I just like that all these people think the post meant "Jesse is dead" rather than "something bad happened to Jesse" which is like every episode

" spoilers until after these episodes are on Netflix"

wtf that would be like a year, do they really think people will shut up about it until then? torrent it losers

akm, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:21 (twelve years ago)

Rule of thumb is that if you're in the thread itself, spoilers are open game. Outside the thread, and especially on another show's thread, spoilers are giant faux pas.

I'm dying to get on that Wire thread, but I can't. Not yet. Though I'm heavily betting that Nicky Sobotka is elected mayor of Baltimore City, but don't tell me I don't wanna know.

Just realized that Walt's abandoned car could potentially lead the cops back to the bodies, depending on how far he managed to get...

bert streb, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:51 (twelve years ago)

not sure if that has been said upthread but apparently final two episodes are 75 minutes each (60-ish minus ads?)

I don't have much to say for once, fairly speechless. Marie's grief face was harrowing - there's something harrowing about that look that she captured well; the revolting panic of despair. Aldo Hank's "You're the smartest man I know, but you're too stupid to realise that he made up his mind 10 minutes ago." really laid bare Walt's ignorance of the criminal that Hank was all too familiar with.

I wonder if Walt is trying to White Fang people he cares about? His confession of his role in Jane's death severs all ties between him and Jesse (okay, that make have already been done) and his psychopathic rant to Skylar with the cops listening may give her enough to argue that she was not criminally engaged in Walt's business. Either way, best TV I've seen in a long time

I have gathered no gaudy flowers of speech in other men's gardens (dowd), Friday, 20 September 2013 01:53 (twelve years ago)

I was under the impression that Walt knew the cops would be listening when he called Skylar, and that he was letting her off the hook

Not sure why he mentioned the Jane thing to Jesse (I didn't actually realise he had let her die). The obvious explanation would be that he was pissed off at Jesse for trying to set him up

paolo, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:10 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, spite.

I didn't actually realise he had let her die

! Such a crucial moment in Walt's development.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:16 (twelve years ago)

I think the Jane thing was pure twisting the knife in the wound. It'll come back to haunt him obviously.

Really want the next episode to be Jesse-heavy, he's been short changed a bit in this second half of the season because all he's got to do so far is run around being crazy.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:17 (twelve years ago)

Walt is not a fool, I can't see how he didn't realise the cops were on the line. He tries to be very careful, even if he's not as sly as he thinks he is.

I have gathered no gaudy flowers of speech in other men's gardens (dowd), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:17 (twelve years ago)

Yeah there wan an interview with the writer that was like "of course Walt knew cops were on the line and was giving a performance, how was that not obvious?" Iirc

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:24 (twelve years ago)

A writer on the show, not 'the' writer, I should say

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

how the hell else do you make sense of the tears during the rage if it *isn't* a performance

tears of joy as he's finally able to cut loose and tell Skyler she's such a bitch
- Team Walt

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Friday, 20 September 2013 15:08 (twelve years ago)

i think one way to get beyond the either/or thing with that phone call is to see it as Walt realizing that all of his self-justifications were self-delusions. Walt has been existing in an extreme state of disassociation to this point, and i think that call represents the moment when the walls crumble. whatever psychic defenses he had built up to do what he did are rendered moot when the whole justification ("family") collapses. so the totality of what he's done is finally made visible to him.

of course, the fact that he throws himself on his sword for skylar is in keeping with what he's done before, it is at least a small degree more selfless than he has been. anyway, this is why i see a Searchers style ending--walt redeemed by his own self-exclusion/damnation. if the problem all along has been HIM, than perhaps that's a problem he can really solve.

ryan, Friday, 20 September 2013 15:11 (twelve years ago)

I can't believe walt has manufactured illicit drugs on a large scale and committed myriad illegal acts, he seems like such a mild-mannered man.

conrad, Friday, 20 September 2013 15:13 (twelve years ago)

I don't understand how a thread is unwieldy. Just open it, bookmark the bottom, and never read what you've missed. The moment's passed.

this leads to people repeating the same things over and over endlessly and dropping "new" information that has been linked five times already

think maybe in the final episode "Heisenberg" becomes notorious and it sets off a marketing campaign of Heisenberg shirts,Heisenberg keychains, even a Heisenberg dance number, and it becomes this John Carpenter-esque commentary on 'capitalism, maaaaaaaan'

Neanderthal, Friday, 20 September 2013 16:51 (twelve years ago)

and as there's still not actually any solid evidence against walt he get to lord it up as a celeb for the rest of his day.
