I'm kinda sad that this episode seems to be leading not only to a Jesse/Todd face-off, but also to Jesse dying in the final episode. With another dead girlfriend to add to his guilt load, it doesn't seem like he has much reason to live anymore, besides ensuring Brock's safety. I'm still hoping the series will end with Jesse living in Alaska under a new identity, though. (I guess the ultimate happy ending would show Jesse adopting Brock and raising him, but with him now being a known criminal, that seems unlikely.)
I'm really, really hoping that the reason the Gretchen and Elliott interview made Walt change his mind about surrendering to the cops was the info that the blue meth is still in circulation, not Walt's desire to exact some revenge on the pair. Having Walt go after Gretchen and Elliott would seem like a pretty pointless thing to do in a series finale. (On the other hand, I'm not that fond of the Nazi ex Machina resolution for the series either, so I guess Walt going after Gray Matter would at least be something unexpected.)
I don't think the Gray Matter thing really needs to be addressed in the finale; in the first season scene where Gretchen and Walt discuss him leaving, it seemed pretty clear it was all because of Walt's personality (there was no implication of any triangle drama with Elliott), and we have already learned enough what makes Walt tic throughout the series. I don't think Walt leaving Gray Matter is a mystery that needs to be "solved", and having the very final episode provide Walt with some Freudian excuse for turning into Heisenberg would be pretty lame.

Also, can I just point out that Andrea getting killed was a very straightforward example of Women in Refrigerators. Sure, the plot made it seem like it was necessary to keep Jesse cooking, but there would've been other ways to get to the same point, so it seems she was killed mostly to give Jesse even more angst than he already has. (And to make Todd look like an even bigger psycho.)

I'll have to watch it again, but it's not unimaginable to read gale's stunned and frightened reaction as stunned about walt's cancer and frightened (more like anxious) about running the lab. c/r any reason he'd have to suspect gus of wanting walt dead, and gus' explanation is actually thoroughly plausible. it's more likely he thought gus was going to fire walt - yr boss pushing you to learn someone's job asap, that's normal business behavior. afaik gale was never exposed to the nastier aspects of gus' operation. well, until the end.
xps

I read the scene the same way as Matt: Gus told Gale between the lines that he is gonna kill Walt, and Gale understood that. Maybe Gus mentioned the cancer thing so that Gale wouldn't feel so bad about Walt's death, since he was gonna die soon anyway, but it seemed obvious Gale realized the cancer wasn't gonna be the thing that kills him.

Maybe Gale was a bit naive, but I don't think he was that naive. He knew what size of a drug empire Gus was running, since he was the one producing the drugs, and I don't think he was stupid enough to think Gus had gotten to that point without ever needing to kill anyone.

I dunno, gale seemed like a pretty sheltered animal
this is nonsense. he calls the cops and then sits and waits and watches tv... why would he do that if he was setting a trap and then planning to run away

Love how this thread is full of people going "Kinda sad/disappointed that it's all leading up to something I've just assumed is going to happen".
I reckon Jesse is probably the least likely main character to die (aside from Marie/Walter Jr/Holly).
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 09:58 (twelve years ago)
Todd is actually the One Who Knocks
Jesse is too, but he has a breakdown about it afterwards
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:17 (twelve years ago)
The look on Todd's face when they were watching Jesse's confession video and he described how Todd killed Drew... man, that was cold. He looked proud. I felt bad watching it.

gotta feel jesse is going to kill todd next week. just seems destined to happen. no way does todd leave this alive.
― Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:23 (twelve years ago)
That's what I want to happen. Bu I can see the writers going fully dark, and having Todd kill Jesse. I just don't know.

Is he though? Never been charged with anything iirc, and the only cops who knew his connection to the blue meth empire are dead.

Marie and Skyler both know about his involvement in the meth empire
― Ward Fowler, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:38 (twelve years ago)
Todd and the Nazis will all be dead by like halfway through the finale. The real confrontation is surely going to be Jesse vs Walt vs Skylar.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:44 (twelve years ago)
i can imagine walt and jesse having to team up v nazis - but obv that doesn't mean there won't ultimately be a confrontation between them.
― Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:46 (twelve years ago)
Obv. we will find out, but I want to know how manhunt Walt makes it from NH back to New Mexico, sick and dying and the most wanted man in America. Let alone how he would even find out the location of the secret Nazi desert base. Let alone what power he could possibly have over them. My guess, besides Jesse blowing shit up and dying, is Walt grabbing Lydia. She was brought back into the story for a reason. Same with Todd's infatuation. Lydia is the Weakest Link.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:55 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, that seems likely... The Nazis haven't been the antagonists until part two of season 5, it would seem a bit odd if the final conflict of the whole series involved them. Much more likely that the final confrontation is between characters who have been there right from the beginning, and Jesse/Walt seems like the obvious choice, especially now that Walt tried to get Jesse killed and spilt his beans on Jane. Though I wouldn't count out a Walt/Skyler or Walt/Marie confrontation either.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 11:59 (twelve years ago)

Let alone how he would even find out the location of the secret Nazi desert base.
I don't think it's ever been established that the base is secret...? Didn't Walt visit there when he was hiring the Nazis to kill Jesse?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 12:01 (twelve years ago)
Did he write down the GPS location for the secret base, too? I assume it's off the beaten path, way down Survivalist Compound Row.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 12:12 (twelve years ago)
Been thinking again about the Grey Matter thing and why Walt would have been pushed out of it. Like if he was forced out then it might work as the 'creation of the monster' moment but if he tried to force out the Schwarz guy and fuckede it up then it suggests the Heisenberg tendency was always there.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 12:21 (twelve years ago)
here's hoping jesse's bitch of all bitchs gets used on todd
― a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Tuesday, 24 September 2013 12:38 (twelve years ago)
They fade to black before Jesse shoots, so hard to say if Gale was shot in the back of the head or not - but it looks like it from the next episode when the cops are in his apartment.

I do have to commend AMC for resisting tagging promo stuff on to their iTunes downloads. FX has not resisted it and any time I watch Sons of Anarchy I end up with a FX logo montage and a teaser for one of their other shows

Did you do all the skating in Malcolm or did you have a stunt double?I did most of it. There were just two parts that I didn’t do, which is when I left my feet. There was a cartwheel and a handstand, which I did not do, but everything else I did. It was fun we had a week and a half to learn the routine and start skating. It’s fantastic what you can do with practice.

i feel like agitating for precise rather than general poetic symmetry in figuring out how gale was shot is kinda beyond. i don't think we have to imagine a writing room discussion in which they envisaged a collective audience gasp as, purposefully circulating from his already peak position in front of andrea, todd rounded her to stand behind her!, an eerie and literal inversion of jesse's memorably frontal killing of gale seasons earlier!. it is already a cool metaphor without us having to make it perfect. him being behind just kinda fit with todd's terrifying & skewed politeness & his nothing personal line.
also we all know that the thing the writers are really invested in, & the area in which they blow off steam to compensate for their restraint elsewhere, is making ambient dialogue and activity around scene segues weirdly relevant. he's a monster/chess pieces being knocked over/something this week maybe about jesse's dungeon or something, i forget.

The thought of Brock coming down and finding his mother dead on the doorstep is pretty horrible.
Starting to think the ricin cigarette is for Lydia, they made a point of showing she takes sweetener in her tea in the last episode.
