fucking boxing man
How that could be judged a draw is insane.
― EZ Snappin, Sunday, 15 September 2013 05:26 (twelve years ago)
i didn't think canelo looked bad but every time he started to get something going it just felt like mayweather was toying w/ him.

I think the 116-112 and 117-111 cards were fine.

"Just because a judge's scorecard ends up even, doesn't mean the judge necessarily thought the fight as a whole was even," Kizer told USA Today. "It could be that a judge has six rounds for each fighter, but the six rounds she gave fighter A, she gave them to him easily and the six rounds she gave fighter B, they were really close rounds.” “That's pretty much how it was last night. I understand why there's criticism, because people think of the entire fight and think Mayweather was certainly the better fighter, so how can you have a draw? The answer is the scoring system."

bummed I missed this for being at work, hoping to catch an on-demand when I get home - it sounds great. I like Alvarado real well but Provodnikov is just a force and it sounds like this fight was a lot of fun

Raekwon rapped for Quillin during the ringwalk just now but the Showtime crew talked over it :(

bullshit call & bullshit cards on the Quillin fight. Hopkins up now. Ringwalking with his new nick "the Alien" in full effect, green mask & trim on black robe.
― combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:45 (twelve years ago)
Hopkins is getting hit way too much by this caliber of opponent, should retire
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 27 October 2013 03:35 (twelve years ago)
That fight made me sad.

Julie Lederman giving Murat only one round is terrible, first bad scorecard I've seen from her.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 27 October 2013 03:42 (twelve years ago)
Murat was game I thought - I don't know, I have a lot of love for Hopkins but it's frustrating to me how good he is at getting away with cheating and I felt like Smoger was being pretty "eh, what can you do, it's Bernard" about it. Still I don't feel sad to watch Bernard fight. I like watching a guy even older than me go 12 rounds and still be throwing real punches in the 12th, and he gives some of the best post-fight interviews ever. Dementia pugilistica's is horrible for sure but idk where I'm at in life right now I'm like "you're gonna grow old and die anyway and it's gonna suck, you should do the things you want even if they make the end harder," I know that's not the most rational position (and I don't know Hopkins's financials; it's sad when a guy keeps boxing because he needs the money even though he's too old and he's getting beat up) but...he's winning, he's shoring up an actual place in the history of the sport that remade his life

this is something i have discussed with someone i know who is acquainted with a lot of the major uk boxing people
condlusion something like if you're the sort of person who is amenable to the 'you already have a few million and no parkinsonism yet' line of reasoning you probably won't have the temperament to be a great boxer
― Paraoxonases in Inflammation, Infection, and Toxicology (nakhchivan), Sunday, 27 October 2013 12:25 (twelve years ago)
david haye an example of a good not remotely great boxer who hasn't got hit that much and would doubtless rather be whoring himself on the after dinner circuit than changing that
― Paraoxonases in Inflammation, Infection, and Toxicology (nakhchivan), Sunday, 27 October 2013 12:27 (twelve years ago)
I don't think Hopkins should retire for his health, I think he should retire because if he actually fought Stevenson or Kovalev he'd get embarrassed.

scandalous reffing
boxing is stupid

Rios's team actually making fun of Freddie Roach's Parkinson's syndrome to his face today and one of 'em kicked Freddie in the stomach, big to-do about it
I liked Rios but he kept RTing shit about how hilarious Freddie's Parkinson's is so now I hope Manny knocks him out though realistically...Rios is basically Manny 8 years ago and can eat a whole lot of punches waiting for his moment
― combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 24 November 2013 00:34 (twelve years ago)
That decision was pish. Still reckon Froch wouldve won tho,Groves was fucked.

didnt see rios-pac but im glad pac won decisively - he needed to. my fantasy is he walks through bradley, jmm and floyd in that order and then retires
― http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD7PvtbkH0I (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 25 November 2013 02:49 (twelve years ago)
that would be so rad but he is very much not the Pac of old. he boxed more than I've ever seen really and he didn't turn on the FINISH HIM style really hardly at all. it was really something watching him continually moving to the right - Rios didn't know how to deal with it because both of them are usually stand-and-swing dudes but it's clear Roach has retooled Pac's style. think Floyd's been successful in his "at all costs, find a way to put Pac off til he's older" strategy

does he have a graph with his anticipated decline curve offset against manny's and is waiting for the biggest gap

or wait was the subtitle added later even so
Marcos Maidana beat the hell out of Adrian Broner last night. Knocked him down twice and delivered the most dramatic intentional headbutt I've seen in a while - which Broner earned, imo, he was holding Maidana's arms tight to buy time. On the undercard Soto-Karass couldn't put it together at all against Keith Thurman but Thurman is a truly outstanding fighter in my opinion, there's not a lot of people who'll look like much against him. He hasn't faced anybody of note yet but he's gone through everybody they put in front of him and I think he'd beat Robert Guerrero decisively. However he's the mandatory challenger for Maidana now and I really don't think he's ready for that, Maidana's got a huge arsenal of tools - last night he came in charging, boxed going forward, boxed on the ropes, just looked great. Broner's record isn't exactly littered with big names but I think he's better than his detractors say - still, Maidana exposed that B can't really think under real pressure. Honestly I think after he got knocked down in the second round he never fully recovered, fighters with a "never been knocked down" badge are setting themselves up for failure when the day comes
