Loving this season so far, although I agree that Jesse's penny-dropping moment was both rushed and contrived. Did Jesse think he'd had the ricin cigarette with him all that time? It's been hidden in Walt's house for ages.
walt kept the real ricin and planted some house salt in a cigarette in jesse's roomba. jesse found it and walt immediately flushed it.

No I think it was just supposed to be Jesse realizes he got pickpocketed --> realizes Huell did it --> sees the cig pack like the one the ricin used to be hidden in way back when --> realizes that Huell pickpocketed him THAT time too

I actually thought someone mentioned the stolen phone thing on this thread, been skimming a bit. The whole scene didn't make much sense but the poison storyline had been kind of a mess since they originally introduced it.

I cant think of a time when jesse has been actively homicidal except when it involved kids getting fucked up. I always dismissed Jesse killing walt in the end just because jesse cant deal with killing but this revelation makes it at least possible?

the overelaborate machinations in the last few eps of s4 are this show's nadir, worse than the plane crash as far as making no goddamn sense whatsoever, everyone forgets this though because half-face was pretty sweet

if something happens to walt's kids, might drive jesse over the edge--?

the only thing the show fudges w/the ricin is, as pplains noted, how walt got the kid to eat the lily of the valley. otherwise its no more ridiculous than walt bombing a nursing home and not being caught on camera/no one noticing him scurrying away from the scene. and its not that big a leap for jesse because hes already suspicious of walt and already suspected that he did this - the groundwork's been laid

cant really judge an ep as a mini-movie, self-contained, no matter how stupid a plot point may seem for a while, just wait for the total effect.

walt planted the bomb -- with hector's connivance -- way before it went off. hector was the one who triggered it. i don't see how that's a loose end

The thing was that Walt was trying to gaslight Jesse and make him think that he wasn't in control. It wasn't until the end of the whole scheme that he really believed that he'd fucked up, and now he has reason to believe he didn't lose the ricin and that he was fucked with -- imo it was really hard to get Jesse to believe the whole thing to begin with.

I suppose it maybe wasn't a great idea predicating a crucial plot point on the viewers all being wastemen like me who had enough free time to have re-watch everything in the past couple of months and so kinda remember that whole tangled end to season 4.

Todd chatting about his action movie train scene like an excited kid while omitting one crucial detail was creepy as fuck.

The status quo between Walt and Jesse has switched between "you're manipulating me" to "oh man, you saved my ass, I am sorry I thought that" so many times that Jesse figuring out that Walt has been mostly faking the saves through manipulation has been a long time coming. I think he's known it's the case, but wasn't ready to admit it until Mike "disappeared."

Yeah, this was crazy. How can you ever live with, work with, or trust someone again when you've seen them film something like that. Once you've seen how easy it is for them, how good they are at lying about being concerned about your (and your children's) death?

Walt's resolve and scope for his whole enterprise got a lot larger when he was confronted with his ex-business partner & wife -- he felt like he should have had the business and lifestyle they had, and has had that chip on his shoulder motivating part of his empire-building. Who's to say that Skyler doesn't have her own chip on her shoulder about Marie?

btw I sure would, because at the beginning of the series Skyler is supposed to be all domestic and Marie obviously thinks herself more fashionable/worldly

Pretty sure Skyler was already well aware of Walt's capacity for lying, but in any case she's in way too deep to do anything else at this point. She's one of the few characters that Walt has no real reason to turn on at this stage.
