Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

with the gas can caper and last week's concealer failure we've seen a bit more of the old buffoonish Walt lately. It's never too late for him to put this last year behind him and get back to normal.

another reason not to bring up the dead girlfriend arc is it forces the show that to acknowledge that, despite having waltdrama 24/7, jesse went from hanging out with methwhores to having two soulful relationships with far prettier addicts in a short period of time

"i didn't poison your girlfriend, I poisoned Brock!"

"no the girlfriend BEFORE that!"

da croupier, Monday, 2 September 2013 21:58 (twelve years ago)

last week's two stories at the car wash were better than the gas station naivete imo

kinder, Monday, 2 September 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

except i thought that the idea of the double-reveal, like you confess to one cover-up (hiding fainting from cancer) to get away with another one (dude wants to burn down your house), was pretty well executed, and maybe his plan from the start.

"Dave Barlow" is the name Lou uses on sabermetrics baseball sites (s.clover), Monday, 2 September 2013 22:14 (twelve years ago)

i was wondering that too, but I think Walt didn't even intend to doublesnow his son

Nhex, Monday, 2 September 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

Want a vh1 storytellers where Walt just lies about songs he obviously didn't write. Holding an acoustic guitar all like, "well, you see, my buddy maxwell has this silver hammer. He's a geologist and he uses it to break apart samples, you know, of rock and stuff like that. And well one day, it was not max's finest hour, he got distracted and hit one of his students, a poor girl named Joan I believe, on her noggin with his hammer. Ha! Well you just wouldn't believe what followed, and so I wrote this song about it."

Yeah while it was a quick catch by Walt to hop on the fainting thing, the take away is that even Walt jr knows his dad is a lying liar who can't give those around him any credit.

da croupier, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 00:07 (twelve years ago)

I think Walt even thought or at least hoped skylar was buying it until she called bs in the hotel.

da croupier, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 00:09 (twelve years ago)

i liked the reveal of hank taking jesse away especially how they left just as walt was pulling up that was fun

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 00:12 (twelve years ago)

xposts
it was also the 3rd straight episode i think with a "when will you just stop with the lies?" scene - jesse in the desert, hank at the restaurant, and walt jr now. setting the stage for badger and skinny pete to finally call walt on his bullshit next week.

brio, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 00:19 (twelve years ago)

thought it was cool too that walt jr. 's theory that he'd fainted was way more plausible and sympathetic than walt's Gas Pumps Gone Wild story - felt like there was a flicker of recognition of this on Cranston's face

brio, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 00:21 (twelve years ago)

Walt refuses to acknowledge his own weaknesses, never occurred to him

space is deep (mh), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 02:12 (twelve years ago)

Lotta assumptions that Walt called Todd to kill Jesse. I mean, it's likely, or at least not unlikely, but there could be more at work here. Just as Hank has no interest/knowledge in who actually killed those 10 witnesses in jail, maybe no one else really knows about the white power dudes, either, which could give Walt a way to fake his own death.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:21 (twelve years ago)

Cranston seems to be almost gleefully channelling his Malcolm in the Middle dad character in Walt's terrible lying episodes lately.

Darin, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:22 (twelve years ago)

I've noticed all along that he's clearly decided Walt is a mouth breather.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:25 (twelve years ago)

Just read a great ambitious guess that Jesse's grand plan will be to take credit for all of Walt's work, which would infuriate Walt enough that he'd confess just to get his due.

wasn't it kinda strangely specific that Hank and Gomie had that conversation about the videocamera's SD card?

also what the hell is Gomie doing here

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 05:24 (twelve years ago)

xp Nah, me and my buds talk about SD cards all the time.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 05:25 (twelve years ago)

I think it was the one from the camera? It did, indeed, seem oddly specific at the time.

yeah it was the videocamera's card. Pretty conspicuous scene.

*could* mean something - but at the time i just thought it mean Jesse had done *a lot* of talking!

