Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

the only thing they really had on him was him throwing lots of money into the street I think

they have DVDs of him confessing to murder

no, the Nazis do. or did.

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 21:57 (twelve years ago)

wagering they destroyed them after watching, though was never shown obv

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 21:58 (twelve years ago)

crazy that they considered doing a báthory story for skylar!

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 21:59 (twelve years ago)

Tuomas otm, what we definitely needed was Gilligan spoonfeeding the audience every thing they should have felt and that would happen in the forseeable future.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant.

I don't think it would've been that difficult or finger-pointy to make the final episodes at bit more even-handed. They could've shown how Skyler was dealing with her new life as the Wife of Heisenberg and her new taxi dispatcher job. They could've shown Lydia's kid on the background when Walt was killing her. They could've given Marie even one proper scene after Hank's death. They could've shown just a brief glimpse of Gomey's family. Etc. I think it's telling that even though most supporting players had arcs and characterication of their own during the previous season, almost all of that was ignored during season 5B.

Tuomas, Monday, 30 September 2013 21:59 (twelve years ago)

Nazis had sacked the place, but it was by no means made clear that they had gotten all the evidence. Jack wanted to kill Jesse because he fingered Todd on the confession, so it was clear in Jack's mind at least that there was a good chance the feds/DEA knew about it

I would have loved this ending: Walt dying on the floor as police walk closer, fade to black, fade back to white as walt is brought back by paramedics -> montage of him in custody, no agency, humiliated, his son and marie yelling at him at trial, him dying of cancer, alone and pathetic, in a hospital bed.

Would have giving him the triumph, but then taking all control away from him.

Frederik B, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:00 (twelve years ago)

They could've given Marie even one proper scene after Hank's death.

she was a terrible character tbh I'm glad they didn't do this

yeah, see it sounds to me that you didn't think this episode was tidy enough.

why would any of this had been good?

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

for any reason except to prove that the show's creators and viewers were morally above it all?

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

so sad we didn't get 10 scenes of Marie crying and screaming "HANK! YOU WERE MY ROCK, HOW DO I GO ON?"

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

it would have been so fuckin weak, and like croup said, the tidiest of endings, really

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

for that matter where was Gomie's wife, why was she left out?

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

wish we'd seen how the DEA office dealt with their deaths and the structural and managerial challenges they would have faced... vince gilligan is a monster

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:03 (twelve years ago)

I was relieved we didn't see the rest of the family except in small bits. The episode tried to be schmaltz-free -- and largely was.

wish we could have seen the Skylar meeting with the prosecutor too

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:04 (twelve years ago)

why would any of this had been good?

Because it would've made the finale feel less like Walt won, like he did good in the end. And it would've made viewer remember there used to be other interesting characters in the series too.

Tuomas, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:05 (twelve years ago)

xpost "For the information you've supplied me...I think we can cut you a deal".
"You don't cut me anything. I cut YOU!!!" (pulls out knife out of pants pocket, stabs prosecutor)

(Looks up at sky) "That was for you, Walt"

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:05 (twelve years ago)

the finale DIDN'T FEEL LIKE WALT WON TO THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE POSTING ITT

why do you have so little respect for the viewer? I mean, you remembered.

i mean we totally see how marie and skylar are living, and it's depressing as fuck. Even with Walt's moolah hypothetically on the way, I didn't feel like the show didn't give me enough signals that they're suffering for walt's crimes.

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:06 (twelve years ago)

xpost hahaha

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:06 (twelve years ago)

xposts would've been nice to see more of Marie but idk exactly what. i like my tv spoonfed to me in small chunks but i would've welcomed those last 2 episodes being 10-15 minutes longer cos there's a lot more character stuff they could've done

cerealbar, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:07 (twelve years ago)

Tuomas, it's devastating that Walt left his wife a chain smoker who will likely develop cancer herself.

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:07 (twelve years ago)

admittedly if you go into shows about crime and drugs with the need that they make thunderously clear that drugs are bad and crime is bad, then yeah, this show wasn't as good as the wire.

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

And it would've made viewer remember there used to be other interesting characters in the series too

not really. Walt was always the most interesting. Marie was terribly drawn, Skyler pretty one-note for much of the series

xxpost I mean sure, there's probably a few meatheaded cockfarmers who left their Breaking Bad parties going "YES! GO WALT! BOOMSHACKALACKA!" but who gives a fuck

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

i was p stoked that walt killed all the nazis

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:10 (twelve years ago)

yeah it was awesome

call all destroyer, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:11 (twelve years ago)

oh def, but I was also happy that it killed him indirectly as well

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:11 (twelve years ago)

while we didn't get one last "BITCH!" I'm glad we got one last "WAIT! WAIT! BEFORE YOU KILL ME...*Walt pulls lethal rabbit out of hat*"

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:11 (twelve years ago)

feel like Skyler got some depth towards the end as she was sort of whiplashed between being confidante/co-conspirator/victim. don't think she got the shaft in this episode at all, her scene was really great.

xp

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:12 (twelve years ago)

i mean i'm glad this shit got dark towards the end but it was only truly dark for like 7 episodes, there were 4.5 seasons of pulpy mayhem and the finale did what it should have and respected that.

call all destroyer, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:12 (twelve years ago)

xxpost I was also glad that it was one of the first "WAIT, BEFORE YOU KILL ME" exchanges that wasn't followed by the gun-wielder stopping, and going "go on...."

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:12 (twelve years ago)

yeah, I couldn't have dealt with two more Ozymandias, although really the episode after arguably did more to depress me at times. particularly the ring bit.

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:13 (twelve years ago)

though i don't think any other ending sounds nearly as good, I will admit that if you find walt super-repugnant, and enjoyed stories about lying to real estate agents, jesse's love-life and dreamy business owners with money problems, the relatively tight focus of the ending would be a bummer. But the show was always about Walt's choice and i think this was the best way to resolve that.

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:14 (twelve years ago)

i mean, my wife gave up on the show early into season 2 cuz she just didn't need to see what the Worst Dad Ever would do next, and that's totally fair. But that's a different complaint than that the episode was too easy on Walt, and too tidy a resolution.

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:17 (twelve years ago)

LOST was the first show of the DVR era, hiding little clues etc

Tuomas, what you wish you'd seen would have made for such shitty television and shitty storytelling.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

just saw it. brilliant. liked the "we all had some fucking fun tho didn't we guys?" feel of the final minute. sort of wonder years-esque.

If I sold all this blue

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:22 (twelve years ago)

scary to think that jesse is as close as there is to someone who's life wasn't made considerably worse by Walt.

(well, badger and skinny pete probably had more cash in the long run)

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:23 (twelve years ago)

better to have loved twice and lost twice then to have never loved twice at all

da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

xpost yeah even the damn janitor's life he ruined

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

thought cranston was amazing in this last ep, like he found some new depth to the character.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Monday, 30 September 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

I feel like they could have had exactly the same ending but actually executed it better. For example, Walt giving Lydia the Stevia was fine but the way the scene played out was pretty weird and over the top. Especially considering how subtle they were with, like, Huell stealing the cigarette.

polyphonic, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

putting this on again right now. One thing that pissed me off is that the video feed from Bright House corrupted, leaving me momentarily scared that I'd miss the final ep.

Neanderthal, Monday, 30 September 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

Tuomas, what you wish you'd seen would have made for such shitty television and shitty storytelling.

How is acknowledging that the show had other characters too, and giving them some sort of ending of their own (not necessary closure, but at least some ending) bad storytelling?
