Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

I dunno, I really liked the eps, hearkened back to the zany pace of earlier seasons when walt was flying by the seat of his pants, but the gunfight was kinda ridic. I'm no firearms expert but a guy with a pistol standing behind a truck going against a bunch of dudes w/ machine guns... seems like that battle is not going to rage for very long.

oh, totally. i guess i was thinking more in filmmaking terms - first there's that awesome low-angle shot of walt dropping the gun, then the way they establish dimension (and more) with those great dolly zooms during the standoff, the way they framed walt within the tahoe, even the squib fx - it's all just blocked and filmed so beautifully considering how complicated the scene actually is

yeah, even I was like "uh Hank, yer kinda exposed out there bro".

I mean if this had happened during a game of cops and robbers it would have erupted into a "GOT YOU!" 'NUH UH!' argument real fast.

actually I guess we do know that todd is good at hitting small targets

I did think it was stupid that so many rounds were flying and yet no one was being hit

it made me think of city of god where one of the plot points is how the criminals have terrible aim

yeah it was crazy. i mean gomie looks like he has a nasty chest/stomach wound but hank seemed pretty unharmed.

i couldnt tell if gomie was grimacing from being hit or just from being in a tight spot, i dont think you could see any wound

anyway imho the shootout was just kinda one of the pulpish not terribly realistic things that the show is known for

episode next week is gonna begin with the Nazis and Hank/Gomie at TGI Fridays laughing and drinking margaritas, reliving the firefight ("man, you were a hard target, bro!"), until Hank realizes that both Jesse and Walt aren't with them.

oh yeah, you're right - that was in the first half of this season, I remembered as being just a couple of episodes back... so the flash-forward could even be as short as a few weeks from the end of this episode

at first it looked like Gomie was hurt but in the second shot he just looked frustrated and scared

the pit of my stomach started to ache when Walt started yelling "JACK! JACK!" from inside the suv

watched the firefight again and it looks like Gomie cringes and has a streak of blood down his shirt but keeps firing, so he either got grazed on the side of the head or he got hit by shrapnel

Gomie's a goner. I'd put money on it.

I had a dream last night that next week's episode is Hank, Gomie & the nazi dudes all dead lying on the ground, and Walt and Jesse having a knock-down drag out fight in the dirt, with Lydia standing on a cliff in her fancy jacket and shoes watching with binoculars

Hank fucks up so much, realizes he's fucked up jobwise, that he ends up joining forces w/ Walt, who helps conspire to eventually pin the entire operation on Lydia and the Nazis. Hank is a hero because he puts away a giant drug ring (nobody believing Lydia and Jack's stories that Hank's brother in law is behind it) and Walt gets away with his family and money. Jesse plays video games.

If Hank's not dead, that is some bullshit. Would have to be some super-fucking amazing but plausible explanation to forgive a character surviving a firing squad of machine guns... or Hank and Gomie have Coachella Tupac Hologram technology maybe.

this episode is the first time i've sympathised with Walt for about 3 seasons. and that's mainly cos he's lying in the back of a car being shot at and his glasses have fallen off

I guess Hank could survive in BB-world - but it's better for him to be taken out drama-wise too - it leaves Jesse to settle the score with Walt on his own, outside the law.

hank eating it would definitely up the pathos, ie now walt gets away with it, jesse can go nuclear etc

Hank having a touching final phone call with Marie definitely made it seem like he was gonna be toast.

Hank and Gomez both have to die for Walt to be off the hook. that would only leave Marie (lol) as the one left to convince the DEA about Walt

but DEA does have Huell who knows Hank and Gomez were running down Walt and Saul, Marie's got Jesse's confession on tape (I'm guessing Hank left it in the house), and she will be able to tell cops that Hank's last contact before his disappearance was a phone call saying he had arrested Walt.

Pretty likely Marie will tell Walt Jr his father killed Hank next episode too - or force Skyler to level with him.

I got the impression that the DEA guy holding Huell had no idea what the heck was going on (which is why Hank told him not to talk to the guy)

If Hank actually left Walt's recording at the house, I'll be surprised, it seemed like they were just behind Walt as they were taping him - weirdly risky to wait at the house, since he could've been a day away

but DEA does have Huell

yea this could be interesting. hank sez 'i wont be home for awhile' or w/e thinking hes gonna be busy booking walt & explaining it. so if hes unreachable/dead she prob wont freak out right away but def will eventually and blame skyler if walts not present to blame

if hank dies marie will tell the dea and all of them will get their guns and kill walt, hence what looks like walt calling sauls guy and moving to new hampshire

how will Marie know Hank is dead tho