Just read a great ambitious guess that Jesse's grand plan will be to take credit for all of Walt's work

this could possibly be it. Walt's ego has been the driving force most of the series. he already let most his family fall apart - his ego is probably the best way to get at him.

Lotta assumptions that Walt called Todd to kill Jesse.

i was thinking this too. but as soon as i think BB will come up with something totally unexpected, they go the obvious route... so who knows. wondering what else he might need them for.

this came up in a discush today & it's what i'd place money on as of now. it (ideally) forces walt out of retirement, to lydia's delight, but pits him against the aryan nation who now control his equipment & methylamine. the season's even tagged with REMEMBER MY NAME

awake the snorting citizens (discreet), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 05:49 (twelve years ago)

also what the hell is Gomie doing here

This was my reaction too. I like the character, and Steven Quezada is a good actor, so I think he would've deserved a scene where Hank finally breaks the news about Heisenberg to him, especially since in the previous two episodes we saw he was clearly worried about Hank. But now all we got was "oh yeah, Gomie is there too", which felt a bit rushed.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 06:58 (twelve years ago)

definitely seems like something that was cut from last episode, maybe it'll be on the dvd

Nhex, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 06:59 (twelve years ago)

i bet thats one of those things we would've prob gotten if gilligan had 2 full seasons to end the show with

tbh though i'm still happy with the less-leisurely pace of season 5 compared to season 4, the constraint made it a better show IMO

I mean I get that things are rushed but they did have time for us to meet Marie's therapist. Also it takes more than Hank just explaining Walt's Heisenberg-ness, he also has to convince him to risk his whole career with this secret investigation.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 07:06 (twelve years ago)

pancho villa salma hayek pancho villa salma hayek

breaking bad & mad men have both been very good at eliding scenes you'd expect to see in conventional dramas -- the kind that would carry much of the weight in a way that makes them more convetional, where they occur just because the audience expects to be shown every beat with every character.

it's no mystery why gomie's at jessie's interrogation -- hank held out for awhile, then realized -- if he's gonna put up a suspect in his home, it might be nice to have an additional reliable witness, who's also a source of professional and moral support. it was also just pleasurable, on a filmmaking level, to have gomie revealed in a long shot and to hold his skeptical expression throughout the scene.

awake the snorting citizens (discreet), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 07:37 (twelve years ago)

the scene with marie's therapist was hell of suspenseful -- is THIS how things are going to fall apart? -- a red herring but not an unworthy one

awake the snorting citizens (discreet), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 07:39 (twelve years ago)

the whole marie therapy scene was a small masterpiece imo & maybe one of my favorites of the whole series. it captured the therapeutic dynamic perfectly imo, especially at that threshold of when do you give away incriminating information? Plus, it's obviously taking place in dave's home & they held on at least two long shots in which were depicted SO MANY THINGS TO STEAL

awake the snorting citizens (discreet), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 07:47 (twelve years ago)

" A lot of the ugly, evil stuff Walt has done was because Jesse fucked up to begin with."

One of the questions this season has been posing is how everything would have panned out if Walt had met a complete sociopath like Todd at the start instead of Jesse.

Loved the sitting on a poisoned needle line by the way.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 08:00 (twelve years ago)

kinda feeling like hank will be dead before he ever goes official with all this. big gang of nazis storming the house imo.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 08:30 (twelve years ago)

I though the Marie therapy thing was a nice mirroring of Walt poisoning Brock. Like how do physically weak people who cant go round all guns blazing react to something threatening their family? They research poisons on the internet!

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 08:42 (twelve years ago)

I don't think Jesse has any intention of killing either Skylar or Walter Jr but it's enough for Walt to *think* that he might.

Anticipating a scene next week where Jesse tells everything to Skylar and she's all "yeah I knew". Walter Jr finding out is probably the nuclear moment though, suddenly there's nothing left for Skylar to protect other than herself.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:59 (twelve years ago)

Like I am not feeling good for Junior after than swimming pool scene.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:59 (twelve years ago)

skylar finding out about him killing the child is potentially quite a big deal though.

xpost otm about junior.
