I chose this because I stupidly bought into the "but it's a dry heat" fallacy. 1) It is not a fucking dry heat in August and September, it is the Baja rainy season and over 80% humidity every day and 2) even if it is a dry heat, fuck you 113 F.

Supposed to have Santa Ana winds in LA today and Saturday, but so far not windy at all and not overly hot (82 w/ 30% humidty).

Brownie, I'm about 1000 miles south of SD, near the Tropic of Cancer (ha!). The pool is now in the high 80s instead of the mid-90s, so I guess there is hope that I might not die.

It's so insanely humid today. I just slowly walked a half mile and I am covered in a visible layer of slimy condensation.

I mean, we never take the AC units out until November bc every October is warmer and grosser than I want it to be and yet I am offended to my core every time.

I'm sitting in my room SWEATING. My skin is an oil slick. Hot coffee is distasteful. It's all gone monkey-sided and I hate it.

Just carrying my laundry to the Laundromat drenched my shirt in visible sweat.

On the bright side, I am finally able to get a decent data connection here, which will surely make doing laundry more tolerable.

Well, I guess spring is finally here in sunny Los Angeles.

Dunno. Heard it was autumn, so I took out my warm pyjamas. Then started wearing my swimming trunks with a sweater and socks. Then I replaced the sweater with a t-shirt. Even in winter, I don't normally wear socks to bed, so I've no idea what I was thinking.

I'm not worried about earthquakes really, no place not subject to some violent geological or hydrological disaster or other. But hot weather in a town with no A/C makes me ill.

Yeah the humidity in Chicago has been like being licked every time you go outside. I've been trying not to go outside.

It's HORRIBLE out. That said, we've had a fairly mild summer so far and it's supposed to get a lot better by Wednesday this week but this weather makes me want to die.

The weirdest thing to me is when I'm p much dying and sweating from parts I didn't know it was capable to sweat from and then see someone in like pants and long sleeves who looks totally dry and cool and not bothered at all. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE?

my mom told me about this surprise anniversary party she went to with my dad, who always wears a suit regardless of where he's going, and it was like 90+ degrees. She said she found him sitting in the garage seated alone, immobile, and offered to take his jacket but all he said was "I'm not going to move" so everyone else was on the lawn waiting for the surprise and my dad was a suited statue in the garage. lol?

Got the kids out of the pool, and while my dad and I were asking my son why he wanted to wear sweatpants instead of shorts in the 102º weather, my oldest returned from her chambers wearing long pants and a knit sweater.

It takes me so much longer to get dressed when it's this hot because I have to go lie down on the bed under the ceiling fan so I can fully dry off before trying to put a bra on (putting a bra on a damp body is such a disgusting feeling), then I have to carry all my make up into the living room where the window AC is because I can't put it on in the bathroom since my face is constantly wet from sweat or if not sweat, exactly, then moisture from the air condensing on my face.

I feel bad complaining about the heat since we've had a really lovely, mild summer so far, too, but fuck it, I am just so miserable in this weather.

The other thing I forgot to complaint about re: this humidity is how the parts of our house not served by window units (so the kitchen, bathroom, and dining room) will become covered in mildew in approximately 1.5 seconds once they become damp. It's vile.

It reminds me of when I was growing up in the swampy mid-Atlantic coastal region and we kept envelopes in the fridge because otherwise they humidity would seal them shut.

xxp -- I think a good chunk of that bill was keeping our shop coolish (80F) for 10 days while we had the new kitten out there, when we thought we were just fostering her and didn't want to put her in the house with the other animals. But the next bill will probably be as bad now that the highs are around 100 and the lows are in the upper 70s.

Whitehorse! Remember when I worked with those at-risk kids? The org I worked for had a relationship with member of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation who live in Whitehorse. They came to visit and we had a bunch of workshops with them (we used their peace circle techniques for conflict resolution between the participants at the center). I was outside smoking with the chief and a couple others and it was maybe 80 degrees that day and they were dying. I dint' understand since it wasn't really that hot until one of them said, "This is probably as hot as it's ever been in Whitehorse!".

And you exhaled a plume of smoke and said, "Dude. If you wanna ride..."

Aw, they were the nicest folks. I really would like to go to whitehorse one day but preferably at exactly this time of year. Also PP - my friends were recently in Alaska and took pics of 4th of July fireworks at mightnight in complete daylight and it was so weird to see and try to wrap my head around.

I think my exact words were, "So, when can I visit?" to which they sincerely answered, "Any time! We love having visitors!". I really don't think I've ever met a group of people who were so genuine and sweet.

So you're saying the group from Whitehorse were laid back.
