Solid policy for the identity fixer. You wouldn't want to go though all the trouble of creating a complete new identity for someone only to find out they smoking jazz cigarettes.

agree that Chekhov's Ricin is a weak link in the plot that disconcertingly seems to play an ever larger role. would be kinda neat though if it was never "fired," as it were. at the same time, hopefully there's a non-lame reason for Walt to go back for it.

ryan, Monday, 26 August 2013 20:25 (twelve years ago)

He did leave out an important detail.

pplains, Monday, 26 August 2013 20:26 (twelve years ago)

they said their original idea was to just have walt go to the house and reminisce xp

lag∞n, Monday, 26 August 2013 20:27 (twelve years ago)

the Todd story was kinda funny and meta, the way he was recapping the episode and I was remembering how crazy it was idk I forgot to think about how dumb it was that he was even telling ppl about it, haha

totally follows that Todd would be braggin 'bout the train heist. dude is not exactly a mastermind here.

However bad it would be for anybody to spill the beans, Hank or whomever, not only does the little ol neighbor lady spill a whole grocery bag when he speaks to here, as noted above, also, "HEISENBERG" is scrawled all over the wall, beyond which the skatr bois frolic---once again, we know some of what will happen, so it's getting to be more about how do they get there from here.
Re ricin leaps of logic etc. also remember: on that side of the screen, this whole story is happening in five quarters, not five seasons spread over what seven years or so. Jesse and the others have to grapple with all this shit pretty quickly.

dow, Monday, 26 August 2013 20:59 (twelve years ago)

wish someone would just put together the "what was goin' on in jesse's brain" montage that the show was too good for

da croupier, Monday, 26 August 2013 21:08 (twelve years ago)

though i mean if we get zippy montages of hank organizing his garage why can't we get that

da croupier, Monday, 26 August 2013 21:10 (twelve years ago)

"HEISENBERG" is scrawled all over the wall

conceivable to me that Jesse would do this

i think todd was telling unkie adolph and pal that story so they would gain confidence in him for whatever they're planning in NM. As they are leaving, doesn't head white power guy say something like 'are you sure you can handle this?' and todd is all 'yeah. im good.'

he's telling his uncle and other dude to 1) promote himself and 2) demonstrate how methodical a genius heisenberg is. w/ ricin walt poisoned brock w/ lily of the valley (put it in his food iirc) to simulate symptoms of ricin poisoning, had saul have huell lift it off jesse
(here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do19-dITUxc)
to create vaguely plausible story that gus took it off him and poisoned brock to cause jesse to distrust walt and at the time when jesse wasn't going to be able to protect walt was very nearly at hand (plus walt needed jesse to kill gus w/ his first plan, which gus beat w/ his spidey senses). saul who's regarded jesse as the way mike viewed walt (only dumber) since jesse was hiding out in the arcade if not longer is finally this close to getting rid of this problem and this moron/addict starts getting high. this close to being rid of him he decides not to take a chance that this moron is going to be 'sparking up a doobie' when vacuum man (who is NOT jim beaver correct?) comes, has huell lift it and what are the odds some moron like jesse is going to catch on to what happened.
walt makes videotape for hank to let him know just how it would destroy their families and just what lines of bullshit he'll sell to save himself and scuttle hank's case. it's not enough to actually put hank away and it may not be enough to save walt but it makes it more difficult. taking the whitman book was excusable, putting gps device on walt's car less so but closing the garage door and laying his cards on the table when he didn't have a strong hand was pure ego driven by outrage. maybe the jig was up anyway but you could possibly sell that marie thought walt was having an affair or something. when he was going after gus there's no way hank would've been that stupid or brash. this time it's personal.

balls, Monday, 26 August 2013 21:41 (twelve years ago)

I am forgetful: did we see Hank tell Marie when he found out about Walt? I can't remember it or her reaction.

kinder, Monday, 26 August 2013 21:43 (twelve years ago)

that reminds me even if walt had walked in and leaves of grass was there on the counter hank could easily explain how it ended up there w/ 'o sorry, MY WIFE'S A KLEPTO'.

balls, Monday, 26 August 2013 21:45 (twelve years ago)

yeah Hank was stupid to tip his hand to walt

What I didn't get was why Walt had Leaves of Grass casually lying around in their house in the first place, considering that, A) he knows Hank has seen Gale's handwriting and has noticed the "W.W." thing, and B) Hank visits their house often. Previously they'd shown Walt to be pretty meticulous in getting rid of any discriminating evidence (like the lily of the valley), but now he just leaves the book in their toilet for anyone to find?

