todd's proud and nostalgic but slightly uncertain face when uncle jack found out about drew sharp was perfect and chilling.

walt found out the blue meth is still out there and that his own son will never understand or listen to his point of view... maybe he's going back for the only son who can understand him

the whole calling the cops thing was a calculated gambit to focus attention on NH, he wants a head start traveling to the last place they expect to see him, NM, prolly half the ppl working his case are en route to NH now

rural places do tend to have a one road in / one road out layout tho, this is a suspen of disbe situation we got here

this is nonsense. he calls the cops and then sits and waits and watches tv... why would he do that if he was setting a trap and then planning to run away

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 23 September 2013 23:02 (twelve years ago)

so tbh i'm not quite sure what we're supposed to be left with, motivation-wise, for walt at the end of the episode.

nothing indicates he's motivated to go back and find some nazis.

he gives himself up. then watches charlie rose. then visibly gets upset when the schwartzs disavow him.

then he seemingly changes his mind and bails.

are we supposed to believe he's going after them now for disrespecting him one last time?

what other interpretation is there?

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 23 September 2013 23:03 (twelve years ago)

i think its just more he found his muse again generally

lag∞n, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:12 (twelve years ago)

how walt got his groove back

lag∞n, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:12 (twelve years ago)

well he literally has nothing to live for anymore, might as well just blow up some shit

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 23 September 2013 23:14 (twelve years ago)

ya but it's literally 4 minutes after he finally, totally, gives up... i dunno

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 23 September 2013 23:19 (twelve years ago)

yeah I agree with you, was just goofin

"Flynn, I have been an exemplary schoolteacher for the last 20 years. A good citizen. A father. A family man. A husband. I would never under any circumstances do anything to harm my brother-in-law unless I was doing it as a goof!"

da croupier, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:31 (twelve years ago)

love the little detail of lydia asking for more stevia, perfect. so many of these characters are so brilliantly fleshed-out, could easily hold shows/films of their own

NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:33 (twelve years ago)

still crossing my fingers that instead of a "prequel," better call saul will be about a cinnebon manager in Nebraska trying to climb his way back into riches

da croupier, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:33 (twelve years ago)

(gazillion xposts about the extended theme music)

played out a little weird too--like it was Walt's superhero music. "he's back!"

felt like this about the 'holding aloft the heisenberg hat' scene too. trying not to be too cynical about this show because it really is the greatest thing i've ever seen but i dunno, part of the fun is picking over it all afterwards.

NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:34 (twelve years ago)

does anyone even have any sense as to what the tone of the resolution will be, kinda crazy theyve got us here not knowing what way theyre gonna go with it, not plot wise but thematically morally etc

not a clue and haven't over the past few episodes. really disagree with the comment way way way upthread about the narrative arc for this series being 'predictable'. believable or feasible yeah, but definitely not predictable.

hat scene = RDJ in Chaplin

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 23 September 2013 23:36 (twelve years ago)

i know it would have made for dull drawn-out tv but i'd liked to have seen how jesse managed to open the grate. looked v difficult, he'd have to shove it up while dangling from one arm? can't picture it as he struggled enough holding on with two. have the writers/producers mentioned about filming this whole sequence in the podcast or anything?

also, can someone explain 'opie' for a britisher

NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:37 (twelve years ago)

young ron howard's character on andy griffith

NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:40 (twelve years ago)

because andy griffin means nothing to me. all we got was the beverly hillbillies and knight rider.

NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:40 (twelve years ago)

*griffith

NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:40 (twelve years ago)

looked v difficult, he'd have to shove it up while dangling from one arm?

the whole time I was watching this all I could think of was "why doesn't he work to swing his legs up and hook his feet through the bars, then it will be easier to support his weight while he picks the lock"

but no

"opie-looking" = "looks like opie from the andy griffith show." you're on your own from there.

he didn't say 'opie-looking' though, just curious about the characteristics of an opie

s1ocki, Walt decided to cook meth to get just enough money for his family to survive, but after interacting with the Schwartzes he started to have higher aspirations -- wouldn't let them pay for his treatment, and was insulted by it, and that was the seed of him wanting an empire, imo.

If anything, seeing them sitting on their cash and using it to contribute to a cause that's reparative to the damage meth does to the community is making him want to sit back on the top of his own empire -- his cash. Which is now with the nazis.

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Monday, 23 September 2013 23:58 (twelve years ago)

I mean, really what does Walt have left other than his money?
