what is pearls? tapioca? it gives me a bellyache. I ask for "just a few pearls". gotta say though, the way a pearl comes sliding through a wide straw is a culinary delight on par with oyster slurps IMO

Thinking about tie dying denim and practicing cooking. Left myself too broke to actually start doing either to the level I should be.
weeping copiously at having failed to get the certificate on the course I just finished. Or just getting frustrated taht I can't practice at home and can't properly channel myself and manage time during an exam. Or taht I couldn't break away from what I was doing far enough to see what was going wrong. & that everything that was going wrong was something that was minute in itself and could have been easily rectified if I could have taken 10. Wondering if I'd been allowed to have a water bottle in the exam it would have given me enough of a step back to refocus. Continual autopsy of spilt milk, which would have been handier to have in the exam itself.
positively, questionably(?) Blake's 7 which i've just watched most of the way through. Currently on the 4th series. Not sure if I watched this far before. The early episodes, those with Blake himself in are pretty good, a little clichéd in places some of the later stuff is also good. Wasn't there a film of this being made? Wondering how they would transfer it, presumably instantly get rid of the low budget quality. I've been reminded of the remake of Solaris thanks to the use of stairs of office buildings, carparks etc as sets in the early episodes, or possibly throughout. Wonder what Viking production some of the minor characters borrowed costumes from too.
Think I'll rewatch Neverwhere at some point soon too.
Qawal's new tandoor oven. They had some of these in London a while back , people were opening shop front shops selling naan breads that had been cooked as the customer waited. THey used a tandoor oven taht I think has only recently started to be produced in England, previously had to be imported from INdia. This is a small 4ft tall metal box with a central hollow metal shaft over a fire in the bottom of the unit. I think from having seen them on tv a while back the traditional style tandoor was about 10 feet tall and made of clay, but that programme was a very long time ago. Anyway the process is the same , the cook slaps the dough for the bread onto the side of this flue/shaft and it stays there for a short period of time while it cooks through. He has some variants of this where the bread is stuffed with other ingredients. I must get around to trying that next week, though he keeps changing the menu each week so may have some other delectable I haven't tried and I'l have to wait.

Lie ins reading. After 6 fruitless months of getting up at 6.30 which included recently waking up at 4 or 5am and not wanting to go back to sleep the ability to do this is most refreshing.
The White Goddess which I just read a chunk of and will probably now finish if things stay as they are at the moment.
Neverwhere the 1996 tv show. THink I've seen/read all the way through each of the versions this appeared in unless it was also a stage show of some kind. But not atched this version in th elast couple of years. I'm wondering what the b&w/colour design looks like on a pristine copy since I think this was video based not dvd. Funny how many Dr Who candidates this has in it. Think it had 3 in th efirst episode since I think that's DAvid Tennant as leader of the rat-speakers. Peter Capaldi is the Angel Islington and i think Paterson Joseph was the black actor that turned the role down if what I'm hearing elsewhere is true. On the strength of this performance he would have been good. Interesting to see Capaldi in a different role to Malcolm too, wondering if this is any better reflection of how he'll play the Dr?
Alan Moore's Promethea which i don't think I managed to get right through previously. Think something prevented me from finishing the series when I d/loaded it. Drive crash possibly but it's working ok now.
UFO the Gerry Anderson series.I half like the sylvia Anderson fashions but think there are some major flaws. The submarine crew's string vest tops and Straker's one piece trouser/waistcoat catsuit to name 2. Like quite a bit of the clothing from Blake's 7 too but that again has some serious flaws. Best stuf seems to have been that supposedly supplied by the Liberator.
― Stevolende, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 09:04 (twelve years ago)
thinking about it, i think the pink wigs in UFO are a step too far - hair cut and colour are pretty big clues used to identify people and getting rid of that would just make that stuff harder.

Weird thing about one of the continually featured roles in UFO being played by the sister of Nick Drake so presumably a much better centered individual. But surprising that they both got recognition as much as they did even if Nick only got it after death possibly plus a few years. Or is taht over reading the popularity of UFO. It did only really get one season with major discrepancies over running order.
― Stevolende, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 22:58 (twelve years ago)
ms drake was in Crossroads (big UK soap set in a motel) for a couple of years iirc, she's probably more famous for that.
― koogs, Thursday, 12 September 2013 11:50 (twelve years ago)
Point I was making was about them both getting fame. I think. Hope Gabrielle was better prepared for it than Nick was. Maybe it was something to do with the creative urge too. Though Nick seemed to find it hard to broadcast his creations. Maybe it was nurtured by their mother who sang and whose cd was released a couple of years back. But maybe all that's been said before.

― What, me infallible? (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 13 October 2013 05:35 (twelve years ago)
I presume you mean cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. These are just three complementary 'warm' spices that go well in a moderately sweet setting and with earthy flavors. They're ace. Try them in oatmeal cookies.
The "pumpkin pie spice mix" label is just marketing for people who need a lot of hand-holding in the kitchen.
