I don't think they've built a cheap iPhone because it'd yoke them into supporting more iOS versions or holding on to support for old hardware in old iOS versions and backward compatibility and supporting multiple platforms is the largest sinkhole in software development

People get so invested in declaring every Apple product a failure before it's even gone on sale. I don't think they've actually had a massive sales disappointment in a long time (did the iPad mini sell ok?) but people keep biting away at them -- the haters are as bad as the fanbois.

And a lot of the press and "expert" commentary is so tainted on both ends because the stock is so heavily followed -- i.e. there are a lot of people hoping to make money on them either succeeding or failing.

ya lots of people speculating all these new phones aimed squarely at asia

regardless i do think its kinda an interesting move at a time when all phones are p much low key and black slab looking things, there def used to be more variety of colors and whimsy before smartphones

apparently china taiwan japan and singapore all getting the new phones at the u.s. release date for the first time this year

I still have that purple imac sitting on a desk in our guest room. It's pretty much just a gigantic paper weight at this point though.

American 5S and 5C iPhones on Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile can now access each other's LTE. And I was all set to go with Sprint, which can't use LTE anywhere in Canada, or in the US anywhere but on their fledging LTE network - and Sprint's 3G is s-l-o-w.

is it just me or is there a subplot behind this rollout where T-Mobile is trying super hard to eat Sprint's lunch

Part of what made the design of those iMacs so striking wasn't just the color but the fact that it was this all-in-one, space age plastic TV looking thing, when everything else was a big cumbersome monitor hooked up to a separate big cumbersome CPU.

next year we will probably get an all clear iphone

It doesn't work like that, you only roam on to another carrier's coverage if you have zero t-mobile signal of any sort

So you'd get t-mobile 3g or even 2g before it'd roll over to AT&T
