Is there an actual correlation between selfrighteous atheism, neckbeards, fedoras, and bitter "friend zoned" privilege deniers or is this some smoke and mirrors internet thing? I want numbers.

Treeship, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)

I feel worse about the Christian friendzoned kids who aren't bitter.

pplains, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:42 (twelve years ago)

go on twitter and start talking about atheists and, more importantly, athiests, and you'll soon have a good sample group.

Merdeyeux, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

lalla ward?

midwife christless (darraghmac), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)

Yeah i don't want you to explain your lack of belief. You seem to not approve of my use of the term atheism and my 'obsessive need' is simply me trying to explain my use of that term and asking for clarification from you. So far the most coherent argument you offer is that I do not get it, and you seem to not want to delve into it any further than that. I'm genuinely interested in your personal definition, why my definition is wrong, etc.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:45 (twelve years ago)

I dont believe in these fedora atheists there i said it

Treeship, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

i don't have any further definition than 'doesn't believe in a god'. i don't understand why that is either not explicit enough in the term or not sufficiently baggaged tbh adam?

midwife christless (darraghmac), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

the fedora delusion

Merdeyeux, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:47 (twelve years ago)

I'm not dmac, but what definition? No belief in a man upstairs. There's no practice to it. There's no calling cards or weekly meetings.

That's why the atheists in this thread who I am teasing are so funny. They've taken their lack of belief almost to a level of the true believers.

pplains, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:47 (twelve years ago)

What a bunch of knuckleheads

Treeship, Monday, 4 November 2013 17:48 (twelve years ago)

Here's some headlines from r/pics today:

• I bought some marmalade at the farm today and was intrigued by the ingredients

• Someone falls asleep on his shoulder; lets him sleep 12 more stops claiming, "we've all had long days."

• MOTHERFUCKING BOUNCY HOUSE DAY!!!

• Meanwhile in America....

• Today my boyfriend had two seizures and a stroke while trying to recover from a major surgery replacing his aorta. ThIs is last picture I took of him at Mount Hood two days before.

• My mom drew this with 3 different color pencil crayons. I think she's amazing. Reddit, help convince her to make a career out of this talent!

• My cousin died Friday in his FedEx truck on the interstate. He was a soldier, father, brother, cousin and a best friend. This is the FedEx building in Atlanta today. You'll be missed buddy.

• Recently, I have been painting a lot of digital portraits of women. Do you enjoy that style?

Need more atheist billboards, tbh.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 November 2013 18:08 (twelve years ago)

I dont believe in these fedora atheists there i said it

Yeah I think that hat and that beard are just things that were fashionable among people who might go on the internet, and some of these people were also members of certain groups on the internet.

Paedophiles are also supposed to wear fedoras and neckbeards according to the mythology, as are legalistic friend-zone disputants. These groups being lumped together under the fedora is what makes me think the hat might not be a good category or reference point.

cardamon, Monday, 4 November 2013 18:10 (twelve years ago)

Also I think it's relevant to this discussion that, AFAIK, average age of a reddit poster is 28. If all these people on reddit were just teenagers, I don't think I'd feel it very pressing to talk about them/attack them

cardamon, Monday, 4 November 2013 18:14 (twelve years ago)

Pedophiles wear clown suits, get your generalizations straight.

Need more general superstition/supernatural billboards:

Bigfoot? Could be. Lots of trees to hide behind out there.

how's life, Monday, 4 November 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)

I was playing GTA5 online this weekend and got put on a team during a deathmatch with two dudes wearing fedoras and suits.

Had to ask myself again," Ok, so now what are you doing with your life?"

pplains, Monday, 4 November 2013 18:19 (twelve years ago)

lol our Joel's GTA Online posse wanted to fedora up and he politely suggested maybe they cd choose their own hats
