Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

they did just lead us on with walt recording his "confession" and intense discussion before we saw what it really was.

im p positive gilligan has even said in interviews and stuff, i think in the run up 2 the 1st half of this season & probably again before this 2nd batch of eps, words to the effect of we (the writers) haven't forgot abt the cancer, etc

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

well who's arguing they forgot about the cancer

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

did they forget about dre

mh, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:13 (twelve years ago)

i do have a lot of respect 4 cancerous walt digging that desert money hole by himself, he tuff

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:16 (twelve years ago)

while i'd like to be able to point out details without having to make a case that it's an unquestionable clue to the grand finale, they've increasingly kept us from knowing what the hell walt's doing (The flash-forwards, the "confession" build-up), so him deceiving us as well as everyone else would be a fairly logical extension of their believe that Walt is NOT a sympathetic figure at this point.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:17 (twelve years ago)

their belief, i mean.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:18 (twelve years ago)

they did just lead us on with walt recording his "confession" and intense discussion before we saw what it really was.

this is dramatic license - they showed the beginning of a confession which actually was a grand and sinister ploy.

showing him with an iv in his arm would have to be a deception given how dumb it'd be if they later concocted a story of him fooling doctors etc, i mean, this just isn't going to happen.

yes there is ambiguity about to what extent his cancer is back, and yes he is of course going to use it to his advantage however he can, but there isn't ambiguity about the sole issue of the cancer being back.

the dramatic issue with the cancer is whether that's what's going to kill him or not, another potential demise/end to the show, giving these last few eps more tension.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:19 (twelve years ago)

i totally agree that the IV would need a damn good explanation, but again i'm not debating whether or not "the cancer is back"

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

xp yea that is true abt the deception

i guess the neighbor lady dropping her groceries could be abt if theres a new mexico tribune expose abt walt faking cancer & making $ off it or something & shes not seen the heisenberg scrawled inside his house

keep in mind, like this wld be a horrible explanation tho

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

hell she might think he's dead!

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:22 (twelve years ago)

i have so much faith in gilligan at this stage. they are going to smash this out of the park.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:23 (twelve years ago)

How many episodes are left?

no fomo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

we shd poll like % chance u think theyll fuck it up. i agree, p low imo

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

the way she drops her groceries could suggest everyone thinks he's dead. then it again it could mean he's a wanted criminal on the run. idk innit

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

we know he showed up with a NH license plate, we know shit got fubar back home, we know he has access to a identity provider. it's possible he's presumed dead after some hardcore madness, and he's come back because a quiet life in new england is not how walt goes out.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

it was! but other than that, everything we know about the situation comes from the mouth of walter white. it's possible he's telling the truth, and the writers decided there was no need for the kind of "walter gets news" doctor scenes we used to see all the time. but all we really KNOW is that he was on IV recently.

There is a scene with his oncologist where he tells him the big is back but they cut it for time.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

imho she was lowering her arms in solidarity with walt having to get an iv in his arms because he has cancer

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:26 (twelve years ago)

*BIG C* excuse me

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:26 (twelve years ago)

but to pretend there is NO element of ambiguity here is as dense as saying walt is DEFINITELY lying.

there is no ambiguity for people more familiar with cancer treatment, is the point. anyone who's spent time either on the job treating cancer patients or walking family members or friends through treatment know you can't get cancer treatment by saying "I need the treatment." I'm sure there's Munchausen's people who manage to get chemo but they're as rare as the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. higher likelihood is that the show is presuming more knowledge about how cancer treatment works than is reasonably fair.

the big what it could be any big thing, a mac or a bird

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

the neighbour had a look of cancer about her imo. i paused it and magnified her face.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

i don't mean that you could see she was sick, more that you could see she was thinking about it.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

the neighbor represents cancer this is all flynns dream except... he is a different person than walt jr

I definitely got the 'thought he was dead' vibe. not that that mean Heisenberg isnt known by all at that point.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:28 (twelve years ago)

if we have to go there, i'm fairly familiar with cancer treatment, thank you.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:28 (twelve years ago)

i was assuming its cause hes a known criminal

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:29 (twelve years ago)

It's not that there's no ambiguity, but some of the things people itt have pointed out as inconsistent with what Walt's said about his cancer being back (he doesn't seem as sick as you'd think for a guy on chemo) are actually quite reasonable if you know something about modern second-line chemotherapy regimens.

the heisenberg graffiti, the fenced off house (crime scene, possible meth lab)

but lagoon mac and bird dont start with 'C'.
i know what i want to substitute here but ill refrain.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:31 (twelve years ago)

christ, a person whose taken a parent to chemo treatments can also entertain the possibility of walter white being an unreliable narrator.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:31 (twelve years ago)

she was wondering where his pontiac aztek was

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:32 (twelve years ago)

i think 52 y/o walt is pretty cute

i was wondering this too tbh

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:39 (twelve years ago)

i really wish we'd gotten the news of an excised scene with walt's oncologist before i had to have my "witnessed cancer treatment" bonafides questioned for daring to suggest walt might not be giving everyone all the information he has. where did they reveal this outtake, sunny?

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:42 (twelve years ago)

i was assuming its cause hes a known criminal

this, mostly because they juxtaposed it with a scene in the current timeline where he says hi to the neighbor and she pleasantly waves and smiles, right?

festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:44 (twelve years ago)

well i think the graffitti too def

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:46 (twelve years ago)

or what if theres a hot new teen band or gang called heisenberg

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:46 (twelve years ago)

no reason he can't be a known criminal and presumed dead

what's the InTrade on "Breaking Bad ends appropriately & satisfactory according to the majority of critics and fans."

Kissin' Cloacas (Viceroy), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:47 (twelve years ago)

Is Carol the same neighbor he used to check his house for bombs or whatev?

polyphonic, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:49 (twelve years ago)

seems weird to me that anyone, neighbor or not, would be aware of the intricacies of a criminal enterprise, no matter how well reported. seems more likely she thought he was dead imho, but we'll see.

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:54 (twelve years ago)

Pretty clearly set up that neighbor loses her shit because Walt is a known criminal. Also, I'm a little confused - was someone arguing upthread that the cancer did not come back? Because that's just nuts.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:56 (twelve years ago)

fence around the house family gone might ask a few questions, might be the talk of the neighborhood, might be a big local news story

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:56 (twelve years ago)

Like, the derelict house has his nom de guerre sprayed on it. Walt's secret identity is public record. Unless he plays it off as payback from kingpin Hank ... hmm. And fakes his death ... hmmm.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:57 (twelve years ago)

the derelict house has his nom de guerre sprayed on it

why is everyone making such a big deal of this, it's on the INSIDE of the house

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:58 (twelve years ago)

conjecture in this thread is ridiculously out of control
