im p positive gilligan has even said in interviews and stuff, i think in the run up 2 the 1st half of this season & probably again before this 2nd batch of eps, words to the effect of we (the writers) haven't forgot abt the cancer, etc

i do have a lot of respect 4 cancerous walt digging that desert money hole by himself, he tuff

while i'd like to be able to point out details without having to make a case that it's an unquestionable clue to the grand finale, they've increasingly kept us from knowing what the hell walt's doing (The flash-forwards, the "confession" build-up), so him deceiving us as well as everyone else would be a fairly logical extension of their believe that Walt is NOT a sympathetic figure at this point.

this is dramatic license - they showed the beginning of a confession which actually was a grand and sinister ploy.

showing him with an iv in his arm would have to be a deception given how dumb it'd be if they later concocted a story of him fooling doctors etc, i mean, this just isn't going to happen.

yes there is ambiguity about to what extent his cancer is back, and yes he is of course going to use it to his advantage however he can, but there isn't ambiguity about the sole issue of the cancer being back.

the dramatic issue with the cancer is whether that's what's going to kill him or not, another potential demise/end to the show, giving these last few eps more tension.

i totally agree that the IV would need a damn good explanation, but again i'm not debating whether or not "the cancer is back"

we know he showed up with a NH license plate, we know shit got fubar back home, we know he has access to a identity provider. it's possible he's presumed dead after some hardcore madness, and he's come back because a quiet life in new england is not how walt goes out.

it was! but other than that, everything we know about the situation comes from the mouth of walter white. it's possible he's telling the truth, and the writers decided there was no need for the kind of "walter gets news" doctor scenes we used to see all the time. but all we really KNOW is that he was on IV recently.

imho she was lowering her arms in solidarity with walt having to get an iv in his arms because he has cancer

but to pretend there is NO element of ambiguity here is as dense as saying walt is DEFINITELY lying.

there is no ambiguity for people more familiar with cancer treatment, is the point. anyone who's spent time either on the job treating cancer patients or walking family members or friends through treatment know you can't get cancer treatment by saying "I need the treatment." I'm sure there's Munchausen's people who manage to get chemo but they're as rare as the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. higher likelihood is that the show is presuming more knowledge about how cancer treatment works than is reasonably fair.

It's not that there's no ambiguity, but some of the things people itt have pointed out as inconsistent with what Walt's said about his cancer being back (he doesn't seem as sick as you'd think for a guy on chemo) are actually quite reasonable if you know something about modern second-line chemotherapy regimens.
