Louie (Louis C.K.'s show on FX)

just finished it last night, loved it but man are the female characters even more messed up than usual. the ex-wife character is the only one who acts like a human.

Oh, I've definitely met variants of the Parker Posey character. But the Sevigny character may have been a bridge too far.

yeah agreed that was a little much and made me look back on the other women (delores, parker posey, maria bamford) in the season.

btw i died laughing every time louie's manager stared blankly or the camera revealed that he had been sitting quietly in the room for a whole scene.

Funny how about a third of the stories felt somehow conventional/familiar (though really funny)--especially the bratty kid, the Melissa Leo date--versus a whole other original genre.

I've said it before, but I really like how starting a Louie episode is a lot like reading a new short story by a favorite writer--no clue as to whether it's going to be epic or intimate, light or dark, rather than just comedy or drama.

watched the pilot episode of Lucky Louie last night. weird sitcom format. also noticed that he's had that matriarchy/first guy to punch his mom bit that he did on SNL last week for quite some time.

tonight at 10pm 2 new episodes of LOUIE on FX. I hope you like to look at and listen to them.

I took a year off between last season and this one, mostly so I could have more time to do the show, to make it better. This season is very different from past seasons. The first three episodes are pretty typical of what we've done in the past, Self-contained stories. But the next 6 episodes after that are all connected in one story. Then we have a three part story and a two part story. So lots of… parts stories. Yeah.

I admit that if I was gonna guess this season's guest stars, Charles Grodin and Yvonne Strahovski would not have been my first picks.

had a nightmare about paying a rich man 5k a month for the rest of my life. maybe not quite that detailed but that was certainly the gist.
louis is good at hitting those terror spots; the doughnut store bully still engages fight/flight when i watch it.

Is it too much to hope that Louis develops a blood condition sometime over this season? Because GRODIN

that's sort of the thing with this show, every time the episode ends I usually think "was that it?" because they go by so quickly and don't usually contain a lot of plot. I did like some of the touches in this one...at the cafe with Tom Papa with all the zombie-like teenagers on their phones in the background - it would seem very cliche and kinda dumb if he focused on it more, but as a background detail it was neat.

i don't know, maybe he's setting us up for a great multi-episode run, but this show hasn't done it for me since the 1st season...he took two years(?) off to work on the show and those first two episodes were the result?

i thought he took time off to not work on the show.

I thought I remembered him saying he wasn't thrilled with the last season, that he was going too fast and wanted to take a lot of time to rejigger the show

If the 2nd season didn't do it for you it's probably not gonna work at all going forward.

I can't recall which epsiodes were in which season, but it's all been of a consistently high quality as far as I'm concerned.
