holy shit at that.

the only thing that saves that piece from being a total embarrassment is that it was at least published in a magazine. So you can't say no one cares.

da croupier, Thursday, 3 October 2013 00:32 (twelve years ago)

He should have worked on the ending a little more.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 October 2013 00:33 (twelve years ago)

I hope Dubya writes (or at least dictates) a piece like that when Obama's 2nd term ends.

da croupier, Thursday, 3 October 2013 00:35 (twelve years ago)

aren't you getting tired of hating it?

not exactly

conrad, Thursday, 3 October 2013 08:45 (twelve years ago)

smh @ whoever said that the fact that some critics didnt like or understand this episode just shows that its not good

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 3 October 2013 13:47 (twelve years ago)

Case in point:

By the end of the third episode, the series is closer to “Dexter” but only a sliver as entertaining. Creator and executive producer Vince Gilligan has crafted a show that veers into black comedy over the course of the first three episodes, one that is bloody, unpleasant and tedious.

Like Will Ferrell, Cranston is a performer who has a weird fetish for showing off his body and running around in his underwear. “Breaking Bad” displays Cranston in all his flabby, pasty glory. Next week, he even gets a butt shot, which may thrill some but left this viewer wanting to rub vinegar in his eyes...

Coming off of its Golden Globe win for “Mad Men,” AMC anticipates another hit. Somebody’s gotten high on some bad dope. Just say no to “Breaking Bad.”

pplains, Thursday, 3 October 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)

Wow. That's probably the first time I've heard of anyone who didn't like the pilot.

Nhex, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:03 (twelve years ago)

Just say "I'm not a chicken. You're a turkey!" to Breaking Bad

well, we cant really deny this:

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:06 (twelve years ago)

I didn't exactly run to this show when it first aired after seeing Malcolm's dad in that apron.

I mean, FX starts running ads of Al Bundy becoming a cocaine overlord in Durango and .... Ok, I'd watch that, but you get my point.

pplains, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:08 (twelve years ago)

That was me making up my mind before even watching an episode. Boston guy actually watched the first three and came away with that review.

hack TV critic for "No homo."

brio, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:11 (twelve years ago)

I love thinking of this hack Boston tv critic trying to come up with a dismissive pun.

Oddly enough, David Milch really wanted Ed O'Neill to be Swearingen on Deadwood, but HBO refused to center their expensive new Western around Al Bundy.

da croupier, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:37 (twelve years ago)

He was all right on Dragnet and in that Mamet movie; I could see potentially pulling off an edgy serious drama

Nhex, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:39 (twelve years ago)

iirc milch was inspired by seeing him do shakespeare, it was just about HBO not wanting to risk everyone lol'ing at the poster

da croupier, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:42 (twelve years ago)

honestly, that's a fair complaint

Nhex, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:43 (twelve years ago)

yeah, though I wonder if it'd be different now, post-Cranston

da croupier, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:43 (twelve years ago)

i can only imagine how differently BB would've been with Matthew Broderick

Nhex, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:44 (twelve years ago)

who is the next sitcom dad to become a serious cable antihero

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:44 (twelve years ago)

Ray Romano's Men Of A Certain Age probably would have done better ratings if they'd had guns

da croupier, Thursday, 3 October 2013 14:47 (twelve years ago)

xpost!!

I know a couple of critics who were ambivalent about BB early on. One pro writer friend of mine actually tuned out for much of the third season because she couldn't really take the show, but then quickly caught up with what she had missed and never got off the boat after that.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:32 (twelve years ago)

I called Ty Burrell a while back, but we're clearly going to be some time before we see get to see his turn to the dark side.

Coke Opus (Old Lunch), Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)

Nhex, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

C'mon, Will Arnett. Time to step it up a notch.

Bob saget always had a dead reptilian look in his eyes.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)

These all sound crazy, but 30 years ago, I bet Jerry Lewis could've played Walt.

pplains, Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

Deniro could be badger then lose 50 lbs to be skinny pete

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

xp The problem is Jerry Lewis is totally unsympathetic

Nhex, Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

I'd like to see Dave Foley take a stab at something like this.

Coke Opus (Old Lunch), Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:49 (twelve years ago)

No, no, no. It's

SCOTT: Walter
MARK: Skylar
KEVIN: Jesse
DAVE: Hank
BRUCE: Marie

pplains, Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:00 (twelve years ago)

lol Bruce would do a GREAT Marie

Maybe, but he would've turned the barrel-stealing scene into a slapstick tour-de-force.

hopping and bopping to the krokodil rot (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

just switch Scott & Dave and then omg

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:06 (twelve years ago)

yeah Scott is great at asshole cop types

Hip Hop Hamlet (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:08 (twelve years ago)

Paul Bellini as brock

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

good call, would definitely like to see Foley in a black comedy/drama - any of them really

brio, Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:23 (twelve years ago)

you should watch this it's really funny http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120536/

and i agree Scott should play Hank.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 3 October 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

I didn't even know The Wrong Guy existed until I read about it a few weeks back. It really is hilarious and great.

And Dave played a really good depressed version of himself on Maron recently. Dude has a (totally justified) air of melancholy that would translate really well to a darker dramatic role.
