walter and jesse die in the penultimate episode, last episode is just a backdoor pilot for Saul's Fair

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)

That was the working title. They settled on Saul in the Family.

he hands out ricin cigarettes to a bunch of people he needs to kill. all light up and inhale, including walter. he then abruptly rises to go to the bathroom and kneels before the toilet, exhaling smoke into the bowl. the ghost of gus fring enters through the shower wall. "walter," he says, placing his spirit hand on his former accomplice's shoulder. "it doesn't work with smoke."

this, but with walt and walt jr

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 19:12 (twelve years ago)

walt jr becoming a meth hustler would be such a great way to underscore the "drugs are bad" message that has been so lacking on this show

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 19:18 (twelve years ago)

the whole series is a story Walt Jr. tells his college buds, trying to convince them his dad was a meth kingpin.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 19:56 (twelve years ago)

Not that hard. All Walt Jr. has to do is record his own tearful confession. "My name is Walter Flynn Junior, I like breakfast and hanging with my friends. For the past year, I have been a meth kingpin genius, manipulating my fool parents into helping me out. By the time you see this, I will be in college, with mad respect from my dorm peers."

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 20:05 (twelve years ago)

But why is there no hacking in this bitch? Or---is there?

dow, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 20:11 (twelve years ago)

Many second and third line chemotherapy regimens for recurrent/progressive disease are less cytotoxic than first line regimens, based on biologics like VEGF inhibitors instead of older agents based on platinum, taxols and anthracyclines. The newer agents tend to produce significantly less GI distress, hair loss, etc, compared to what most people thing of as "chemo".

The IV infusion Walt received was being given in a typical outpatient clinical treatment center. If he's not getting chemo, he'd have to be on IVIG or some other immune modulating drug for an unrelated condition.

There's no way to get chemo by lying to a doctor, you need biopsy proven disease. If he's on chemo, his cancer is back.

So yes, his cancer is back.

Plasmon, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 21:35 (twelve years ago)

there's no "is his cancer back or not" debate going on. all i did was point out that the specific details have so far only come from walt, and that this is different than how they conveyed this kind of information initially. it could mean as little as the writers wanting to avoid sypathetic scenes for walter or a lot, that walter is deceiving people with his sob story to some degree. but to pretend there is NO element of ambiguity here is as dense as saying walt is DEFINITELY lying.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 21:46 (twelve years ago)

Well, he's already trotted out his cancer twice as manipulation - to Hank, to Junior - so there's always the chance Walt didn't tell anyone so he could keep that arrow in his quiver. It worked for Junior for sure, thought obviously not for Hank.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 21:55 (twelve years ago)

exactly. currently the cancer only comes up as weapon against others, not as something that's impeding walt in any obvious way. what this means remains to be seen, and I guess you can place your over/under on it if you please, but that's not what i'm doing.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 21:58 (twelve years ago)

it doesnt only come up as a weapon against others, there was a shot of walt w an iv in his arm, in which case the show would have to be complicit in walt deception, its not just him telling people he has the cancer

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:06 (twelve years ago)

which would be pretty weak and not likely whats going on, they were prob all okay these are the shots that demonstrate that walt has cancer

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:07 (twelve years ago)

maybe he was hungover and bribed a nurse to give him a bag of saline

mh, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

they did just lead us on with walt recording his "confession" and intense discussion before we saw what it really was.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

im p positive gilligan has even said in interviews and stuff, i think in the run up 2 the 1st half of this season & probably again before this 2nd batch of eps, words to the effect of we (the writers) haven't forgot abt the cancer, etc

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

well who's arguing they forgot about the cancer

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

did they forget about dre

mh, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:13 (twelve years ago)

i do have a lot of respect 4 cancerous walt digging that desert money hole by himself, he tuff

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:16 (twelve years ago)

while i'd like to be able to point out details without having to make a case that it's an unquestionable clue to the grand finale, they've increasingly kept us from knowing what the hell walt's doing (The flash-forwards, the "confession" build-up), so him deceiving us as well as everyone else would be a fairly logical extension of their believe that Walt is NOT a sympathetic figure at this point.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:17 (twelve years ago)

their belief, i mean.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:18 (twelve years ago)

they did just lead us on with walt recording his "confession" and intense discussion before we saw what it really was.

this is dramatic license - they showed the beginning of a confession which actually was a grand and sinister ploy.

showing him with an iv in his arm would have to be a deception given how dumb it'd be if they later concocted a story of him fooling doctors etc, i mean, this just isn't going to happen.

yes there is ambiguity about to what extent his cancer is back, and yes he is of course going to use it to his advantage however he can, but there isn't ambiguity about the sole issue of the cancer being back.

the dramatic issue with the cancer is whether that's what's going to kill him or not, another potential demise/end to the show, giving these last few eps more tension.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:19 (twelve years ago)

i totally agree that the IV would need a damn good explanation, but again i'm not debating whether or not "the cancer is back"

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

xp yea that is true abt the deception

i guess the neighbor lady dropping her groceries could be abt if theres a new mexico tribune expose abt walt faking cancer & making $ off it or something & shes not seen the heisenberg scrawled inside his house

keep in mind, like this wld be a horrible explanation tho

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

hell she might think he's dead!

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:22 (twelve years ago)

i have so much faith in gilligan at this stage. they are going to smash this out of the park.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:23 (twelve years ago)

How many episodes are left?

no fomo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

we shd poll like % chance u think theyll fuck it up. i agree, p low imo

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

the way she drops her groceries could suggest everyone thinks he's dead. then it again it could mean he's a wanted criminal on the run. idk innit

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:24 (twelve years ago)

we know he showed up with a NH license plate, we know shit got fubar back home, we know he has access to a identity provider. it's possible he's presumed dead after some hardcore madness, and he's come back because a quiet life in new england is not how walt goes out.

da croupier, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

it was! but other than that, everything we know about the situation comes from the mouth of walter white. it's possible he's telling the truth, and the writers decided there was no need for the kind of "walter gets news" doctor scenes we used to see all the time. but all we really KNOW is that he was on IV recently.

There is a scene with his oncologist where he tells him the big is back but they cut it for time.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

imho she was lowering her arms in solidarity with walt having to get an iv in his arms because he has cancer

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:26 (twelve years ago)

*BIG C* excuse me

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:26 (twelve years ago)

but to pretend there is NO element of ambiguity here is as dense as saying walt is DEFINITELY lying.

there is no ambiguity for people more familiar with cancer treatment, is the point. anyone who's spent time either on the job treating cancer patients or walking family members or friends through treatment know you can't get cancer treatment by saying "I need the treatment." I'm sure there's Munchausen's people who manage to get chemo but they're as rare as the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. higher likelihood is that the show is presuming more knowledge about how cancer treatment works than is reasonably fair.

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:26 (twelve years ago)

the big what it could be any big thing, a mac or a bird

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

the neighbour had a look of cancer about her imo. i paused it and magnified her face.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

i don't mean that you could see she was sick, more that you could see she was thinking about it.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

the neighbor represents cancer this is all flynns dream except... he is a different person than walt jr

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:28 (twelve years ago)

the way she drops her groceries could suggest everyone thinks he's dead. then it again it could mean he's a wanted criminal on the run. idk innit

I definitely got the 'thought he was dead' vibe. not that that mean Heisenberg isnt known by all at that point.

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:28 (twelve years ago)

if we have to go there, i'm fairly familiar with cancer treatment, thank you.
