i'd guess the charlie rose bit is him interviewing someone close to walt after it's uncovered he's heisenberg and he's on the lam. seems pretty clear from beginning of the second half of this season it's common knowledge who he was (spray painting on the wall with his name, house condemned). i could see walter flipping channels in some beat up hotel and coming to Marie/Skyler/etc. being interviewed about what it was like not knowing someone dear to them was secretly cooking meth/building a drug empire/was what he did for his family worth it/etc.
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 9 September 2013 23:02 (twelve years ago)
It could be a Charlie Rose bit about something unrelated to what's happening, but which causes an effect on something i.e. a TV report about the lottery links the idea of the lottery to the coordinates or something. Unlikely (not thought out idea), just wanted to point out that it didn't have to be anything specific about the case. And I don't know who Charlie Rose is...

― johnny crunch, Monday, 9 September 2013 23:33 (twelve years ago)
I mean it's good but it's all forward motion, doesn't feel like there's a lot of subtlety or subtexts to be teased out by repeated viewings, it's pretty narrow in its scope.
― what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier)
Doesn't have the thematic subtleties of say the Sopranos, but the virtuosity of the narrative construction is just as if not more impressive second time round. I plan to watch the whole thing through again in about five years.

yeah I watched the back half of S2 and most of S3 recently and there were a lot of things I picked up on the second time around. knowing where things are going provides an added dimension, you can better admire the scenery when you're not getting whipped around by the breakneck turns of fortune.

i am just butting in here & can't get at the answers behind the most recent Click here toload thing right now, so sorry if I am syndicating last night's insta-responses, but can I just say I thought it was neat how greedily the writers played with cliched foreboding language in hank's dialogue catching walt & calling marie, just life zero restraint, each line another dagger, even It Might Be Awhile Til I'm Home, just how playful it is to roll this out verbatim to an audience so tense
― @twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 03:07 (twelve years ago)
maybe it'll turn out to be accurate. hank gets home, but it's going to be a while. some kind of long, drawn out standoff/hostage situation type thing. that might make national news.

i'm gonna be so mad, btw, if this Charlie Rose thing actually pans out at all
― Nhex, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 04:06 (twelve years ago)
because that is the most boring spoiler ever
maybe one way or another everyone who's in this shootout basically disappears, which i suppose could wind up as a national story - but the only people who could give any information about what was going on to lead to this are: marie, skyler and saul
saul would totally go on all the tv shows

I bet Huell is sitting in the safe house just watching Charlie Rose
― wk, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 05:12 (twelve years ago)
man, watching that behind the scenes makes me really sad I couldn't hack it in the production world. making moving pictures in the desert is so fuckin' fun.
clearly Charlie Rose plays Saul's brother, is incidental to the plot, and only serves to set up his recurring character in the spin-off.

I don't know why anyone thinks they have enough knowledge of Huell's character to confidently say he wouldn't crack in that situation. Saul isn't hiring bodyguards for their brains and we haven't seen Huell in any situation when he hasn't been pretty much the fat clown.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 08:32 (twelve years ago)
The only thing I'm not quite buying is why Walt would have ordered a hit on Jesse in the first place, he's obviously a liability for him but Walt is arrogant enough to still believe in his powers of persuasion here. Walt bottling the hit makes a lot more sense obviously and I'm prepared to forgive them when it sets up a cliffhanger like that.
Walt fucked up SO many times in this episode. If only he'd noticed that Jesse was calling him "Walt" and not "Mr White" on the phone, he'd have known something was up.
From the moment Hank called Marie I'm sure everyone in the world knew what was about to happen and I genuinely expected to see him gunned down by the end of the episode.
Jesse is obviously the person in the best position here given he's in the car and not handcuffed, and we know Walt gets away. Otherwise holy shit.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 08:36 (twelve years ago)
apologies if this has already been floated - but the Nazis could capture Jessie and force him to cook (he'll give them the blue tint they want)
― Ward Fowler, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:23 (twelve years ago)
yeah i feel like they're going to have a meth slave at the end of this, not sure why it wouldn't be walt though, i guess it depends who escapes.
― Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:25 (twelve years ago)
It's probably more likely to be Walt given that he's handcuffed in the car. They'd have to kill both Hank and Gomie for that to happen and having Hank gunned down by a load of Nazi dudes would feel like a cheap end for the character.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:42 (twelve years ago)
yeah jesse is significantly less handcuffed than walt.
― Clay, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:46 (twelve years ago)
a load of Nazi dudes
you mean Jack and his men. he does have a name.
― Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:46 (twelve years ago)
I apologise for wronging the Nazis.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:47 (twelve years ago)
also it is weird to me that the final level boss fight bad guys of breaking bad are nazis. feel like it's weird that everybody is just like "okay there's nazis now." i mean i know they were there at the end of last season but the sudden nazi prominence seems weird to me!
― Clay, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:50 (twelve years ago)
The final level Boss Fight guy is Walt, the Nazis are just the guys doing his dirty work. Obviously Walt is also the hero at the same time, that's kind of why this show is great.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:53 (twelve years ago)
I had to correct you, who knows what would have happened if I stood by and did nothing.
xpost I don't think anyone mentioned the hilarious conversation about the colours early on. love the way bb never shies away from a gag.
on a more serious note i agree it is a bit weird with the nazis, the show seems to be reluctant to depict them as disgusting hate criminals, or maybe it doesn't have the time, or maybe they are just criminals with swastika tattoos.
― Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:55 (twelve years ago)
I think they're mainly there to illustrate how debased Walt has become in his choice of allies/henchmen, but they may well just be garden variety thugs who also happen to be into white power shit.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 10:07 (twelve years ago)
yeah i agree, just they don't really illustrate that too effectively because it hasn't had time to flesh them out much. like, i dunno, are neo-nazis generally more psychotic than other criminal gangs? maybe i'm being prejudiced against them.
― Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 10:10 (twelve years ago)
I think it's just meth = bikers = white guys with dubious politics/tattoos. I guess having a character with a swastika on his neck is a quick way of saying 'these guys are baddies, and probably aren't that smart so you can expect them to fuck up whatever situation we put them in'.
On a different subject - it struck me seeing Walt and Skyler outside the car wash that they now dress exactly like all the guests at that Grey Matter birthday party thing from ages ago.

i like the way they reserve especially sinister music for the truly sinister scenes, i mean in the context of a show that's fairly dark all the time.
― Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 11:33 (twelve years ago)
i could kinda see a callback to walt saving jesse from the dealers happening now where jesse, piqued by being called a coward, drives the car into the nazis
maybe that's too ~on the nose~ idk
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 11:36 (twelve years ago)
