i fixed my email issues by deleting the accounts and adding them again from scratch on my phone. (using the tickboxes in itunes to replace my phone's info with the info from my computer's email settings didn't work)

i'm a bit miffed at that but on the other hand it's sort of nice to get down into the nitty gritty of a system, set things up, etc.; apple has gotten SO GOOD at seamlessly transferring info from one phone to another, etc, that there's very little thrill left in upgrading to a new phone - everything looks exactly the same, works exactly the same... so at least with a system upgrade there's that luxurious feeling of tinkering away with a bunch of new stuff

if i had to guess at their thinking here both of these are part of the larger plan of placing everything in the phone in a physical place, the background is behind everything else and it actually looks like that, the apps live inside the app icons like youre opening a little door and walking in rather than just being something that triggers a new unrelated screen, its generally pretty in line w the iphones interface being closer to literal than metaphoric, eg you dont move a mouse around you just touch the thing you want w yr finger, its p ingenious imho

i do get that, but the parallax is jerky and sputtery at best, and it works to enhance exactly nothing. at least the bungy zooming gives a prezi-alike sense of place.

the problem i have with this parallax thing is almost exactly the problem i have with 3d glasses—gimmickry is employed to tell you something that you already know. obviously the icons are 'in front' of the wallpaper because that's how the whole device works. (same with all the literal zooming, but to a leaser extent.)

followed the recommendations for prolonging battery life, seems to work for when the phone's at rest but using it still murders it. left it unplugged last night and had 100% at 830, now it's 10 and after using only google maps for an hour I'm down to 54%.

having got the shits with the battery life of every iphone ever, i bought an external recharge pack months ago and just live off that. ios 7 probably destroys my battery too, but i don't give it a chance to matter.

using the gps is pretty battery intensive in general

meanwhile my iphone 4 on ios6 is at 92%

my guess once people develop a mental image on a quasi subconscious level of ios as a 3d space these effects will improve usability, tho ur a tech dude who im sure is really good at using such things already so maybe it doesnt matter to you, but i think its super clever and subtle, lol everyone talking abt it being flat

tho i dont really understand being mad at parallax, its not very intrusive, most people dont even notice its there

in other news, my iphone 5 is at 27%. so, 4 hour battery life? awesome.

yeah i had to change wallpapers to something with a horizon before i was even able to understand it

my iPhone 5 life seems to have increased after the update, edward I bet if u run google maps on your 4 the battery life will also plummet

the complaints i'm hearing most are from people who are not tech minded at all. 'er indoors (only one example) cracked it because her ipad was suddenly doing some movement thing that she couldn't describe, but that had made her feel nauseous; and she had attributed her discomfort to the ~whole~ of ios 7 ('i really don't like that update you put on my ipad'). she never ever mentions her ipad, and she brought this up over dinner when we weren't even talking about ipads.

when i first noticed my phone springboard jiggling (the icon grid in relation to the screen, not the wallpaper in relation to the icon grid), i didn't even realise it was the parallax effect, and very genuinely thought i'd had too many tim tams that morning. it wasn't a subtle and pleasing effect, it was an aberrant jiggle that happened when i was barely moving the phone. it's only because i took comparative screenshots that i know the icons were moving. most users won't even know to do that much.

but eh, you're probably right in users just getting used to it.

They also reworked Bluetooth stuff like crazy. Devices that accept notifications can now get every Notification Center update.

Probably will be most visible in that car integration stuff they're pushing, but stuff like Pebble watches work with it.

Whoa, huge, huge improvement in battery life on iOS 7.

At 74% after 15 hours of more frequent use than typical, including a bunch of GPS. It had been going down to ~40% by afternoon on a work day w/ far less use.

Had just come onto the thread to see if anyone else had noticed a huge improvement in battery life.

i think i have. used it for hours today, only burned off 1/3 of the battery (iphone 5).

Mine's quite a bit worse now on my 4s I think. Down to 49% and I've only been up a couple of hours. Always bad when I'm using 3G heavily, I think.
