And to think that the average Australian can correctly distinguish between Kazahkstan and Kyrgizistan, and name all the principle rivers of Siberia. It is nothing short of flabbergasting.

the stans (excluding pak and afgan which are easy to find) go in alphabetical order clockwise so its really not that hard

To be honest I was pretty vague about where most US states were before I did this thing:

JFC Mexico has a lot of states. I don't even know how many I could name let alone label --

Yucatan
Q.R.
Oaxaca
Chiapas
Baja California
Sonora?
Jalisco?
I think there's a state called the equivalent of "Mexico State" or something, right? Like where the capital is located? That's about all I got right now.

Andrew Kornfan, Friday, 1 November 2013 03:50 (twelve years ago)

lol @ doghead/cathead

would also guess 90% of australians really dont know how many states australia has because what IS a state and what is a territory and who the hell knows?

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Friday, 1 November 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

South Australia bothers me because

1.) There is already a "South" state, NSW.

2.) There is Western Australia and Northern Territory (which may or may not be a state.) Having "Southern" in its name could even opened itself to hella bunch of Southern Cross opportunities. But now, it's South Australia, kinda like South America but not really.

pplains, Friday, 1 November 2013 18:59 (twelve years ago)

South Dakota, South Carolina?

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Friday, 1 November 2013 19:46 (twelve years ago)

Northern Dakota, Northern Carolina?

pplains, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:17 (twelve years ago)

northern california, southern california, centralern california

lag∞n, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:19 (twelve years ago)

i can't explain why, but I'd say -ern is more of a broad area of a location while straight up North This or South That is a proper name.

So maybe it's West Australia that needs to get in line, but still.

pplains, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)

At any rate, consistency is needed.

kate78, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:50 (twelve years ago)

Three states. Want three states.
