it's not just something they have in common but something they share with no other places on the planet.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Enlighten us, Colin.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

I will be interested to hear the answer

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

i stole that tidbit from Robbie Lumsden so it must be true.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

Those from Tasmania are Taswegians.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

but I can't think of any more.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

apparently that's the informal and "tasmanian" is correct.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

An owl hooted in the vacuum of understanding.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

Roll call. Who in this bitch actually reads this thread?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

read is a strong word

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

We were discussing, in the pub, whether anyone who isn't us lot in Glasgow, actually reads this shit.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

Me

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

And why are you back from the pub so early?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

Because I was in Glasgow. We aren't as sophisticated as you posh East Coast types... (also you don't count as "not one of us lot in Glasgow" because you, sort of, are)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

Yes I suppose so. My work colleague continually gives people grief for being weegies. This happens a lot at work. The real joke is in the fact that every last man jack of us is actually from Glasgow.

A work meeting once went:

Person A: Don't speak to him, he's a weegie
Person B: I'm from Glasgow
Me: Me too
Person B: Person A, aren't you from Glasgow?
Person A: No way! I'm from Bellshill.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Was it Norman Blake?

(you are totally ONE OF US)

I was in the pub with Onimo tonight, we had last orders called at 10.30. If I knew how to make that in big letters to show my surprise, I would. You should all Try Renfrewshire More. (land of alkies, innit?)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

Jesus wept. You should try here more. The pub round the corner from me in Polwarth used to call last orders at 10:30 and it was the earliest closer in the city.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

This pub was in Glasgow. I defied last orders caller until he looked too scary (i.e. I couldn't be arsed drinking any more). I walked to the station, got a train, got back to Paisley, if I hadn't gone home I could have gone to the pub and have been drinking a pint still (and we left the pub an hour ago). Renfrewshire ROOLZ...

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

Is Renfrewshire not a bit... Banjoey?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

BUT OUR PUBS STAY OPEN PAST ELEVEN!!!

(also, YOU LIVE IN EDINBURGH!!! Isn't that a bit, erm, posh?)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

erm, you're posh = lamest insult ever

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't having a go! My Aunt May lived in Paisley. So did Gerry Rafferty. I've often wondered what it is makes Edinburgh posh. It might just come down to there being (perhaps) less outdoor toilets twenty five years ago, I think.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

I just misread that as "it might just come down to me being there". Which would have been my explanation.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

I read this shit, and may not be considered one of you lot in Glasgow.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 September 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

I read this also, and I would not like to be considered one of you lot in Glasgow because I'm not. One of you lot, in Glasgow, that I'd be pleased about.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 September 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

i read this shit. i'm not sure if i count as 'one of us lot' or not. especially seeing as i only started reading after i'd left glasgow.

michael grant (michael digby grant), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

I read this, and from next week I'll be back to commuting to Glasgow four days a week, but I still don't think I count as 'one of us lot'! PS get some decent weather, coming out of the tube was like walking into a cold sauna this morning.

alext (alext), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

The trick is to be naked and whipped with twigs.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

he does that every morning anyway.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 22 September 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Cozen, should I encourage D Betts onto ILX?

D Betts fanclub FAP!

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

no

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

ok

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

I'd forgotten about him. Yes please.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

who?
hello

dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Remember we were talking about all going out for a meal together, Glasgow people? We should do this. I propose next Saturday, since it's just after payday. And not a school night. And I'm not doing anything except celebrating the day after my last day at work. So, let's eat, Glasgow.

Someone suggest a restaurant because I never go out in Glasgow anymore.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

There's alext! I was talking about him today.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

RJG, sorry about that, my computer just blew up. It's a bit flaky at the moment. On the laptop now, but need to sort out instant messaging!

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I may be able to make next Saturday, but it seems a little doubtful. Still, it is a good idea whether I can or not.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

: )

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Next week I am going to a wedding on Monday, we are chucking a party at work on Thursday before me and the boss leave, then going out for a meal with my immediate colleagues, and on Friday we have a proper leaving do with all my other colleagues. So more booze and food will be just what I need by Saturday.

Doesn't have to be next Saturday, but people say if you want to go and recommend restaurants and we'll take it from there.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Dunkin' Donuts

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

Next Friday, I am going to Dublin!

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

night-time Madchen on ILE, hura hura.

stet (stet), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

It would be totally awesome to get Dicky Betts on ilx. He could show Keef how to like play all his guitars & stuff.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)
