Walt has a weird power over Jesse even now though. I don't think this necessarily a final wedge at all, especially as there's probably still some big Todd/Lydia-related bombshell that could still force them to act together.

I have a feeling this series will end in nuclear holocaust when Walt cons the President into thinking Russia has launched nukes.
He survives and it kills all of his cancer. forced to live the rest of his life alone, cooking meth for nobody to buy.

M60s work just fine single handed (I passed 30-50 rounds through one in Army BCT in 1991). Few if any would be able to fire in automatic mode handheld, but they're just fine propped bipod or foxhole edge.
The additional crewmen are there for carrying extra ammo, barrels & bipod/tripod, and importantly, crew-served weapons are just more likely be fired in a targeted manner. After WWII, Army psychiatrists discovered most grunts with rifles would fire high and blindly, and tended to cower behind cover, but just being in a weapons crew creates the psychological pressure / support to pop one's head out of cover to sight the weapon.

They're really hamming it up tonight. Might be their last chance to show levity before the downward spiral of the last several episodes starts up.

oh man this was so great. so many people exposing ugly sides of themselves. Hank using Jesse as a pawn and having the stones to admit it. Marie admitting she fantasizes about poisoning Walt. Skyler asking WAlt indirectly to kill Jesse.
the reveal of why Jesse opted not to burn the house down. The sleight of hand with the "hit man" at the end (though I did guess that one). Jesse's threat. the setup for an explosive finale.
man I have such a boner.
― Neanderthal, Monday, 2 September 2013 02:24 (twelve years ago)
i was... a little frustrated by how they connected some of these dots? The Hank/Jessie/Gomez connection feels a little wobbly to me. I don't think I care that much but the emphasis on subtlety is somewhat lost.
For those of you who like conspiracy theories, I noticed that the DEA coffee cup that Jessie got had a handle out in a way that spelled D E A Dand on the bookshelf behind him when they're gearing up for that video, there's a box set of Deadwood and a book called "Destiny"real i buried paul stuff there

and skyler's "kill that guy" thing was not so great for my money. arguments upthread about agency aside, it feels sorta in character but more hard boiled than she's been
― YOU FOOLS PAY OVER $2.50 for a comic book (forksclovetofu), Monday, 2 September 2013 04:57 (twelve years ago)
ha, I had a look at the bookshelf too, I noticed Deadwood but nothing else of particular interest. Maybe I should go back and choose a book to spin a crackpot theory from.

well there's a book called 'The Final Days' so you can definitely run with that DEAD thing. Me, I'll come up with something to account for the wide variety of horse books.

I think it would have been a lot more elegant if Jesse had just had a pure gut feeling like Gus did in the parking garage.

I liked that they had Hank saying he didn't give a shit if Pinkman got offed - nice layer to the character and storyof how Walt has infected everyone
so what's jesse's plan? all he said was "next time I'm going to hit you where you really live", right?
― brio, Monday, 2 September 2013 13:55 (twelve years ago)
I can't imagine Jesse would attempt to harm Walt's family. and he's not talking about killing Walter.
maybe he's going to write a tell-all book and appear on Today with Kathie Lee & Hoda

― Neanderthal, Monday, 2 September 2013 14:14 (twelve years ago)
bear with me - maybe this is super-obvious - but where walt really lives, what he would be devastated by the destruction of, is his family - and by extension, the money he wants his family to have. putting walt in jail or exposing him is worthless because he's going to die in a few months anyway. destroying the money & rendering everything walt did to get it useless would be the ultimate punishment.
also jesse won't hurt kids, and hank obviously wouldn't be in on anything to hurt the kids, so it's got to be the money.
but, as far as we know, walt is the only one who knows where the money is buried - and the only clue is the lottery ticket with the map coordinates.
jesse and or hank figuring out the lottery ticket clue is too far-fetched, too scooby doo.
― brio, Monday, 2 September 2013 14:18 (twelve years ago)
well, arresting or killing Walt could indirectly lead to destroying the money since I doubt anybody in Walt's family (maybe Skyler) knows the lottery ticket secret or how to find something using precise coordinates. but yeah, I've not got a good guess as of yet.
― Neanderthal, Monday, 2 September 2013 14:32 (twelve years ago)
if skyler knows the location - or if walt left instructions with saul or something in case he dies - the family still gets the money, walt still gets what he wants
― brio, Monday, 2 September 2013 14:35 (twelve years ago)
yeah, you're right. and that would fit how the show has worked thus far.
hmm - is Jesse a mastermind, or is he about to do something really effing dumb?

― balls, Monday, 2 September 2013 14:44 (twelve years ago)
It is amazing at keeping this tension/pace going. Also Hank's "kid wtf are you talking about Gomey fuck that junkie asshole" speech was great. Not going to let anyone be a hero.
― One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Monday, 2 September 2013 14:46 (twelve years ago)
Jesse can be bright, although it usually takes him a while: "could you, like, make a battery?" "How bout a magnet? A really big magnet?" And he did learn how to cook the magic meth by himself, at least on occasion. Yeah, seems like Walt would've left the co-ordinates w Saul or Skyler (both?); the money's his legacy, the thing that justifies all this: family values (like not killing Hank or Jesse, so far).Re the recent New Yorker article on seizing property, plus RICO, might could seize the carwash at some point, once Walt is arrested, indicted--but Hank's trying to cover his ass by having slam-dunk evidence gathered before reporting all this (how did he convince Gomie to help him? That's one unsympathetic-looking dude). Skyler's "What's one more?" seems more depressive than Lady Macbeth: she has this implosive look---trying to make bombshells into dud-ish depth charges---when Hank or Walt deliver bad news and present bad choices, home truths, etc. So far, staying on the bad path is a way of resisting change, being heaved to the surface, the raw air and light. Also, the money is some kind of bait, some kind of treasure she can hoard, and something to guard against the changes that will come even if somehow they get away with it--incl. life after Walt. But she might go the other way again, especially if her children or her relationships w them are threatened. I think she can find Walt repulsive, at least at times--the way she was talking to him last night, before falling into the "What's one more?" bit.
― dow, Monday, 2 September 2013 15:03 (twelve years ago)
Jesse can definitely have flashes of brilliance - and he's the only one who knows everything about the real Walt and his tactics... other than maybe Saul.
Is there any way Saul turns against Walt? Could he and/or Huell and Bill Burr know where the money is hidden?
― brio, Monday, 2 September 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)
I guess they could've tracked Walt's car... Though he's pretty careful about checking.
― I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 2 September 2013 16:08 (twelve years ago)
the other "hurt you where you really live" scenario would be for Jesse to reveal everything to Walt Jr. Hank could even go along with that.
Have Jesse and Walt Jr. ever met? Could make for an epic breakfast.
― brio, Monday, 2 September 2013 16:15 (twelve years ago)
I parsed the "what's one more" bit as Skyler getting even w/ Walt for the stunt they pulled with her sister and Hank last week. I think she senses he's protecting Jesse which pisses her off and she wants to give Walt a taste of his medicine to some degree. This sort of accounts for the inconsistencies in character imo.
― Darin, Monday, 2 September 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, that seems likely; ditto he other "hurt you where you really live" scenario would be for Jesse to reveal everything to Walt Jr. Hank could even go along with that.
― dow, Monday, 2 September 2013 16:32 (twelve years ago)
the more I think about, the more it seems like we're heading toward some 3-way collision between Walt's three "sons": Walt Jr, Jesse and Todd.
Jesse dies at the hand of Todd - but his death is somehow an act of Christ-like self-sacrifice that reveals Walt's true nature to Walt Jr.
