Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

so youre saying everything the media covers is wildly unrealistic, like in real life

just think about what a media story about Walt would read/look like

I can see Marie being purple with rage over these developments.

underappreciated post, imho

the reasoning Walt gave the Nazis for having Jesse killed was basically Saul's Old Yeller bit, right?

yeah that was funny

i don't think the nazis need "reasoning" beyond "here's some $$$"

if only Walt had given Huell's disappearance a little more thought, he might not have taken the bait

xp

I like that Walt was still defending hime. "He's not a rat!"

dan selzer, Monday, 9 September 2013 20:26 (twelve years ago)

They've barely got time to close off all the existing narrative threads without setting up and playing out a whole new angle about the media and Walt being exposed. Everything from here on in has to be life-or-death stakes . Walt's going to die - and we know pretty soon he's running around with a big fucking gun and some ricin. What Carol or the skaters or ABQ knows isn't important to any of that so they won't waste time on it.

brio, Monday, 9 September 2013 20:26 (twelve years ago)

they've had their fun with the media with Jane's dad

^^^ this. I think we have a tendency to assume that every minor detail shown in the opening flash-forward is significant, when a fair amount of it is actually completely incidental/only there as a backdrop. I mean when season 3 opened with all the detritus in the pool did you immediately ascribe some significance to the teddy bear eyeball or whatever it was...?

The next episode is called "Ozymandias" and is directed by Rian Johnson. Should be a fun one.

Then comes "Granite State" (aka New Hampshire). Charlie Rose guests.

The last episode is "Felina", written and directed by Vince.

Felina may refer to:

Felinae: scientific classification for small cats
Lontra felina: scientific name of the marine otter
La Felina: aka Gail Kim, professional wrestler
Feleena: heroine of Marty Robbins' song "El Paso"
Felina (Oz), the cat of Princess Ozana of Storybook Mountain in The Magical Mimics in Oz
Felina Furr: secret identity of Alley-Kat-Abra (DC Comics)
Professor Felina Ivy: character in Pokémon
Felina (singer), a reggaeton musical artist.
Felina: Prinsesa ng mga Pusa, a 2012 Philippine television drama on TV5.

My money's on reggaeton lady

I'm wondering what Jesse has planned, cuz he clearly was slowly exiting the vehicle at the end. does he maybe have a huge fucking magnet or something that he's gonna take the baddies guns with.

btw am i the only one who was delighted to see the arrival of the nazis? (awkward sentences.) it was fairly obvious it was going to happen but just curious as this made me realise i basically want walt to win at any cost. in this case, even more than he does.

did anyone notice todd's hilarious shooting technique

ive been resisting engaging in any speculation or predicting, but every time i try to imagine the end game that gets walt & that m60 back in albuquerque i just end up picturing the wishbone episode of The Odyssey, where todd & the nazis are the suitors terrorizing skyler & walt jr's penelope & telemachus... and walt is wishbone.

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 9 September 2013 22:03 (twelve years ago)

I mean it's good but it's all forward motion, doesn't feel like there's a lot of subtlety or subtexts to be teased out by repeated viewings, it's pretty narrow in its scope.

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 9 September 2013 22:04 (twelve years ago)

Seen speculation elsewhere this could be Fe-Li-Na = Iron-Lithium-Sodium = Blood-Meth-Tears, which is a cool coincidence even if it turns out to be an incorrect guess.

bizarro gazzara, Monday, 9 September 2013 22:07 (twelve years ago)

xps although as is probably evident on these threads, I seem to forget bits of TV shows fairly quickly so get more out of repeat viewings than someone who remembers everything.
That said I was surprised how much of a total jerk Walt is from the get-go. I'd remembered him as well-meaning teacher at the beginning but I think a lot of that is Walt reinforcing that idea with what he says rather than how he is at the start. Master manipulator!

kinder, Monday, 9 September 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

omg there is so much more that is caught on the second viewing, shakey. I'll admit I rewatched out of boredom but then i was finding all of these little audio and visual clues pointing towards events in the future. it was fun.

i'd guess the charlie rose bit is him interviewing someone close to walt after it's uncovered he's heisenberg and he's on the lam. seems pretty clear from beginning of the second half of this season it's common knowledge who he was (spray painting on the wall with his name, house condemned). i could see walter flipping channels in some beat up hotel and coming to Marie/Skyler/etc. being interviewed about what it was like not knowing someone dear to them was secretly cooking meth/building a drug empire/was what he did for his family worth it/etc.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 9 September 2013 23:02 (twelve years ago)

It could be a Charlie Rose bit about something unrelated to what's happening, but which causes an effect on something i.e. a TV report about the lottery links the idea of the lottery to the coordinates or something. Unlikely (not thought out idea), just wanted to point out that it didn't have to be anything specific about the case. And I don't know who Charlie Rose is...

Doesn't have the thematic subtleties of say the Sopranos, but the virtuosity of the narrative construction is just as if not more impressive second time round. I plan to watch the whole thing through again in about five years.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 9 September 2013 23:53 (twelve years ago)

yeah I watched the back half of S2 and most of S3 recently and there were a lot of things I picked up on the second time around. knowing where things are going provides an added dimension, you can better admire the scenery when you're not getting whipped around by the breakneck turns of fortune.

i am just butting in here & can't get at the answers behind the most recent Click here toload thing right now, so sorry if I am syndicating last night's insta-responses, but can I just say I thought it was neat how greedily the writers played with cliched foreboding language in hank's dialogue catching walt & calling marie, just life zero restraint, each line another dagger, even It Might Be Awhile Til I'm Home, just how playful it is to roll this out verbatim to an audience so tense

@twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 03:07 (twelve years ago)

maybe it'll turn out to be accurate. hank gets home, but it's going to be a while. some kind of long, drawn out standoff/hostage situation type thing. that might make national news.
