Coconut cashews are back on the shelves after a long disappearance!

Untt (La Lechera), Monday, 14 October 2013 21:05 (twelve years ago)

got a two foot long stalk of brussel sprouts for $2.99

that's about as much as they are in the plastic bag and it's totally worth it just for the crazy looks i got from everyone while holding it walking around the store and then with it sticking out of my bag on the bus ride home:

TJ's is the only place I've ever seen sprouts on the stalk! I didn't even know they grew that way before I started shopping there. So bizarre and enjoyable.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 10:15 (twelve years ago)

I've seen sprouts-on-the-stalk at Fairway too. Can you do anything w/the stalk? Like make uh stock?

screen scraper (m coleman), Thursday, 24 October 2013 10:32 (twelve years ago)

Sword fight.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 10:43 (twelve years ago)

xxp they probably don't, they probably just adhere them to the stalk to look quirky

Stevie D(eux), Thursday, 24 October 2013 11:00 (twelve years ago)

the stalk is pretty dense and fibrous but I'd imagine it wouldn't hurt to throw it in a stock with other veggies

i'll probably just throw it in the compost

i've been waiting forever for the sprouts stalks to come back

the first TJ's in South Florida caused a mob scene in the parking lot last Saturday, with local businesses towing cars when TJ customers used business spaces.

I'm so excited guys to go there today and buy lots of things. (I've been in a cooking rut and using up ingredients lately so pre-made food is p special.)

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)

ALL THE SPROUTS!1112! Although how I'll get them home by bike is a separate problem.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

i'm sad because i bought a bag of sprouts from TJ's last week, for probably the same price, and their selling point was that they were 'microwaveable in the bag'

乒乓, Thursday, 24 October 2013 14:28 (twelve years ago)

xpost bungee-tie it to your crossbar

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Thursday, 24 October 2013 14:33 (twelve years ago)

I think it was 乒乓 in this thread who called the brussels sprouts stalk the most noise of all vegetables, which for some reason has stuck with me.

I end up buying a lot of TJ's sprouts in a bag because I like sprouts and they are right there, but I always wash, trim and roast them so their steam-in-bag aspect is wasted on me. Plus the thought of eating a steamed brussels sprout is so gross to me.

Dill? Hmm. Perhaps.

I go the OO and balsamic route, in the oven until the outer leaves crisp. Or in a skillet with garlic, although it's hard to keep the garlic from burning in the amt of time the sprouts take to get a crust on them.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 14:51 (twelve years ago)

My special occasion sprouts are sauteed in browned butter and are soooooo good. They are a sometimes food, though.

carl agatha, Thursday, 24 October 2013 15:10 (twelve years ago)

went to the TJs here and no dice. ugh. come to think of it the last time i saw them at a TJ was at a TJ in the midwest. maybe we just don't get those out here on the east coast

乒乓, Thursday, 24 October 2013 18:32 (twelve years ago)

NNNOOOOOOO. I had to buy the bagged ones.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 19:01 (twelve years ago)

We've had them! I've gotten them! Not this year though.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 19:31 (twelve years ago)

I just shoveled two beef tamales with tomatillo sauce into my face-hole and that is pure comfort food.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 19:57 (twelve years ago)

Also bought

cheap Boursin
triple-creme brie
smoked & salted almonds (life-changing)

Stevie D(eux), Thursday, 24 October 2013 23:02 (twelve years ago)

sauce = salsa?

Stevie D(eux), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:54 (twelve years ago)

it is abt as tasteless as a blackface halloween costume

Stevie D(eux), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:54 (twelve years ago)

it's almost intriguing how you can put so much of it on or in something and not taste it one single bit, idk how they do it, like I eat a glob of it the size of a quarter and it's just melted cheese texture and mouthfeel with no discernible taste

Stevie D(eux), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:56 (twelve years ago)

bought some TJ's gruyere that is the same way. TJ's cheeses can be pretty hit and miss.

Coconut caramel dark chocolate. Really liking it though it could taste a little more of coconut.

what is the closest thing trader joe's has to cheez-its? I got the cheddar rockets but they are goldfish

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 10 November 2013 05:51 (twelve years ago)

i would also like to know this because cheez-its are the fucking best

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Sunday, 10 November 2013 05:57 (twelve years ago)

pretty sure we had a thread about this (cheez-its vs not cheez-its) which reminds me that some of you are flavor hating animals

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Sunday, 10 November 2013 05:58 (twelve years ago)

Why not just buy cheez-its? Do they have veal powder in them or something?

I don't think TJs has a cheez-it analog, unfortunately. Their crackers are pretty weak in general. They need to step up their cracker game.
