i'd say it's the distance an explanation creates between you + the subject. if i asked you how water boils and you told me how heat affects water + the principles underlying it that would have more lifting power than saying "science." i'm suggesting that when ppl explain something by saying "patriarchy" they're basically saying "science."

I would like to hear Mordy explain how men being mostly in charge of the film industry isn't related to the number of men in older roles versus the number of women. Or at the least, how societal ideas about the value of individuals linked to age has to do with their perceived attractiveness for women but not for men, but it has nothing to do with patriarchy.
