Thirties are awesome, but its definitely way more intense than my twenties were. In a good way.
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 17 September 2013 00:52 (twelve years ago)
so far my 30s have been about diminishing possibilities and the reality of crushing financial burden and lack of mobility settling in even as i try to ignore it with less and less success. on the plus side i love somebody.

I want to go back and slap 2008 me and shout BUY A FLAT YOU NINNY.
Dear 2009 me, don't buy a nice flat in a good location, buy a horrible tiny house in a crap location for 10% more, because in 2017 the flat will be worth 20% more (maybe soon 20% less as they are building a giant tower of cheap flats opposite) and the house will have doubled in value and you are never going to get a house nowwww
(actually maybe don't, I love my flat, but still, I would also love a garden and not to be able to hear my downstairs neighbours sneezing, and they would probably love not to hear all the things I do which are louder than sneezing which I don't even want to think about)
...This thread has made me realise I don't know where time has gone since approx Aug 2011, there were probably some things I should've done in that time but it seems suspiciously like I haven't done anything at all
― a passing spacecadet, Friday, 17 February 2017 15:20 (nine years ago)
I'm 35 and sorry I missed this thread during peak breakdancing, and except for getting into jazz, Steely Dan, and Yes, things are about like they were circa 27ish, though more of my friends now make more money than I do, making me seem more like an underachieving bozo - living with roommates, staying up late, and meanwhile nursing roughly the same rolling midlife crisis as ten years ago. More of the people I was carrying torches for have gotten married or at least engaged. My hair and outfits are maybe a little cooler, and I consume substances I didn't back then. Probably I'm a bit more emotionally mature and I think I'm a better listener and partner. My days still seem to slip away from me often; I blame ILX but this place is often worth it.
― tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Friday, 17 February 2017 15:22 (nine years ago)
My 30s are like a decade-long shit snaking off into the horizon. Trying to think of what I have to show for it beyond an explosion of white amidst what little hair I have left.
― Donkeysauce McFannypack (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 February 2017 15:24 (nine years ago)
Although I realize self-assessment induces more of a shrug than the panic and dread that it used to, so I suppose that's growth of a sort.
― Donkeysauce McFannypack (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 February 2017 15:27 (nine years ago)
If you don't yet practice good posture, this is the decade when that will come back to haunt you and all thoughts of future breakdancing will become a cruel joke.
― how's life, Friday, 17 February 2017 15:30 (nine years ago)
Srsly, enjoy your joints before they start popping and locking independent of your conscious intent.
― Donkeysauce McFannypack (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 February 2017 15:34 (nine years ago)
Ha actually that has been something different, posture awareness! After a very ugly back incident four years ago, and somewhat-under-control shoulder trouble, both stemming from decades of using computers in moronic ways.
― tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Friday, 17 February 2017 15:36 (nine years ago)
getting an office job has improved my posture - getting the seat & screen positioned just so means I'm in a decent position all day. I occasionally feel it in my neck/shoulders a bit but it's very minor and my lower back feels drastically better
― ogmor, Friday, 17 February 2017 16:02 (nine years ago)
Doing the little stretch/yoga type exercises they gave me after my big back incident has been key. Would also help if I could get myself to stick to a gym routine, and especially if I had convenient access to a pool and swam a few laps a week.

― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Saturday, 18 February 2017 02:04 (nine years ago)
or perhaps this one would be more to the point -- although it is now touched by sadness, bcz the OP was bimble.
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Saturday, 18 February 2017 02:16 (nine years ago)
The only difference between my early-mid 30s and my 20s is that everyoen I know is married and has kids. I'm still living like a degenerate, but with a corporate job, so life's not even wild, it's just mismanaged. I'm healthier than I was in my teens and 20s, so that's cool, and I still have most of my hair, so that's pretty cool, too. I'm starting to give into the groove, so I have pretty good feelings for the future. I just never thought I'd live this far.
The one weird thing about getting older is the weight of memory and experience. It feels like this mental exhaustion, and makes me understand why some people would want to die in their old age. I feel like my life is just starting now , but man, I don't get how people like Peter Thiel could drink the blood of illegal immigrant children and male prostitutes he hires off Craigslist to become immortal. I guess you'd have to be the kind of person to do that to do that.
