Charlie Rose gets his car washed at A1, and Junior's all "You're that guy from the TEE-VEE!"

i really want a gif of Todd in the shooting

I laughed out loud at how bored and awkward he looked

lol @ episode ending on actual gunfire exchange rather than standard tense guys-pointing-guns-at-each-other (a trope I have come to loathe)

He looks like he's picking up something gross, like dog poop.

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 9 September 2013 15:41 (twelve years ago)

he has the expression of a man milking a cow.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 9 September 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)

I don't think they had GPS tracking on his phone, all they mentioned was a wire (many xposts)

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

well they've got him on record confessing to at least four murders so Walt is fucked and we can assume somehow he gets out of the shootout and goes on the lam/new identity etc. seems unlikely that anybody is actually going to die in the shootout, I would expect some weird parity is achieved - Nazis grab Walt, Hank/Gomie/Jesse get away.

in terms of just straight up technical direction, this sequence was completely flawless

I dunno, I really liked the eps, hearkened back to the zany pace of earlier seasons when walt was flying by the seat of his pants, but the gunfight was kinda ridic. I'm no firearms expert but a guy with a pistol standing behind a truck going against a bunch of dudes w/ machine guns... seems like that battle is not going to rage for very long.

OK - what can we be pretty sure of from the season-opening flash-forward?

- Walt is 52 (or imagining his 52nd birthday) - so we're about 1 year from "now"
- He has a full head of hair and beard and looks like shit
- He's using Skyler's maiden name as his alias, Mr. Lambert
- He's driving a car with New Hampshire plates
- He buys a big fucking gun
- He returns to ABQ
- His house looks to have been uninhabited for a long time
- Heisenberg graffiti inside the house
- He retrieves Ricin
- Neighbour Carol's reaction means he's notorious and/or presumed dead

This feels to me like the opening, more or less, of the final episode. So what has to happen in the next episode to get Walt to the beginning of the flash forward?
maybe:
- big gun = we needs to kill a lot of dudes at long range - the nazis?
- ricin = he needs to kill an individual he can get close to without leaving a trace

brio, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)

it hasnt! xp

a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:14 (twelve years ago)

how many rounds per second is that machine gun firing? perhaps they were blinded by hank's dome

a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:15 (twelve years ago)

I did think it was stupid that so many rounds were flying and yet no one was being hit

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)

all the neo-nazguls were standing stationary like a firing line, it's not like they were ducking and taking cover from hank n gomey's fire, and hank was basically standing out in the open

I'm assuming these guys are not amateurs at shooting at things, well maybe todd

oh, totally. i guess i was thinking more in filmmaking terms - first there's that awesome low-angle shot of walt dropping the gun, then the way they establish dimension (and more) with those great dolly zooms during the standoff, the way they framed walt within the tahoe, even the squib fx - it's all just blocked and filmed so beautifully considering how complicated the scene actually is

scream blahula scream (govern yourself accordingly), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

yeah, even I was like "uh Hank, yer kinda exposed out there bro".

Neanderthal, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:41 (twelve years ago)

I mean if this had happened during a game of cops and robbers it would have erupted into a "GOT YOU!" 'NUH UH!' argument real fast.

Neanderthal, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:42 (twelve years ago)

actually I guess we do know that todd is good at hitting small targets

it made me think of city of god where one of the plot points is how the criminals have terrible aim

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:49 (twelve years ago)

yeah it was crazy. i mean gomie looks like he has a nasty chest/stomach wound but hank seemed pretty unharmed.

xxxxxposts tbf his 51st birthday was a while ago, even in BB time.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:52 (twelve years ago)

wait waht did I blink and miss something? cuz I thought the episode ended with no one hurt

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:52 (twelve years ago)

i couldnt tell if gomie was grimacing from being hit or just from being in a tight spot, i dont think you could see any wound

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

anyway imho the shootout was just kinda one of the pulpish not terribly realistic things that the show is known for

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

episode next week is gonna begin with the Nazis and Hank/Gomie at TGI Fridays laughing and drinking margaritas, reliving the firefight ("man, you were a hard target, bro!"), until Hank realizes that both Jesse and Walt aren't with them.

Neanderthal, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:02 (twelve years ago)

tbf his 51st birthday was a while ago, even in BB time.

oh yeah, you're right - that was in the first half of this season, I remembered as being just a couple of episodes back... so the flash-forward could even be as short as a few weeks from the end of this episode

brio, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

at first it looked like Gomie was hurt but in the second shot he just looked frustrated and scared

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 September 2013 17:05 (twelve years ago)

the pit of my stomach started to ache when Walt started yelling "JACK! JACK!" from inside the suv

watched the firefight again and it looks like Gomie cringes and has a streak of blood down his shirt but keeps firing, so he either got grazed on the side of the head or he got hit by shrapnel

is space noise (mh), Monday, 9 September 2013 17:10 (twelve years ago)

Gomie's a goner. I'd put money on it.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

I had a dream last night that next week's episode is Hank, Gomie & the nazi dudes all dead lying on the ground, and Walt and Jesse having a knock-down drag out fight in the dirt, with Lydia standing on a cliff in her fancy jacket and shoes watching with binoculars

it was p dope

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 9 September 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

i dont see any way hank and gomie arent dead

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:15 (twelve years ago)

of course bb is full of SURPRISES

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:15 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I'd say Gomie's done, but Hank survives, and is in deep shit trying to explain Gomie's death to his superiors.

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 9 September 2013 17:16 (twelve years ago)

Hank fucks up so much, realizes he's fucked up jobwise, that he ends up joining forces w/ Walt, who helps conspire to eventually pin the entire operation on Lydia and the Nazis. Hank is a hero because he puts away a giant drug ring (nobody believing Lydia and Jack's stories that Hank's brother in law is behind it) and Walt gets away with his family and money. Jesse plays video games.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:19 (twelve years ago)

how does hank survive does he even have any bullets, maybe jesse drives the car into the ayrans a la ww v the drug dealers

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:20 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I'd say Gomie's done, but Hank survives, and is in deep shit trying to explain Gomie's death to his superiors

he's got hard evidence on Walt now cf phonecall confession

once the shooting stops if hank is wounded but alive walt could tell the nazis to spare him or no deal

final shot of show ends w/ an xray of walt's heart which has grown 3x in one day, doctors baffled in voiceover

the ayrans cant leave hank alive otherwise they will goto jail

lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:27 (twelve years ago)

If Hank's not dead, that is some bullshit. Would have to be some super-fucking amazing but plausible explanation to forgive a character surviving a firing squad of machine guns... or Hank and Gomie have Coachella Tupac Hologram technology maybe.

brio, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:32 (twelve years ago)

Vest?

dan selzer, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

but in Breaking Bad world of ridiculous things happening and ppl surviving, Hank coming out alive would not surprise me at all

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 9 September 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

this episode is the first time i've sympathised with Walt for about 3 seasons. and that's mainly cos he's lying in the back of a car being shot at and his glasses have fallen off

cerealbar, Monday, 9 September 2013 17:37 (twelve years ago)

I guess Hank could survive in BB-world - but it's better for him to be taken out drama-wise too - it leaves Jesse to settle the score with Walt on his own, outside the law.
