Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

guys what if Walt returns because he finds out that Walt Jr. is hooked on blue crystal

With all due respect, this one's right up there with the "what if his new identity is Hal Lambert with a son named Malcolm" theory.

now that you mention it, it is kinda crazy that answering machines have this whole feature of being able to listen while someone leaves a message and decide whether to pick up and nobody who makes smartphones has thought to let people do that. it'd be hugely popular!

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Tuesday, 17 September 2013 23:48 (twelve years ago)

That's because there's this thing on smartphones called Caller ID.

I've complained before about the answering machine, how it picks up so fast, and the fact that there isn't 6 seconds between the rings.

I also realize it's a television show.

while i don't think i have the commitment to do it myself, i'd love to see someone map out the evolution of the the white family's phone bills, and sketch out which characters call which phone

ran across this in the comments on one of the innumerable reviews of this episode and it seems kinda good actually:

My guess is Jesse makes his escape using the phosphine gas trick from Season 1 while cooking. We were already teased last week with Jack refusing to wear a mask in the cook room.

this is a really good idea imho, caller id serves roughly the same purpose but its really not the same

btw i feel no shame for this delightful stand-off in the desert, better use of time than rating how hot the characters are imo

"Dave Barlow" is the name Lou uses on sabermetrics baseball sites (s.clover), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 02:36 (twelve years ago)

just saw this ep, dag. It was like some feel bad horror movie condensed. I know they're setting Walt up for some sort of redemption, but I have no idea if that is even possible given what's transpired. I guess he can save Jesse, but that's not much consolation given he's a wanted criminal who is responsible for the deaths of many, had most of his fortune stolen, lost his entire family and oh yeah still has cancer.

Stuff with the nazis, I mean, like I said before, fuck a deus ex Nazi, but I suppose they exist in this show as a standard of true evil to Walt's conception of cerebral "rational" evil. They are truly remorseless. They don't have to scheme because they have no fears, unlike Walt.

serious answer: probably a serious audit and depending on how well skyler cooked the books and whose name the place is in, probably repo'd by the feds
although i forget: did they make a big deal about A1A being in skyler's name?

Hey did anyone catch walt's pants from the pilot laying out in desert as he rolled the barrel?

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 06:32 (twelve years ago)

I've forgotten why Walt didn't just put them back on again. I've never rewatched the first season.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 07:25 (twelve years ago)

I watched this again. When Todd comes to get Jesse from his cage Jesse's blubbering and saying something like "just go! just go there, you can get him! nobody knows! i swear, nobody knows but me and his partner!" What is he talking about? Maybe I misheard? I dunno, made me feel pretty Tuomas-y.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 09:07 (twelve years ago)

it's get 'it', not 'him' - before that he said that he told them where to get the tape (of his confession).

at first i thought 'his partner' meant marie but i suppose it meant gomie - so while marie's not exactly safe given what jesse's told them, i suppose he resisted the torture enough to not explicitly shop her in as someone in the know. skyler too.

Waluigi Nono (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 09:13 (twelve years ago)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

So Nazis are headed over to Marie's house right now?

Can also be read as a historical metaphor: an enlightened empire hires barbarian mercenaries to do its dirty work for it, only to be itself destroyed by the forces it has invited in.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 10:34 (twelve years ago)

So Nazis are headed over to Marie's house right now?

she will be so embarrassed when they turn up and she has nothing to offer them in the house, due to stressing out all day over hank.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 10:48 (twelve years ago)

"oh jack you are the living end..."

"marie, i'll level with you. this is the best quiche i've ever eaten."

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 10:49 (twelve years ago)

at first i thought 'his partner' meant marie but i suppose it meant gomie - so while marie's not exactly safe given what jesse's told them, i suppose he resisted the torture enough to not explicitly shop her in as someone in the know.

This is how I interpreted the scene too. Jesse doesn't want anyone else get hurt, so he's trying to convince the Nazis only Hank and Gomie knew about the tape.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:02 (twelve years ago)

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the authorities, as far as we know, still don't know about the meth. They were called because Walt attacked Skyler and took the baby. In his phone "confession," does he ever specifically say what he did, other than take the blame for it? Only police who knew were Hank and Goner, I mean Gomez.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:09 (twelve years ago)

I would assume Marie has told the cops everything and provided them with the Jesse tape...? After Hank's death, what reason would she have to hold back that information?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:17 (twelve years ago)

And in his phone call, Walt is clearly talking about something more than just kidnapping the baby and being an abusive husband in general. Doesn't he even mention that he took care of Hank, or something like that?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:19 (twelve years ago)

he mentions his "work" a lot.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:28 (twelve years ago)

He's always been really careful about never being specific. Lots of "take care of it" or "the same thing that happened to him will happen to you." And obv. Marie may have given them the tape after this ep., but she only finds out Hank is dead (by implication) at the end of the ep. I mean, I'm sure lots of stuff happened after the "end" of the last ep. We just have to wait and see.

Did they ever give an explanation as to why Hank told no one anything? Was it just pride?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:31 (twelve years ago)

Walt never even says Hank is dead, he says "you will never see him again" or something like that. It's like a moral tick of his, he can't ever make explicit the horrible things he's done.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:32 (twelve years ago)

Did they ever give an explanation as to why Hank told no one anything? Was it just pride?

fear over the tape. fear over exposing his medical bill shit etc without enough evidence to actually get walt.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:33 (twelve years ago)

like he basically needed to set walt up otherwise there was no case.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:33 (twelve years ago)

He's always been really careful about never being specific. Lots of "take care of it" or "the same thing that happened to him will happen to you." And obv. Marie may have given them the tape after this ep., but she only finds out Hank is dead (by implication) at the end of the ep.

When the cops are in the house tracing Walt's call, I assume some time has passed between that scene and Walt's escape. We see that Marie already knows about Hank's death, so Skyler has told him about it before that scene. I can't really see any reason why, after finding out that Hank's dead, Marie wouldn't have told the cops everything she knows about Walt and Jesse, since Hank's career was the only reason they kept the whole thing secret in the first place.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 11:41 (twelve years ago)

Anyway, it's telling he calls Marie in the desert first and not, you know, other cops. It was pride that put that off, since they had proof to put Walt away already.
