( Alfred, there'a a whole origin storyline, referenced when his ex showed up; he was a chemistry whiz who left his original enterprise, because his partners wouldn't bow down)They must have been following Walt for a while, to get there so quickly. But--unless they were waiting near the carwash--may have had some tracking equipment--taken from HQ or local spy shop. not hard to find those in the citay nowadays. Anyway, I was thinking a couple of reasons whul Walt despairs as soon as he sees them: he figures they may well have recorded his freak-out, maybe co-ordinates too, and could have emailed this stuff (counter to the "confession" video). Even if they didn't, which would fit this ep's whole heat-of-the-moment theme, where nobody's capable of chess moves, apparently; still, Hank has informed THE LADY In PURPLE OMG
― dow, Monday, 9 September 2013 14:34 (twelve years ago)
I doubt that it will come down to Walt trying to save Jesse, not after he's gone far enough to put out a hit on him.
― dow, Monday, 9 September 2013 14:36 (twelve years ago)
yah they couldve thrown a tracking device on his car right before calling him

I know but you'd think Germans would look at this guy's uh CV since 2008 and realize he's more trouble than he's worth.

really cool behind-the-scenes clip about the making of the shootout scene (no spoilers that i can tell)
in terms of just straight up technical direction, this sequence was completely flawless

A bit worried that it'll come down more to bang-bang than character, but no ending could ruin this show.

uh-oh just remembered that when Charlie Rose interviewed Gilligan, he mentioned that he (Rose, not Gilligan) was in an upcoming ep. Gilligan didn't like/deny this.

if the last episode closes on a montage with the Flaming Lips "Do You Realize?" playing I do think that would invalidate all the good work the show had previously done

yeah, Walt Jr being starstruck seeing Saul was funny. ABQ must be really low on celebrities.

well they've got him on record confessing to at least four murders so Walt is fucked and we can assume somehow he gets out of the shootout and goes on the lam/new identity etc. seems unlikely that anybody is actually going to die in the shootout, I would expect some weird parity is achieved - Nazis grab Walt, Hank/Gomie/Jesse get away.

I dunno, I really liked the eps, hearkened back to the zany pace of earlier seasons when walt was flying by the seat of his pants, but the gunfight was kinda ridic. I'm no firearms expert but a guy with a pistol standing behind a truck going against a bunch of dudes w/ machine guns... seems like that battle is not going to rage for very long.
― a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:09 (twelve years ago)
OK - what can we be pretty sure of from the season-opening flash-forward?
- Walt is 52 (or imagining his 52nd birthday) - so we're about 1 year from "now"- He has a full head of hair and beard and looks like shit - He's using Skyler's maiden name as his alias, Mr. Lambert- He's driving a car with New Hampshire plates- He buys a big fucking gun- He returns to ABQ- His house looks to have been uninhabited for a long time- Heisenberg graffiti inside the house- He retrieves Ricin - Neighbour Carol's reaction means he's notorious and/or presumed dead
This feels to me like the opening, more or less, of the final episode. So what has to happen in the next episode to get Walt to the beginning of the flash forward?maybe:- big gun = we needs to kill a lot of dudes at long range - the nazis?- ricin = he needs to kill an individual he can get close to without leaving a trace

how many rounds per second is that machine gun firing? perhaps they were blinded by hank's dome
― a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:15 (twelve years ago)
I did think it was stupid that so many rounds were flying and yet no one was being hit
― what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)
all the neo-nazguls were standing stationary like a firing line, it's not like they were ducking and taking cover from hank n gomey's fire, and hank was basically standing out in the open
I'm assuming these guys are not amateurs at shooting at things, well maybe todd
― a hard dom is good to find (Edward III), Monday, 9 September 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)
oh, totally. i guess i was thinking more in filmmaking terms - first there's that awesome low-angle shot of walt dropping the gun, then the way they establish dimension (and more) with those great dolly zooms during the standoff, the way they framed walt within the tahoe, even the squib fx - it's all just blocked and filmed so beautifully considering how complicated the scene actually is

― lag∞n, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)
anyway imho the shootout was just kinda one of the pulpish not terribly realistic things that the show is known for
episode next week is gonna begin with the Nazis and Hank/Gomie at TGI Fridays laughing and drinking margaritas, reliving the firefight ("man, you were a hard target, bro!"), until Hank realizes that both Jesse and Walt aren't with them.
