They settled, right? no one's donating to their legal fund

As the person who posted about the 2 news stories: News Story 1)How Trayvon Martin's parents have (reportedly) settled a lawsuit with the Homeowners' Association, and News Story 2)How Trayvon Martin's parents might have legal difficulty suing Zimmerman, I can just tell you this, from what I got from seemingly reputable web sites: For News Story 1) The Orlando Sentinel is my source of information. The Orlando Sentinel had reported (earlier in 2013) that Trayvon Martin's parents settled with the Homeowners' Association for an undisclosed amount of money (though rumored to be about $1 million USD). The link to the story is http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2013-04-05/news/os-trayvon-martin-settlement-20130405_1_trayvon-martin-benjamin-crump-george-zimmerman and for News Story 2) "Democracy Now" is my source of information. "Democracy Now" is saying that Trayvon Martin's parents might have legal difficulty suing Zimmerman because of certain 'legal language' contained in the Stand Your Ground law that provides for "the family of a shooting victim (to) pay the shooter’s legal fees and lost wages if the judge in a civil case grants that George Zimmerman had immunity because he had a right to stand his ground and that he was in essence justified in the killing". The source for this information is "Democracy Now", and the link is http://www.democracynow.org/2013/7/15/after_aiding_zimmermans_case_alec_backed.
What would be the legal strategy behind suing the homeowners' association without also suing Zimmerman?
Reportedly, Zimmerman might be protected by certain parts of the "Stand Your Ground" law, see the link listed above for the "Democracy Now" transcript and video, from whence this information comes.
In Googling for a copy of the complaint I found that a satire piece about Zimmerman filing suit against Trayvon Martin's parents is being taken seriously by some.
According to "Democracy Now" (at the link listed above), Zimmerman is not filing suit against Trayvon Martin's parents, but he might as well be; and according to "Democracy Now", this isn't satire, (though it might seem like dark satire).
Since I'm relatively new here, and am still trying to get the hang of Formatting for the Boards, maybe I'm not successfully posting the links for the 2 news stories. If that's the case, you could try Googling: For News Story 1): "Trayvon Martin wrongful death claim more than $1 million - Orlando Sentinel" and for News Story 2): "After Aiding Zimmerman’s Case, ALEC-Backed "Stand Your Ground" Could Threaten a Civil Lawsuit | Democracy Now!". Hope this helps. I could understand someone thinking this is satire, but apparently it's not.

I was referring to this article being mistaken for real news: hxxp://nationalreport.net/george-zimmerman-files-civil-suit-against-trayvon-martins-parents-for-being-brutally-attacked-by-their-juvenile-son/. I'd never heard of The National Report before this, but to be NRO + The Onion + Weekly World News. Some of their other stories: Dyson Vacuums To Sponsor Planned Parenthood; Twins Separated at Birth, Wed & Produce Hideous Incest Love Child "On Sunday, January 20, 2013, at 6:16 a.m. Angie gave birth to a soulless creature and spawn of Satan. At 6:19 a.m. the underweight infant died," which includes quite the Photoshop masterpiece.

But just to be clear though: The story from "Democracy Now" is real, actual news. So there's no misunderstanding, if you go to the "Democracy Now" web page that the link should take you to, you should see the transcript from the "Democracy Now" show that discusses how Trayvon Martin's parents might actually have serious problems trying to sue Zimmerman. That link again, (and I hope I'm posting it correctly), is http://www.democracynow.org/2013/7/15/after_aiding_zimmermans_case_alec_backed.

The news of Zimmerman's detention Monday went viral and caused a stir at the Lake Mary Police Department, which serves a town of 14,574 people. The police have been deluged with phone calls from the media asking about the incident.“Man, it would be fantastic if you have an apartment out there [in Los Angeles] for George Zimmerman," Bracknell, the police chief, told The Times. “This guy is killing me. We’re just a small-town police department -- this really taxes us."

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/16/us-usa-florida-shooting-dunn-idUSBREA1E0MR20140216
Reuters) - A north Florida jury convicted a white, middle-aged man on Saturday of three counts of attempted murder for opening fire on a car of black teenagers during an argument over loud rap music, but could not reach a verdict on a murder charge for the killing of a 17-year-old in the car.
Michael Dunn, a 47-year-old software engineer, fired 10 rounds at an SUV carrying four teens in a Jacksonville gas station parking lot in November 2012, killing black teen Jordan Davis.
The jury said it was deadlocked on the most serious charge of first degree murder against Dunn, forcing judge Russell Healey to declare a mistrial on that count.
The jury also found Dunn guilty on a fifth count of firing into an occupied vehicle.
The trial has drawn international attention because of racial overtones and Dunn's claims of self-defense.
The failure to reach a verdict on the first degree murder charge is a blow for the prosecution and the Davis family. But the three guilty verdicts on the charge of attempted second degree murder against the other teens in the SUV, mean that Dunn still faces a sentence of at least 60 years in jail, legal analysts said.
Prosecutors told a press conference after the verdicts that they plan to retry Dunn on the first degree murder charge.

― curmudgeon, Sunday, 16 February 2014 04:37 (twelve years ago)
I haven't been tracking this closely, but just the details alone don't indicate a first degree murder charge. Dude was reckless as fuck and a manslaughter conviction should have been a slam dunk.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 February 2014 04:41 (twelve years ago)
Yeah it definitely felt like the prosecutor overreached in trying for a first degree murder charge
Which obviously still speaks to how fucked up our criminal justice system is
― 龜, Sunday, 16 February 2014 04:56 (twelve years ago)
first degree is premeditated, isn't it? it wouldn't make sense in this case. at least he got nailed on the other counts
