Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

He's got the horn-rimmed glasses in the flashforward. Are we to presume he never gets his wire-frames back after they fell off in the car?

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 05:32 (twelve years ago)

Wait, why do the nazis have so many bullets? They were just supposed to kill Jesse; how is it they're armed for a prolonged firefight?

You may remember all the way back to the most recent episode, Walt phones them and says there are three people.

What do people reckon was the deal with the Nazis asking for ID? Just a ruse to get the drop on Hank/Gomie and shoot them? I'm not really thinking they'd all just roll over once they see they're really DEA.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 06:44 (twelve years ago)

yeah from the sopranos to this shows so many 'conventions' related to with death have been thrown out. I wouldn't base anything on that. please join us here in 2013, Tuomas.

People keep saying this, but I'm not sure if it really applies to BB, as far as I can tell it has been following the conventions of tragedy/tragicomedy pretty neatly. Or if you think BB has defied the conventions of character death, can you tell me how exactly has it done that? For example, when it comes to the timing of characters dying, every "big" death (Krazy-8, Tuco, Gale, Gus) has happened towards the end of an episode, as its climax. I do agree conventions have been defied when it comes to smaller things (such as Hank not getting shot immediately after his phone call to Marie), but with major storytelling tropes, BB is still fairly conventional.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 07:08 (twelve years ago)

u guys hank and gomie are pretty obviously gonna be dead c'mon

Clay, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 07:13 (twelve years ago)

Whether he dies or not, Hank's chances of returning as expected with Walt arrested are basically zero. So Marie will be freaking out, straight to the car wash or to the actual DEA but either way that's the absolute end for Walt's family.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 08:51 (twelve years ago)

well, the end is obv going to happen, but not sure marie would go to the carwash.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 08:52 (twelve years ago)

Yeah she'll probably go to the police first.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 09:12 (twelve years ago)

Maybe not right away though. Hank said he'd be awhile.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 09:20 (twelve years ago)

She'll be making his favourite dinner and booking them a round-the-world cruise.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 09:29 (twelve years ago)

Stealing him something special for later.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 09:49 (twelve years ago)

Part of his rage at Walt must be due to his own guilt about funding Pollos Hermanos on the regular.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 10:05 (twelve years ago)

I see room for Avenging Marie here. If Hank and Gomie are dead then Walt vs. Surprisingly Formidable Enemy Marie + Jesse could be a thing

some sort of crippling wound that keeps him from speaking the truth (like hector salamanca)

The mental picture of Hank in a wheelchair furiously ringing a bell has brightened my day, kudos

Vinnie, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:49 (twelve years ago)

You may remember all the way back to the most recent episode, Walt phones them and says there are three people.

Ah, didn't catch that.

What do people reckon was the deal with the Nazis asking for ID? Just a ruse to get the drop on Hank/Gomie and shoot them? I'm not really thinking they'd all just roll over once they see they're really DEA.

I wondered about this, too. My guess is that there was some suspicion on the nazis' part as to whether or not Hank and Gomie were rival meth dealers looking to snag Walt for their own operation.

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:05 (twelve years ago)

So it would have been bad had they flashed their meth dealer IDs, then?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:07 (twelve years ago)

I wondered about this, too. My guess is that there was some suspicion on the nazis' part as to whether or not Hank and Gomie were rival meth dealers looking to snag Walt for their own operation.

either way tho, their reaction prob the same, shoot them? like knowing they're cops doesn't really change that, does it?

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:10 (twelve years ago)

The Nazi's likely assumed that Gomie and Hank were part of Jesse's kill team, as mentioned

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:12 (twelve years ago)

yeah but why would they want to see id to prove they weren't, when it was dea id they asked about?

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I mean, I was thinking that maybe they'd just leave if they saw badges -- best not to shoot cops, lest it jeopardize the operation -- but the idea that they'd accept badges at face value is equally silly.

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:23 (twelve years ago)

Maybe the Nazis are deep, deep, deep undercover agents.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

I just presumed that reaching for their badges would be a good opportunity to open fire.

I have gathered no gaudy flowers of speech in other men's gardens (dowd), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)

yeah that's the only explanation i could think of.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

lol at the idea that they'd walk away if they saw badges.

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:29 (twelve years ago)

I know, as soon as I thought that (as I was watching the episode) I realized how ridiculous it was. "Ah! Well, then! We'll just be on our way!"

But who shot first? Was it the nazis?

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:30 (twelve years ago)

i agree, it was all likely a bluff

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:37 (twelve years ago)

lol at the idea that they'd walk away if they saw badges.

not walk away, they said "give ourselves up" - bigger lol.

bear with me here, but i thought walt killed brock with the ricin/lily of valley stuff in that one series? (i was heavily codeined up while watching that season)

just rewatched this, it improved on a second viewing though the obvious transparency of "yep, we sure did fix everything" drawn out coda of hank's arrest and subsequent phone call to marie is hella lame. And yeah, the acting in general in this ep seems somewhat more sophomoric than per usual and things like walt's cell phone confession seemed a bit out of character. On the other hand, I really dig that we're being led to believe that the last time walt sees his wife and kids is that moment at the carwash, framed by windowshade slat in the shape of prison bars. Cranston's abject horror and reversion away from badass heisenberg to fumbling walt at the moment he loses it all is impressive acting.

The new New Yorker Cranston profile is worth a read. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/09/16/130916fa_fact_friend

Gilligan says in that piece that he thinks that the next episode (6 of 8) is his favorite of the entire series. Given the amount of setup that's gone down, I'm finally expecting payoff.

One burly voice screamed and that was one of many. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:18 (twelve years ago)

Do we know anything about the Madrigal dude who killed himself at the start of S5? Presumably Gilligan knew where he was going by then so it might still have some relevance.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)

lol at the idea that they'd walk away if they saw badges.

any GOOD COP would totally have already called in the goddamn cavalry, so presumably a badge would prove that a few squad cars were on the way. so yeah, i think they would have walked away.

still totally flummoxed at how hank and gomie didn't call in their position. i guess they didn't want to be caught "off the reservation" so to speak? bad move.

You never get what you expect with this show. I'm banking on the next episode being a lighthearted bottle episode like the fly one.