Tuomas, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:00 (twelve years ago)

haven't we had that discussion already
he's careless but arrogant enough to think he has everything covered. It's happened tons of times.

kinder, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

anyhow good enoug episode. aryans reminding me of the role the armenians played w/ the final season of the shield and the confession definitely reminding me of vic mackey's confession in the final season of the shield. walt/jesse relationship could definitely go the route of vic/shane also (thank god jesse doesn't have a family i guess). the shield final season's pretty great so i can see why they would use it as a guidepost and i guess w/ an antihero the brutal ending w/ antihero surviving but basically defeated is a clear route to take (sopranos kinda does it if you think tony lives ie if you are wrong). weird that w/ male antihero being the default for this golden age of tv drama etc that we haven't had a show (i think?) to have or at least show the antihero get what's coming to him (mad men kinda has but i think/kinda hope mad men is interested in redeeming its antihero). kinda can't picture the last shot of this show being walt dropping dead though nor can i picture one of the aryans or todd damon getting the last line, and can't picture hank actually causing walt's demise at this point either. for this reason even though 'walt kills jesse' has been the telegraphed last act of evil by walter white i'm gonna just go out on a small limb and predict final shot is jesse on some mode of transportation, leaving albuquerque. this basically -

balls, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

man just realized there are only five episodes of this thing left

balls, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:13 (twelve years ago)

Walt leaving the book around is classic unconscious need to get caught stuff--or at least a need for recognition from Hank et al for all he's accomplished.

ryan, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:43 (twelve years ago)

at least subconsciously, Walt always knew someday Hank would take a long shit in his house and choose whitman over a magazine

da croupier, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:45 (twelve years ago)

I mean, there's just no way Walt is willing to ride off into the sunset anonymously, despite his turn away from meth making. I just don't see that as consistent with his whole m.o. so far. so yeah, you could argue that this final act was kinda the necessary coup de grace of the whole thing for him.

ryan, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:49 (twelve years ago)

is there an earlier episode where we see walt reading Leaves Of Grass on the shitter and leave it back there? I love the idea of it being just a random whodathunkit micro slip-up rather than a sign of Walt needing to crow.

da croupier, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:51 (twelve years ago)

it was on the nightstand before. not sure how it got behind the toilet.

ryan, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:52 (twelve years ago)

tho epiphanies while having dumps is one of the weirder traditions of western culture, cf Martin Luther for one I believe.

ryan, Monday, 26 August 2013 22:53 (twelve years ago)

anterior superior temporal gyrus activation, 30 rock did an episode on it

balls, Monday, 26 August 2013 23:08 (twelve years ago)

yeah rearrogance Hank confided to Walt that he'd concluded Gale was Heisenberg RIP, so that part of the meth case was closed, anyway. But Hank visibly couldn't stand this, so he's like, "Ah I bet there was someone else; Gale couldn't have done all *this*", and Hank's like, "oh yeah--?(!)", and Walt's the egghead chemist and Hank's showed him Gale's notes, so time for more adventures after all!

dow, Monday, 26 August 2013 23:58 (twelve years ago)

Great how he wants Hank to be the ride-along equiv. of the brainiac and frequently lab-bound team members on shows like NCIS.

dow, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

I wonder what Skyler was thinking while Walt was taping it though -- it had to be realization of even newer lower depths of his badness

Yeah, this was crazy. How can you ever live with, work with, or trust someone again when you've seen them film something like that. Once you've seen how easy it is for them, how good they are at lying about being concerned about your (and your children's) death?

Wasn't it suggested that it might have even been Scalar's idea? Walt says something like "you sure about this?" and she's like, it's the only way.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 00:02 (twelve years ago)

Do they think it'll somehow hold up over time? Their threat to Hank? That they can just go on living their car wash life? And like, not have Hank and Marie over for BBQs any more?? What exactly do they imagine is going to happen? The window of their lives is closing and is almost shut and they need to grab their shit and dive for the gap like NOW.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 00:04 (twelve years ago)

But in Walt's convo w/Flynn he's like hey - be positive! We just, you know, keep on going! Like we always have! Buck up kiddo!

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)

>>but closing the garage door and laying his cards on the table when he didn't have a strong hand was pure ego driven by outrage

Currently watching from the start in order to hook my wife on the meth that is this show. And boy did I think of this current scene when Walt bluffs big on the Texas Hold Em hand in season one. My how the worm has turned.

BlackIronPrison, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 00:12 (twelve years ago)

Wasn't it suggested that it might have even been Scalar's idea? Walt says something like "you sure about this?" and she's like, it's the only way.

Flip this -- she asked are you sure and he said it's the only way. I remember that specifically because I would include him saying that in any BB drinking game.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 00:18 (twelve years ago)

yeah & then skyler kinda sat or stood around in shock for the rest of the episode.

y'all noticed uncle adolph & crew were towing THE big tank of methylamine across state lines right? why would todd telling them how the heist went down be any kind of indiscretion?

walt has been batting above his weight for so long & getting away with it i think it's cool that he's clearly going to be brought down, in some way, by a bunch of aryan nation dudes he treated like car wash peons & who are clearly jumping up out of their own league
