sure there's differences - but the two murders are definitely meant to be parallels, I think - and Jesse always believed he did have a choice and did the wrong thing... being forced to watch a similar crime to his own fits with his speech at the NA meeting when he's wracked with guilt about killing Gale: "If you just do stuff and nothing happens, what's it all mean?"

Walt's priority was keeping Jesse from getting Walt arrested and that's exactly what the Nazis did for him. Whether that's murder or capture doesn't really matter.

I don't know - I guess it's impossible to tell - but it would make sense if it did matter to Walt if Jesse lived. Jesse's still a potential threat as long as he's alive - especially after the Jane confession- either as a witness or seeking revenge himself, and he didn't seem too thrilled to hear they were still making blue meth. But I agree in general - Walt's motivations are pretty hard to make sense of right now, hopefully they make it all make more sense in the long run

walt has no survival instinct/interest rn, I think that's what this episodes rock-bottom-&-cancered prelude to him turning himself in was meant to demonstrate, so eliminating threats is not gonna be his m.o., ... imo

I do not need a huell payoff but I am curious to know how panoramic the next ep will attempt to be, like if we'll get to see Jesse's friends or not

On some level I think Walt isn't entirely full of shit in wanting to avenge Hank. That shooting took him to his most humble, small moment since Season 1. Contradictory in a sense that he made several threats to Hank and his livelihood, but whether his actions were putting Hank in mortal danger were at the back of his mind. And he was just that confident he'd win.

Certainly isn't the primary motivator, and it probably helps him sleep better to put a noble framework around his revenge, but I do think the murder shook him a bit. The money is an obvious motivator - he has to go out thinking the lives he destroyed, all of the work he put in wasn't for naught. Which is a hard thing to rectify when 7/8ths of the fruit of your labor was leeched off by Nazis. I don't even think Walt knows why he wants to go back at this point. He's seeing red over a great many things, all of which are located in the same place, and he has the benefit of the fact he's dying, meaning he has less to lose than everyone else.

Interested to see where this goes but fairly sure it will have a devastating capacity.

A capacity matched only by the low pass filter in Jesse's soundsystem's crossover so bangin

Having Todd's murder of Andrea mirror Jesse's murder of Gayle - knocking at the door in the middle of the night, shots to the back of the head - was really brilliant... a reminder that as much as we love Jesse, he too has killed an innocent, and at least part of the hell he's living in now is of his own making.

It was obvious in the context of the scene that Gale knew this explanation was bullshit.

mayyybe Gale's stunned and frightened reaction to Gus saying that could be a general fear of cancerdeath but I think that's a pretty charitable read

Andrea and Gale both got shot on their doorsteps but that's pretty much where the parallels end.

I'm kinda sad that this episode seems to be leading not only to a Jesse/Todd face-off, but also to Jesse dying in the final episode. With another dead girlfriend to add to his guilt load, it doesn't seem like he has much reason to live anymore, besides ensuring Brock's safety. I'm still hoping the series will end with Jesse living in Alaska under a new identity, though. (I guess the ultimate happy ending would show Jesse adopting Brock and raising him, but with him now being a known criminal, that seems unlikely.)

I'm really, really hoping that the reason the Gretchen and Elliott interview made Walt change his mind about surrendering to the cops was the info that the blue meth is still in circulation, not Walt's desire to exact some revenge on the pair. Having Walt go after Gretchen and Elliott would seem like a pretty pointless thing to do in a series finale. (On the other hand, I'm not that fond of the Nazi ex Machina resolution for the series either, so I guess Walt going after Gray Matter would at least be something unexpected.)

I don't think the Gray Matter thing really needs to be addressed in the finale; in the first season scene where Gretchen and Walt discuss him leaving, it seemed pretty clear it was all because of Walt's personality (there was no implication of any triangle drama with Elliott), and we have already learned enough what makes Walt tic throughout the series. I don't think Walt leaving Gray Matter is a mystery that needs to be "solved", and having the very final episode provide Walt with some Freudian excuse for turning into Heisenberg would be pretty lame.

Also, can I just point out that Andrea getting killed was a very straightforward example of Women in Refrigerators. Sure, the plot made it seem like it was necessary to keep Jesse cooking, but there would've been other ways to get to the same point, so it seems she was killed mostly to give Jesse even more angst than he already has. (And to make Todd look like an even bigger psycho.)

I'll have to watch it again, but it's not unimaginable to read gale's stunned and frightened reaction as stunned about walt's cancer and frightened (more like anxious) about running the lab. c/r any reason he'd have to suspect gus of wanting walt dead, and gus' explanation is actually thoroughly plausible. it's more likely he thought gus was going to fire walt - yr boss pushing you to learn someone's job asap, that's normal business behavior. afaik gale was never exposed to the nastier aspects of gus' operation. well, until the end.

I read the scene the same way as Matt: Gus told Gale between the lines that he is gonna kill Walt, and Gale understood that. Maybe Gus mentioned the cancer thing so that Gale wouldn't feel so bad about Walt's death, since he was gonna die soon anyway, but it seemed obvious Gale realized the cancer wasn't gonna be the thing that kills him.

Maybe Gale was a bit naive, but I don't think he was that naive. He knew what size of a drug empire Gus was running, since he was the one producing the drugs, and I don't think he was stupid enough to think Gus had gotten to that point without ever needing to kill anyone.

The look on Todd's face when they were watching Jesse's confession video and he described how Todd killed Drew... man, that was cold. He looked proud. I felt bad watching it.
