I stood in line to get the 4 as a walk-in, thinking I'd be in line for 2 hours tops. I got there at... 7:30? and didn't actually get inside the store until noon. I will never, ever do that again.

Plus side, I ran into a buddy of mine who had just finished his dissertation for his doctorate in choral conducting and we spent the whole time making fun of ourselves for standing in that abysmal line.

ugh

I am wondering if the online ordering with the "pick up at store" option will be enabled. Kind of doubt it, but if so I'll just be a dick by reserving one and going in tomorrow afternoon

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:27 (twelve years ago)

that is the best option tbh

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:28 (twelve years ago)

the new folders are boss u guys are crazy you can put AS MANY APPS AS YOU WANT in them

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:31 (twelve years ago)

why does parallax make all my current wallpapers look like poo

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:32 (twelve years ago)

should I break my wife's heart by replacing her picture with a dynamic wallpaper y/n

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

you can put AS MANY APPS AS YOU WANT in them

this is the best news i've heard about this update yet
brb gotta take my 23 games folders and put em in one

One burly voice screamed and that was one of many. (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

only 9 items per folder looks dummmm though

Euler, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

they did it cause you can only see 9 when the folder is closed

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:37 (twelve years ago)

this parallax shit seems kinda pointless but generally the layered concept is good

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)

its weird they havent even updated all their own apps yet, ibook still got that gloss

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

also i miss seeing my little magazines in the newsstand, that was cute

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

Killing apps from the switcher is the new Repair Permissions.

Background app downloads are pretty poorly implemented. On the tube tonight was in a station with wifi for 1min, it started downloading a twitterrific update and obviously failed when the train moved on. Useless app for the rest of the journey.

stet, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

imo only let it do those on wifi?

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:48 (twelve years ago)

that wouldn't solve stet's problem

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:49 (twelve years ago)

what happened to the audio controls when you swiped left after double home-button!!!?? GAHHHHHHH

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:49 (twelve years ago)

they're in the control panel, just swipe up from the bottom any time

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)

haha

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)

this is anything but intuitive

One burly voice screamed and that was one of many. (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:51 (twelve years ago)

once you get the swipe up for controls thing it's pretty easy

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

Ah OK thanks doods

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:55 (twelve years ago)

I fucking hate this Podcasts app they made me download.

polyphonic, Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:58 (twelve years ago)

that is a seriously busy control panel

anybody else getting a "mad men"/"man from u.n.c.l.e."/"catch me if you can" kind of vibe from the design?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 September 2013 17:59 (twelve years ago)

it does feel a lil mid century

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)

as I said on Facebook, the color schemes and lines make me feel like they felt the overhaul was too powerful and made everything look like it was built with Duplo blocks to compensate

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)

man that instagram app looks real dumb now sitting there all 3d like that

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:04 (twelve years ago)

v happy to be free of all that weird blue chrome, hallelujah

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:05 (twelve years ago)

tbh this has been my overall experience with the 5 so I basically go nowhere without a plug these days

yeah me too. i dunno if this is actual or real but ever since i deleted most of my music and have about 5 gigs free, the battery life seems better

乒乓, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:07 (twelve years ago)

oh lol, if you don't mind opening a line of credit, a way to get an off-contract phone and still not pay it all up front:

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)

i also like the new swipe down for Spotlight, more practical than (click home button to switch to page 1, swipe left), just gotta remember not to swipe from the top which brings up Notification Center

Nhex, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:19 (twelve years ago)

now swipe right does nothing tho, i guess it cause its conditional on being on yr first screen, it does something if youre on a diff screen this way you can access search from wherever you are

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:21 (twelve years ago)

battery life wasn't bad for me on the 5/ios6, since going to ios7 in june I've been doing two charges a day

a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:22 (twelve years ago)

oh you can put newsstand in a folder now

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:22 (twelve years ago)

took me a minute to realize newsstand acts like an app and you have to click the home button to get away from it

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:23 (twelve years ago)

what I mean by that was I was trying to click away from it or swipe out for 30 seconds on my iPad while thinking "oh no I am stuck in Newsstand forever"

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:29 (twelve years ago)

the choice to make the camera app blur the shit out of whatever is in the view when you close it is uh interesting

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:30 (twelve years ago)

replacing bars w dots is a big win for the infographic police

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 18:55 (twelve years ago)

passport still makes no goddamn sense, fyi

Nhex, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

i have never used that app

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:01 (twelve years ago)

Passbook? The only uses I've had for it are a credit card thing that shows the last charge posted and plane tickets. Works well for plane tickets.

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:02 (twelve years ago)

only prob is that it's usefulness is constrained by the fact you could just go to any individual app and see the same info. just not enough stuff to make it a useful hub in itself, yet

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:03 (twelve years ago)

passbook is sweet for my american airlines gold status card /braggin

Euler, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:04 (twelve years ago)

Cyclemeter, which I use every day when biking, is now utterly ridiculous looking after being updated for iOS7. Like, Microsoft Bob levels of silly.

Marlo Poco (Phil D.), Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:04 (twelve years ago)

i don't get it though - i got, for instance, the moviefone app, which is listed as a passbook app. but i open passbook and it just tells me to download more passbook apps?

Nhex, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:05 (twelve years ago)

something in moviefone, probably a movie ticket or something, would have to be sent to passbook

the point is if you have a boarding pass or coupon or ticket apps can send them all to passbook

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)

you have to add things to passbook from the apps, which is dumb, but I guess I don't know how else to do it

Euler, Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)

I think the use case that hardly ever happens is you pull up your ticket to something and it'll stay on the lock screen now, so if you need to hand your phone to someone to scan stuff it's still locked

beautifully, unapologetically plastic (mh), Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

I used Passbook for the first time for our flight out of Paris and the attendant had no fucking clue how to process it and kept sternly asking us why we didn't get our boarding passes until I practically forced her to try scanning the QR code shown on the screen

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Thursday, 19 September 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

I was really amused by the fact the Des Moines airport has scanners for QR tickets and they knew how to use them but the San Francisco airport forces paper tickets

It is twilight. You are living inside of a prism beam. You are slowly falling through a prism beam without worry and with a satiated stomach. http://www.theawl.com/2013/09/the-top-5-ios7-ringtones
