they were awful.

also, why would you microwave a pot pie?

not some dude poking a Line 6 pedal with his dick (sarahell), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 18:49 (twelve years ago)

because I don't bake at work?

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 18:52 (twelve years ago)

all microwaved pot pies are just mushy and don't brown, it is not specific to Trader Joe's product

Lots of frozen stuff comes packaged in a special sort of foil tray that helps pastry etc crisp up in the microwave

Beurre Meuniere Popcorn - no. This tastes like a weird toilet bowl cleaner. In fact, with the exception of the better-than-Smartfood white cheddar, I have found all of their popcrons p disappointing

Lobster Ravioli - oh hell yes. It's a tad sweet so make sure you salt the water but all you need for sauce is lemon juice + butter and ohhhhhh damn. It's a little on the pricey side ($4 = 9 oz = 9 big ravioli) but my GOD

#REV! (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 00:26 (twelve years ago)

it irritates me how almost every single one of their prepackaged salads has chicken in it

YES. And pretty low quality chicken at that.

Another thumbs up to the cold-pressed coffee. It worked out really well for us, to the extent that we're taking it camping this weekend. Just add water/milk and heat. No bitterness, but not too weak.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 13:43 (twelve years ago)

I was going to try some except that it was like $8 for the bottle and I would just as soon make my own

#REV! (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 13:50 (twelve years ago)

But good to know if I ever need it for like camping or something

Their blueberry muesli tastes like an old lady's underwear drawer likely smells.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

that's almost exactly how the blueberry oatmeal tastes

I had the frozen Chicken Tikka Masala today which was like okay enough I guess but it was only four small pieces of chicken drowning in a pool of sauce!

The Chicken Verde Burritos returned to my TJs two weeks ago.

But then last week they were out again.

The saga continues.

their kettle corn isn't terrible -- maybe too salty? something's slightly off but man I can eat a handful of it, regardless

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 September 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

their frozen naan is better than some I've been served at a restaurant. broiler on low setting works best/quickest.

Highly recommend a piece of naan with it (for sopping up sauce), unless you hate carbs.

one month passes...

There is a Fall Harvest Blend tea with a fox on the box, which I am guessing is the fall answer to Lemur Tea. It's good! Herbal, no caffeine. I got weird and put a little milk in it (no stevia, though, I'm not a total psychopath) and it works nicely.

Also our TJs was selling a three pack of purse-sized tubs of hand cream for $7.99. They look like L'occitane dupes, so I bought them. They aren't as rich as L'occitane's shea butter hand cream, which is the one I would always buy if I were wealthy, but they are great for the price. Recommended.

stevia is NASTY

got a two foot long stalk of brussel sprouts for $2.99

that's about as much as they are in the plastic bag and it's totally worth it just for the crazy looks i got from everyone while holding it walking around the store and then with it sticking out of my bag on the bus ride home:

TJ's is the only place I've ever seen sprouts on the stalk! I didn't even know they grew that way before I started shopping there. So bizarre and enjoyable.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 10:15 (twelve years ago)

I've seen sprouts-on-the-stalk at Fairway too. Can you do anything w/the stalk? Like make uh stock?

screen scraper (m coleman), Thursday, 24 October 2013 10:32 (twelve years ago)

Sword fight.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 24 October 2013 10:43 (twelve years ago)

xxp they probably don't, they probably just adhere them to the stalk to look quirky

Stevie D(eux), Thursday, 24 October 2013 11:00 (twelve years ago)

the stalk is pretty dense and fibrous but I'd imagine it wouldn't hurt to throw it in a stock with other veggies

i'll probably just throw it in the compost
