Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

So it would have been bad had they flashed their meth dealer IDs, then?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:07 (twelve years ago)

I wondered about this, too. My guess is that there was some suspicion on the nazis' part as to whether or not Hank and Gomie were rival meth dealers looking to snag Walt for their own operation.

either way tho, their reaction prob the same, shoot them? like knowing they're cops doesn't really change that, does it?

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:10 (twelve years ago)

The Nazi's likely assumed that Gomie and Hank were part of Jesse's kill team, as mentioned

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:12 (twelve years ago)

yeah but why would they want to see id to prove they weren't, when it was dea id they asked about?

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I mean, I was thinking that maybe they'd just leave if they saw badges -- best not to shoot cops, lest it jeopardize the operation -- but the idea that they'd accept badges at face value is equally silly.

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:23 (twelve years ago)

Maybe the Nazis are deep, deep, deep undercover agents.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

I just presumed that reaching for their badges would be a good opportunity to open fire.

I have gathered no gaudy flowers of speech in other men's gardens (dowd), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)

yeah that's the only explanation i could think of.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

lol at the idea that they'd walk away if they saw badges.

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:29 (twelve years ago)

I know, as soon as I thought that (as I was watching the episode) I realized how ridiculous it was. "Ah! Well, then! We'll just be on our way!"

But who shot first? Was it the nazis?

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:30 (twelve years ago)

i agree, it was all likely a bluff

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:37 (twelve years ago)

lol at the idea that they'd walk away if they saw badges.

not walk away, they said "give ourselves up" - bigger lol.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:39 (twelve years ago)

Brock and his zombie buddies dead-drugdealing-brother and dead-scooter-kid will roll up at the last second and diffuse the situation with a giant laser blaster that turns ppl into small kittens

this is the only explanation that makes sense.

bear with me here, but i thought walt killed brock with the ricin/lily of valley stuff in that one series? (i was heavily codeined up while watching that season)

NI, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:08 (twelve years ago)

oh NI. No he just poisoned him with a little lotv

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:08 (twelve years ago)

It was all perfectly justified because he had to protect his family.

just rewatched this, it improved on a second viewing though the obvious transparency of "yep, we sure did fix everything" drawn out coda of hank's arrest and subsequent phone call to marie is hella lame. And yeah, the acting in general in this ep seems somewhat more sophomoric than per usual and things like walt's cell phone confession seemed a bit out of character. On the other hand, I really dig that we're being led to believe that the last time walt sees his wife and kids is that moment at the carwash, framed by windowshade slat in the shape of prison bars. Cranston's abject horror and reversion away from badass heisenberg to fumbling walt at the moment he loses it all is impressive acting.

The new New Yorker Cranston profile is worth a read. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/09/16/130916fa_fact_friend

Gilligan says in that piece that he thinks that the next episode (6 of 8) is his favorite of the entire series. Given the amount of setup that's gone down, I'm finally expecting payoff.

One burly voice screamed and that was one of many. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:18 (twelve years ago)

Do we know anything about the Madrigal dude who killed himself at the start of S5? Presumably Gilligan knew where he was going by then so it might still have some relevance.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)

lol at the idea that they'd walk away if they saw badges.

any GOOD COP would totally have already called in the goddamn cavalry, so presumably a badge would prove that a few squad cars were on the way. so yeah, i think they would have walked away.

still totally flummoxed at how hank and gomie didn't call in their position. i guess they didn't want to be caught "off the reservation" so to speak? bad move.

this is a neat article on breaking bad being a great medical drama

You never get what you expect with this show. I'm banking on the next episode being a lighthearted bottle episode like the fly one.

U-S-A! U-S-A!

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)

a lighthearted bottle episode like the fly one

light-hearted??? that episode was intense

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)

theres no way with 3 episodes left they can do a bottle episode. can they?

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)

no way imo

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:24 (twelve years ago)

*crossing fingers the final episode will all take place in the darkened room of Walt's mind*

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:30 (twelve years ago)

turns out that mild-mannered teacher Walt visited the Black Lodge at some point?

oh man now i'm wondering if this will be some kind of "gunfight? what gunfight?" calm before the storm with walt jr eating breakfast or marie going shopping. could see gilligan being giddy about that.

da croupier, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:47 (twelve years ago)

then come back the sunday after this one with a bullet in hank's head

da croupier, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)

Thinking about Todd being all calm and polite with the Nazi family reminded me that it looked like he had a tattoo on his right index finger when he was staring at Lydia's lipstick-stained coffee mug. I paused it on the scene but couldn't make out what it was, was curious if it's some sort of polite, understated white pride icon.

Also, why is Brock so terrified of Walt? Is it some "young innocent sees the true monster" type thing, or a vestige of his poisoning?

joygoat, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

Brock's always been v quiet. Maybe initially to help emphasise how good with kids Jesse is.

Waluigi Nono (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:55 (twelve years ago)

well we never found out exactly how walt poisoned him.

yeah i agree.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)

I don't even think it needs to be addressed. Bringing up something that happened seasons ago to give yet more weight to Jesse's belief that Walt is vile and has to be destroyed?

da croupier, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 17:07 (twelve years ago)

what if the scene ends with people trying to get the money and it's gone

yr right they would never bring back something from a while back that would give fuel to Jesse's anghttp://images.wikia.com/breakingbad/images/2/2a/Ricin_cigarette.jpg

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 17:12 (twelve years ago)

that point is that, having done that, they don't need to do it again

dmr, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

why do it again
xxxp

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

plus the ricin cigarette has been consistently kept in the picture ever since he put it together (ie, the first episode of this season, etc.)

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 17:14 (twelve years ago)

aero, i didn't say they wouldn't do it, i said it's not something they need to do.

i like how the formatting made your non-point even more dramatic.
