I stood in line to get the 4 as a walk-in, thinking I'd be in line for 2 hours tops. I got there at... 7:30? and didn't actually get inside the store until noon. I will never, ever do that again.

Plus side, I ran into a buddy of mine who had just finished his dissertation for his doctorate in choral conducting and we spent the whole time making fun of ourselves for standing in that abysmal line.

Background app downloads are pretty poorly implemented. On the tube tonight was in a station with wifi for 1min, it started downloading a twitterrific update and obviously failed when the train moved on. Useless app for the rest of the journey.

imo only let it do those on wifi?

they're in the control panel, just swipe up from the bottom any time

as I said on Facebook, the color schemes and lines make me feel like they felt the overhaul was too powerful and made everything look like it was built with Duplo blocks to compensate

yeah me too. i dunno if this is actual or real but ever since i deleted most of my music and have about 5 gigs free, the battery life seems better

i also like the new swipe down for Spotlight, more practical than (click home button to switch to page 1, swipe left), just gotta remember not to swipe from the top which brings up Notification Center

now swipe right does nothing tho, i guess it cause its conditional on being on yr first screen, it does something if youre on a diff screen this way you can access search from wherever you are

battery life wasn't bad for me on the 5/ios6, since going to ios7 in june I've been doing two charges a day

oh you can put newsstand in a folder now

took me a minute to realize newsstand acts like an app and you have to click the home button to get away from it

what I mean by that was I was trying to click away from it or swipe out for 30 seconds on my iPad while thinking "oh no I am stuck in Newsstand forever"

the choice to make the camera app blur the shit out of whatever is in the view when you close it is uh interesting

replacing bars w dots is a big win for the infographic police

Passbook? The only uses I've had for it are a credit card thing that shows the last charge posted and plane tickets. Works well for plane tickets.

only prob is that it's usefulness is constrained by the fact you could just go to any individual app and see the same info. just not enough stuff to make it a useful hub in itself, yet

passbook is sweet for my american airlines gold status card /braggin

Cyclemeter, which I use every day when biking, is now utterly ridiculous looking after being updated for iOS7. Like, Microsoft Bob levels of silly.

i don't get it though - i got, for instance, the moviefone app, which is listed as a passbook app. but i open passbook and it just tells me to download more passbook apps?

something in moviefone, probably a movie ticket or something, would have to be sent to passbook

the point is if you have a boarding pass or coupon or ticket apps can send them all to passbook

you have to add things to passbook from the apps, which is dumb, but I guess I don't know how else to do it

I think the use case that hardly ever happens is you pull up your ticket to something and it'll stay on the lock screen now, so if you need to hand your phone to someone to scan stuff it's still locked

I used Passbook for the first time for our flight out of Paris and the attendant had no fucking clue how to process it and kept sternly asking us why we didn't get our boarding passes until I practically forced her to try scanning the QR code shown on the screen

I was really amused by the fact the Des Moines airport has scanners for QR tickets and they knew how to use them but the San Francisco airport forces paper tickets
