Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 12 September 2013 17:16 (twelve years ago)

maybe to make Saul more sympathetic for the spin off they'll have him save the day

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 12 September 2013 17:21 (twelve years ago)

crazy right

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 September 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

I guess I can see it working if there's a revolving assortment of funny/fucked-up clients and Saul is constantly putting out different fires. if they can maintain that balance of humor and "oh shit" moments that BB does best then it would be awesome, but I'm not really interested in learning more about Saul's backstory or personal life I don't think.

wk, Thursday, 12 September 2013 17:23 (twelve years ago)

who will be his niles

@twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Thursday, 12 September 2013 17:31 (twelve years ago)

Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer.

surely there was a way to write a less confusing sentence containing this information.

Are they going to make Odenkirk ten years younger somehow.

anything other than this will be stupid, would be my guess. I mean, this kind of thing sort of writes itself.

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 12 September 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

I was kind of hoping Saul and Huell would relocate to Panama or somewhere for the spinoff. Prequel talk could be a smokescreen to avoid spoilering his fate.

I wonder if they'll show us Saul as a cute kid with a pet Jar Jar Binks

saw Odenkirk IRL a few weeks ago (he said hello to me in the queue for the men's room at UCB) and they're already younging him up plenty so

prequel can't have huell. maybe the prequel talk did spoil his fate? can't have a sequel if he dies.

wk, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:00 (twelve years ago)

man if they actually have a half-hour sitcom style show with gus fring prancing through...

da croupier, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)

"hi, audience, you might remember me with my face ripped off, but today i'm mad at saul for these dancing girls in my house!!!"

da croupier, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:03 (twelve years ago)

i really have a hard time imagining they're going to kill a character and then offer us his wacky hi-jinks before things got ugly

da croupier, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:04 (twelve years ago)

ha no that would be amazing come on

da croupier, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:06 (twelve years ago)

Didn't Mike work for Saul at the beginning, as well as Gus? Hope it's set in pre-Heisenberg ABQ, with Saul and Mike in wacky hi-jinks situations with Gale and Wendy and Chow.

brio, Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:06 (twelve years ago)

yes, more Wendy

6 Tuesdays on every Tuesday. This is called dumpy pants. (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:52 (twelve years ago)

actually maybe they could have huell in there. he didn't work for saul yet but maybe they knew each other. maybe he was a client!

wk, Thursday, 12 September 2013 21:09 (twelve years ago)

I wonder if it would be better off as an hour-long show with elements of BB than a 30-min comedy - a series-long story arc and some twists and turns. More laughs, but still really dark. Might make sense too if they approached it like Brit TV as built to last 1-2 seasons max and get out before it gets stale.

Feels like they're in trouble if it feels anything like a traditional sit-com - but maybe I'm wrong and need to make a clean break, and avoid comparisons to BB's structure as much as possible.

brio, Thursday, 12 September 2013 21:14 (twelve years ago)

I am hoping for a theme song with slap bass like Seinfeld's

Clay, Thursday, 12 September 2013 21:43 (twelve years ago)

i know - wishful thinking

brio, Thursday, 12 September 2013 21:47 (twelve years ago)

just seems that Breaking Bad's greatest strength is that it was always been building toward a defined end point - so follows to me that a minor, scaled back BB spinoff could share that and build momentum the same way, but not sure people are going to want to stick around for 5 or 6 seasons to get there.

brio, Thursday, 12 September 2013 22:04 (twelve years ago)

If it's good enough they will.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Thursday, 12 September 2013 22:07 (twelve years ago)

fair enough - it totally could be

brio, Thursday, 12 September 2013 22:11 (twelve years ago)

Obviously it has to be good in its own right and bring new ideas to the table, not just play on people's fondness for BB (cf Star Wars prequels).
