now that's a long drum solo

mookieproof, Sunday, 22 September 2013 20:33 (twelve years ago)

I had no beef with the infrastructure btw, but with customs being redirected into two queues, one of which was served by five counters, the other by one (1); and me thus missing my connecting flight.

so: im gonna be in montreal from dec 6th - 10th. anything particularly cool going on then?

Lamp, Thursday, 26 September 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)

picturesque rather than life threatening ~weather~ iirc
& probably, i think montreal winter is pretty well catered for & enjoyable if it is just a momentary window in your otherwise sensibly climated life

schlump, Thursday, 26 September 2013 20:49 (twelve years ago)

varning (2-day hardcore punk fest) is that weekend lol

flopson, Thursday, 26 September 2013 21:15 (twelve years ago)

two weeks pass...

really appreciating this ambient chemtrails awareness campaign

schlump, Sunday, 13 October 2013 19:17 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I can think of about a half dozen people who might be responsible.

fields of salmon, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:24 (twelve years ago)

I'm getting worried by the number of condos being built around downtown and griffintown, for all kinds of reasons (urban, economic).

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

condo towers, i mean.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

i'm stoked for this one though https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/901941_468243749956328_13436519_o.jpg

flopson, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 23:56 (twelve years ago)

mtl doesn't have enough whatever that type of architecture is called imo

flopson, Thursday, 17 October 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

i remember going to vancouver & being wowed at a lot of individually ugly new apartment buildings looking really great clustered together with the backdrop of hills, i feel like having that kinda thing en masse is to some degree a prereq for it looking effective

schlump, Thursday, 17 October 2013 00:18 (twelve years ago)

Agreed, outside looking in Vancouver is somewhat nice. However, once you are inside those streets and the only thing around is ugly condo towers with deserted balconies, bleh.

This is not what Montreal is about, at all.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 17 October 2013 00:36 (twelve years ago)

Plus, they have a hard time selling those type of real estate in Toronto, I wonder how it fares in Montreal where you have plenty of cool appartments and houses in great neighborhood for insanely low prices.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 17 October 2013 00:37 (twelve years ago)

i bet they do great because people are like "FINALLY AN APARTMENT AS GAUDY AS THOSE ONES I BOUGHT IN TORONTO, BUT IN MONTREAL"

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Thursday, 17 October 2013 03:49 (twelve years ago)

vhs i thought you were moving to nyc to be with your beloved rangers

mookieproof, Thursday, 17 October 2013 04:19 (twelve years ago)

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 17 October 2013 04:20 (twelve years ago)

it isn't working out for now :(

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 17 October 2013 05:46 (twelve years ago)

idk if theres a specific thread for this but are there any good new restos in mtl that are worth going to? esp ones that wld be open on mondays?

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 06:55 (twelve years ago)

mondays is hard but ya there are lots of new places opening up all the time now! bethlehem xxx, impasto, the izakaya in sardine, uh... what else... you in town or planning on being here soon?

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 14:17 (twelve years ago)

saturday -

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

u can do way better than figaro! do brunch at lawrence or maison publique imo

also... have you been to APDC before? if so, i'd skip it in favour of something newer. their menu hasn't changed in 10 years.

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 14:45 (twelve years ago)

suggestions:
bethlehem (dinner)
nora gray (d)
vin papillon (joe beef's new wine bar)

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 14:46 (twelve years ago)

and prob more i'll remember when im more awake

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 14:46 (twelve years ago)

haha there really is nothing open there on a monday huh :/

i've been to apdc a coupla times but my partner hasnt and is really excited. we're also taking out some friends and its like 5 min from their place. bethlehem looks p good though, might try that for saturday

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:02 (twelve years ago)

yeah nothing wrong with that

and yeah mondays is hard. let me think what might be open. dinette triple crown is! pretty caj tho. but good food.

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:04 (twelve years ago)

dinette triple crown is the southern place? casual is good though! thanx for the rec's btw, i actually tried to go to lawrence last time i was in mtl on yr recommendation but it was too crowded. might give vieux velo a shot actually, if figaro isnt good.

also where is fun/cool to go dancing iye? we have a couple of things on friday/saturday but could use some good rec's

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:12 (twelve years ago)

vieux velo is nice

definitely try and do lawrence for brunch or dinner. it really is tip top. they do everything right.

ummm
in response to that last question im old :(

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

vieux velo is 100x better than figaro. So is Le Pick-up.

sofatruck, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

julieta (next to vieux velo on beaubien) has amazing breakfast. but vv rules, too. ndq, across the street from both of them & one block west, would be a good place to check out for dancing. not a huge dancefloor and sometimes not loud enough but can be very fun

flopson, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

You may see me and maybe even other ILX baseball fans for Mets v Jays at Stade Olympique on March 28-29. (No, these games don't count.)

thanx! also what are you up to that weekend? or do u have exams?

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:01 (twelve years ago)

Lamp if you're open to another Monday-night recommendation may I recommend Damas for a plate of good Syrian food. Or you could also do dinner at Lemeac that night, their best option imo is their after-10pm prix fixe and I think they're open Mondays

flamboyant goon tie included, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:05 (twelve years ago)

damas is great, as is their less expensive sister resto kaza maza

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:38 (twelve years ago)

good call on lemeac mondays too!

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:38 (twelve years ago)

That place was introduced to me as "the place you take fancy friends when their flight was late". Lamp please order the pain perdu it is extremely delicious and the size of a small child

flamboyant goon tie included, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:42 (twelve years ago)

no order the tartelette

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:54 (twelve years ago)

flamboyant if ilxor had avatars would you consider this one: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/archive/b/bf/20100710184530!Owzer.PNG?

my partner is pretty interested in prohibition for brunch so i think were gonna try the late nite menu @ lemeac and looks like we have dinner party invite for saturday so ty ilx for solving this hardship for me

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:59 (twelve years ago)

prohibition?

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

?

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:01 (twelve years ago)

byob

schlump, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:02 (twelve years ago)

dont know that place but like... have you heard good things about it? are you staying near there? its on monkland which is kind of hte other side of the city where the rest of the stuff you're doing is.

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)

:(

flamboyant goon tie included, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

that website has me very... Ô_o

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

haha isnt it beautiful. idk my partner had it highly recommended, im not that fussed abt brunch stuff as long as we have some ideas, i was just worried abt getting resos for dinner before places filled up, being too far is def a barrier but well see how we feel/how hungover we are

Lamp, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:17 (twelve years ago)

blurry brunch

mh, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:17 (twelve years ago)

i feel like going there is not going to be the best idea. go to maison publique or lawrence for brunch if you're not going to the latter for dinner. (or hell even if you are.)

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

listen to this wise man

flamboyant goon tie included, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

i ate at prohibition!!

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

tried a couple things on the menu but the only thing i would order again would be the... eggs benedict... hungarian... or something...? i can't remember. they were damned delicious.

if yr partner wants to go there, go :D just know that that meal is head & shoulders above at least 3 others...
